While We Wait: Writer's Block & Other Lame Excuses

Well it's not a matter of being a dick, it's a matter of not getting dicked around!

Otherwise you can just wait till EA decides to give you the game you purchased (if at all).

Crusader Kings 2 is the most fun I have had in a game in a long time.

Though it did get awkward when my little brother succeeded in his plot to assassinate me before I had a male heir, resulting in me playing the person who had just murdered me. I didn't know how to feel about that. :p

I'm currently playing the Dukes of Lombardy, and I've spent the last 15 years subduing little counties and engaging in epic struggles against the Grand Duchy of Baden-Carinthia for the fate of Northern Italy. The blood of countless young Italians stained the snow at Grigioni, but we managed to seize control of Mantua after raising two mercenary armies.

I somehow got a marriage alliance with the daughter of the Holy Roman Emperor, but neither of us have produced male heirs yet, so now we're in a high stakes waiting game. If he dies first before having a boy, I inherit the Duchy of Franconia through my wife and have a decent shot at controlling the Empire itself. But if I die before having a male heir, the Salians inherit the Duchy of Lombardy and I lose.

Hopefully I can change the succession laws to allow a female heir in the absence of males, just in case, but I haven't been reigning long enough yet.

Just roleplay each character as a separate entity and keep the 'you' out of it (because hopefully YOU are not a 70 year old lustful, hedonist, cruel, gluttonous, impaler who just impregnated his 16 year old wife alongside his 16 year old granddaughter during what can only be described as the most depraved threesome in medieval history).

Crusader Kings 2.

Excited about this endorsement. Very much enjoyed the original, glad to hear the sequel is just as (more?) wicked and fun as the first. Its on Steam then? I need to look into this...

I've had some much fun with this, started as an Irish Duke, became king, and had nearly every second son attempt to murder the first. I always have at least one blood relative in prison at anyone time.

I have no real interest in buying Civ 5. Strangely I went through a stage last year of playing simple&fun civ 2 games. I hardly ever play civ 3 or civ 4 now. I want to get back into playing 4 though, as it was looking promising with all the mods.

I had one epic civ4 game with the revolutions mod + improved AI, back in 2010 I think, that I was always going to make into an AAR - Koreans on a custom map I had made, surviving various wars with china and japan, and being a minnow until making a beeline for seafaring techs and becoming a colonial power - wars with colonial rivals and isolated primitive civs, my epic WW1-style defence against Khmer hordes that almost took my capitol, the native american's successful war of liberation against my evil colonialism, and then my emergance as major world power backed by epic mining and sushi corporations. And then the final modern-age showdown with the Romans, a worldwide battle between our various allies/protectorates and my push for the number one spot, while doing my peacekeeper thing and re-arranging territories rather than conquering outright (the revolutions dynamic actually making this practical).

Thing is its one of those games I don't think I can ever match again, so it kinda puts me off playing... I've had a few false starts since then. I should probably make an effort, though!

The only way I can effectively rule my Empire of Britannia is by having at least 2 to 3 dukes in prison for the vast majority of their life.

EDIT: I actually have an aar thread going on the pdox forums. It's a collection of interesting anecdotes from my various games. Currently only the (mis)deeds of El Cid are up as I am waiting for the next official path/edition of CKPlus to come out.

Great read :) I am now even more interested in CK2.

Bought CK2, and promptly played 11 hours of it in a row. Started out as the Count of Leinster, currently King of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Norway (thanks to marrying a Norwegian princess and her brothers all dieing in tragic stabbing accidents). Unfortunately, I managed to inherit the throne of Norway right as they were losing badly to the Golden Horde, and so I'm going to have to deal with them and pretender revolts all across my empire.

Nonetheless, best game I've played in a really long time.

This is why more people should support paradox and buy CK2.

As The Duke of Moray (in Scotland), my family eventually became the Emperor of the Byzantines, not counting our minor titles :p

SPEAKING OF WHICH you guys, someone should host a game similar to All the King's Men, or the Men who would be King.

Yeah. I have also seen a few other Nes' like that. In fact I was drafting one in class yesterday, though players are wizards instead of noblemen, and family lines are less important than master-student relationships.

Also. I reinstalled CiV. I'm not sure why. There aren't even many great mods out for it. I think my brain was taken over briefly or something.

The thing is that there are ok mods for it, not very creative, but there is one group of people who have access to the tools to mod Civ V properly.

They sell those addons on steam. The prices are outrageous.

Now, they could give away the tools that people need to make proper mods... but then how do they convince people to buy their crappy mods on steam?

Yeah. I mean, I do not mind the DLC. I wish that they were more substantial than scenario packs/leaders, because, really? It is not as if no one ever bought BTS or Warlords because they released the Civ4 SDK. I cannot fathom playing vanilla Civ4 even with mods!

Well, I'm still hating Origin: My copy of ME3 no longer does the date check... However, when I try to play ME3, the game refuses to start, and shuts down origin instead. Any advice?
