Michael Brown robbed a gas station for cigars prior to the incident. How does that work out in a libertarian paradise?
He apparently actually didn't.

If he did it wouldn't change anything thou.

Also something someone did here today made me laugh for the first time in a long time on NESing.

He actually was reported as robbing the place at 11:51am, minutes before his encounter with the officer who shot him (unrelated to the robbery). The friend who was with him, Johnson, did not inform anyone they had been in the store and committed the robbery, even though he was on the tape too. The store owner called the police and then later backed it up with the FBI. Nice try. He robbed the store.

Not very interested in what the autopsy shows. That investigation was done by the same douche bags that shot the kid. I mean it makes sense that the kid would charge an armed cop who's pointing a gun at him with nothing but his bare hands, doesn't it? Not sure why you're so hostile, though. I'm advocating LESS violence (Violence only in self defense), and legitimately comparing crimes committed by government agents to those committed by regular people (And i'm not saying either's justified, may I remind you. I have consistently said violence against peaceful people is WRONG. REGARDLESS of whether or not the crime was committed by a state agent), and you're comparing me to Timothy McVeigh. Logic brought you there, I'm sure.

The autopsy was done by a third party. But okay, ignore the facts to make your anti-government stance seem better.

You've repeatedly said violence against the government tyrants, all of them, is acceptable. You just said Michael Brown was justified in potentially charging a police officer because he was a cop. Timothy McVeigh did the same thing. He came out of the military and did a bunch of crap in Waco, speaking out against the "tyrants." And then he blew up a bunch of kids for no reason other than his own anti-government ideology. I'm terrified you'll do the same thing, potentially to someone I know. I don't like it. I don't want to feel unsafe in my own country just because you hate it and want out.

What does blowing up kids have to do with defending yourself against government agents for infringing on your rights? Timothy McVeigh's point of view is pretty far different than mine, though we have the same enemy. I would never use methods that would kill children.

All this fear about lone idiots, and you play ignorant to the fact that governments are killing children every single day in the world? Is the US government any different? Of course not.

But government agents can't be terrorists, because they're the government! They live by different rules than we little folk! Ask these guys: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_brutality

I actually do take offense to racism against white people. I'd prefer you to take that trash elsewhere.

Is it because of the hundreds of years of entrenched racial abuse whites have had to suffer at the hands of other races, or is it because of an extremely raw and swollen sense of entitlement?

Moderator Action: Thread closed for 24 hours or so to let things cool down. I ask for things not to get personal, and you get personal. I ask to keep to NESing or behave, and you don't behave. I hate to take the sledgehammer to the thread and make it so no one can post, but I frankly don't have time to babysit you guys today.

Moderator Action: Thread re-opened. Please cease the personal attacks and insults. Stick to the issues in your discussions.

I don't have a lot of patience for posters that don't heed this advice. I will enforce the above guidelines up to and including instant bans for posters and closing the thread again if things get out of hand.

Show me that you are the mature community that doesn't need moderation that you claim to be.

To clarify, what is the difference between a personal attack and an attack on an opinion?

Is it legitimate to call out extreme opinions or statements as racist, sexist, ignorant or offensive?

It is OK to call out opinions or statements, but saying "you are racist" or otherwise making it personal is across the line.

Noted.

In the case that someone repeatedly expresses offensive opinions or statements, despite being called out on it, how should we as the community resolve it?

Report it and let me and the other site staff deal with it.

Is it just me, or did the forum get a subtle change of font within the past couple of days?

(might just be Chrome being weird)

Not that I've noticed. I mostly use IE, so it could a Chrome. Or you're slipping. Either one.

I use Chrome and I've noticed no change.

I AM SO GLAD THAT THIS WASN'T JUST ME. I thought I was slowly going insane.

I have been literally freaking out about it.

I don't know about you all, but it seems sort of more zoomed out to me.

Edit: basically what Talonschild said.
