World Wide Wonder

I think let Izzy vassal to someone else, take her mainland cities.

How will gifting someone else the UN break a rule?

IIRC, and I do, the UN is a world wonder, and all world wonders are to be built in the Capital. Your rule remember.

I do know we missed a couple of WWs though, and if we're busy building R&R/ET/etc.. and happen to miss the UN then that wouldn't be breaking the rule.(kind of a loophole there)

But that's not gifting, that's just being lazy. And who's to say that Hammy won't build it, unless we give the tech to someone way before everybody else?

Game is played save is attached. I've Churchy down to 1 city (Dover), he's capped to Izzy.
Stack is outside Barca and Cathy is now friendly due to shared war bonus (I bribed her in).
Cities have been renamed (all but one actual Roman names).

I'll write up a proper report later tonight. I've a 4 page one on paper.

I suggest going to 10 turns, getting heavy atm per turn.

If ye want to look at some nice screenshots they're the first 16 here.

:goodjob: Looking good so far, I think getting monasteries in newly captured cities :whipped: into courts/granaries would be needed for the +2:culture:/+2:hammers: bonus. Cathy likes spawning colonies! Love the Relations screen!

No more trebs in Rome, just a few more units for Izzy or Barb Island then build :gold:
Let's get those universities up quick so Ox can get built!

Unis are going up. I focused on banks aminly because Merc really hurts financially in war. I'll put up the report tomorrow had a few too many to drink.

Ahh now I know where you're priorities are!

Nooooooooo! My secret is out. Well frankly I didn't have much only a rosé beer (guest beer too sweet), a Chimay white and a La Trappe blond. As I said not too much.

Major insert turnset edit

First things first I went through the cities half way through the TS and renamed the extant english ones:

Nottingham, Condate (St Albans?)
Newcastle, Pons Aelius

Never got this many free workers outside a city before.

In the Interturn Izzy declares, as she's stupid enough to take Churchy as a vassal:stupid:, a perfect excuse for us though. However we lose a worker by Neapolis due to an Axe, spear pair being in Hammy's land.

Turn285
Londinium Rifle>Bud Temp.
Upgrade Neap warr to Mace
Get Cathy to declare for:

Turn 290
Rome Cav>Treb.
Save is on last page.

Ok, looking at what is going on here are my thoughts:

Militarily we are doing quite well, though some more siege and spies would be nice. I’ll foccuss on the spies because our military units are much better than Izzies (despite the Preats marching next to Rifles and Cavalry ) so they won’t benefit as much from collateral.

Tech wise I’m planning on slamming down to 0% research as soon as Democracy is done, I think it is time to beeline MM (+Bio) and see no point in rushing forwards while Oxford and other universities are not up and we have nothing to gain (and monestaries and the Glib to loose) by rushing to SM.
The only side path I might consider is either Medicine or Refrigeration to get either Sid’s Sushi or Cereal Mills (depending on which looks more cost effective at the time) if we pop a GM. In fact I think we should consider getting a bunch of Merchants to try and push out a GM because more food will be crucial in helping us win the UN.

Other than that it is steady as she goes, courthouses in cities with >10 gpt in maintenance, hindu temples in cities that can afford them, and forges/research mulipliers/wealth/units depending on what the city is able to do. Oh, and I’ll try to avoid slapping down 60+ turns of whip anger as well ;)

I only turned on research to get Democracy, slam it off afterwards of course.

I think Med is probably better for our purposes, we have far more sushi resources than cereals. Other than that I cannot see anything I'd do differently (I was mainly building during the war).

Well I was looking at the corporation screen and right now Sid's would give us 6:food: per city while CM would give us 5:food: for about 3/4 the maintenance cost. Also, looking at Izzies land there are more grains than seafood to be taken, so it might swing the other way. If I remember right, CM gives more :food:/resource than Sids, but Sid's usually ends up giving more food because there are more seafood resources on most maps.

Anyways, that is a ways away yet, though I think I will consider getting some merchants in Rome to boost our chance of getting one (fire the spy and engineer at least)

I'm thinking of playing tomorrow evening (GMT-8).

:agree: Getting more spies than trebs to knock down defenses, our cavs/rifles will eat up Izzy's units. Also try running merchants in Rome (or next city to produce a GP) and hopefully we'll pop a GM, wait until we have secured Izzy's land to see which Corp is best.

Game is smooth sailing from here!

