Windows 8

I don't think switching from 7 to 8 is that attractive, is it? Windows 7 seems to still be working fine and I think 8 is more interesting for people buying new PCs (unless you care *a lot* about the OS you use to open your browser in :)).
Yeah, I really don't have any complaints with Windows 7 except the start-up time. I'm very satisfied with it.

I actually expect a lot of upgraders will actually be from XP, since XP still has a big marketshare, and support ends in a year and a half.

The gap between XP and Win 8 are even bigger than that gap between win7 and win 8, so that's even more interesting than what I was saying. "Mac vs Win 8", though, is a pointless comparison.

You're just not looking very hard then. I have lots of complaints about every OS I use.

Mountain Lion and Win8 being the best of the bunch.

Win8 complaints, off the top of my head: I want quicksilver and automator for Windows.

Mac OS complaints off the top of my head: Window shadows are butt-ugly, mouse acceleration curve is bad and difficult to configure.

I certainly don't deny it. I'm not very picky about it.

Although Mac OS can burn in hell.

How much does Microsoft pay you to be their cheerleader?

I would type a longer response, but you can only type so much on an iPhone keyboard.

I would type a longer response, but you can only type so much on a windows 8 nokia cell phone keyboard.

Huh? I think Apple's computers suck ass. I use an iPhone, I prefer PS3 over Xbox 360... I'm not a Microsoft cheerleader simply because I like Windows 7.

So you admit that people that like Apple's computers but do not like some of their other products are not necessarily fanboys?

What the hell are you talking about?

Sorry. Maybe I've gotten you mixed up with some other people on this site. I've seen plenty of people here say mac user always= apple fanboy, and on that basis, you might as well say windows user= Microsoft fanboy.

Microsoft dominates the computer market, and Apple dominates the music/tablet market. So it's silly to say that someone who is satisfied with their PC is a Microsoft fanboy, since PCs are waaaay more widespread than Macs. In the same way, it's silly to say that someone who has an iPod is an Apple fanboy, since iPods are waaaay more widespread than Zunes.

But if someone buys into the company's less popular product, there's a much higher chance they're a "fanboy" (how many people do you know that love Macs and hate iPhones? How many people with Zunes do you know that swear by Macintosh?).

I am one. I use an iMac but I am not going to buy an iPhone. My next computer will probably be a PC just because I think win 8 is awesome, but I don't think I'm an apple fanboy just for my computer purchase.

Well Zunes are discontinued and were only on the market for a very brief period of time.

The MS music ecosystem with Xbox music is way, way ahead of what Apple has.

Also the Apple tablet dominance is rapidly evaporating.

 The "Zack is a Microsoft fanboy" argument should've ended right here.

It will be interesting to see what the eventual XP upgrade cycle looks like. I see it mainly divided into 3 groups:

- Home users. This group does seem like one likely to upgrade from XP to Win8, either when buying a new computer, or getting the $40 upgrade deal. On the other hand, most of the early adopters will likely be those already running 7.
- Business users. I feel like a lot of this group is likely going to go from XP to 7, even though 7 is no longer the latest.
- The large number of pirated XP users from countries with less copyright enforcement (China/Russia/etc.). Particularly the ones still using IE6. I don't know what this group will do, but it's probably the one least targeted by OS makers for obvious reasons.

Still waiting patiently for Windows 9 :crazyeye:

Why anyone with a mouse would downgrade to Win 8 is beyond me.

Also, how is it that nobody as MS could come up with a better name then "charms" sheesh!

Are there still special "business" editions of Windows? (There always was this Home/Professional split, right? Though I'm not sure what it did.)