Hey folks, unfortunately some things came up unexpectedly and in this time of school and theses sleep must take take a precedent over civ, but have no fear, the update will not be denied!

Hey folks, unfortunately some things came up unexpectedly and in this time of school and theses sleep must take take a precedent over civ, but have no fear, the update will not be denied!

Sleep is for the weak, did Caesar sleep when conquering the Gauls, did Nero sleep when trying to stop Rome burning?

Only joking, though if you were Irish I'd advise you not to bother with studies as the economy is so far in the toilet nothing will help you.

Of course not! He played the violin! And the Gauls weren't "civilized" yet and so weren't willing to wait for their turn like decent folk, forcing him to boost his Actions Per Day though caffeine overdoses.

So here is the set:

Summary:
  • Mostly moved slowly towards finishing Izzy, limited by lack of siege/spies. Cities mostly built infrastructure relating to their specialization.
  • I've set some cities to building wealth as I expect adding in multiplier buildings will be less helpful there when all we want to do is rush to MM.
  • I also put down a bunch of signs in English land to suggest improvements. They are the keyboard shortcuts, so K means workshop, I means farm etc. W is for windmill which is actually shift+W for some obscure reason.
  • Techs obtained were Demo which was later traded for 1/2SM+Corp+gold.
  • I've started Physics, still at 0%, but since I expect someone to beat us to it. If that happens we should go for Bio(population boost) and trade up.
  • Our GP was sadly a spy, but we are getting another in 25 turns with 35% chance of a Merchant.

Inherited Turn 290
Swap a Spy in before the temple at Condate, micro for max hammers
Swap Pons Aelius to a theater (to whip) instead of culture. It has far more food than hammers.
Queue a Forge before the Courthouse in Evertonium.
Put a Granary and Forge in before the Courthouse in Arpinum.

Everything else looks good, so we're off to the races!

Turn 291
Williem Van Orange comes for ob, I accept,he isn't even below cautious with anyone an we'll be wanting every little diplo boost we can get.
Spoiler :
WWW-WvO-OB-291.jpg

We get a nice event to boost our teching towards Corporation, which we'll want if we go for a corp. I pay up the extra cash and we get away with the extra boost.
Caputure Barcelona and keep it.
Spoiler :
WWW-Barcelona-291.jpg

Capture Dover, while normally I'd torch it since it is in such a crappy place, I decide to keep it to help our diplo victory along.
Spoiler :
WWW-Dover-291.jpg

Whip Courthouse in Verulamium for 50:hammers:, will overflow into forge.

Remember to higher 4 merchants in Rome.

Turn 292
Democracy is in, start SM at 0%, due in 12. Start the SoL in Rome due in 17.
Whip Theater in Pons Aelius, queue granary.
Whip Granary in Harappan, queue hindu temple

Turn 293
Hammy comes a begging. I say no. I'm pretty sure he will be our challenger, and he is quite friendly.
Apparently Crabcakes are all the rage in Rome.
Spoiler :
WWW-Crabcakes-293.jpg

Turn 294
Looks like Cathy is going to get Toledo.

Turn 295
Just moving in on Madrid

Turn 296
Capture Madrid, use a spy with no discounts, we've got heaps of eps, sadly I loose the treb at 60% odds to soften up the LBs, but that lets me take the city with the Preats.
It is getting 41:gold:/turn from the shrine, it needs gold buildings asap.

Turn 297
Cathy still doesn't have Toledo  I think she is waiting for her one treb to get the defenses down to 0%.

Turn 298
Williem comes demanding Rifling. Pretty much everyone else has it, and it will help our diplo with him, so I give in.
Spoiler :
WWW-WvO-demand-298.jpg

Catherine demands Democracy. A harder choice since I've been hoping that we can trade that around her and her minions for Corp and SM. I end up giving in to that as well, we are very close with Hammy in the Diplo race with her.
Spoiler :
WWW-Catherine-demand-298.jpg

With Cathy getting a hold of Demo I pop a trade with Lincoln to get SM and Corp and all his gold. This is actually a good deal for him since we have so many beakers in SM.
I look around for oil, not that we need it for our current plans, and it turns out that we only have one!!

Barcelona comes out of revolt and is in starvation, so I whip in a library.

Turn 299
We get a Great spy born, just about the worst option. Settle him.
Also swap Eps focus to Hammy since I expect we will need to force him into difference civics/religions at voting time.

Turn 300
Hammy gets Communism, Physics is probably next on his list, when we see his next research next turn we should probably go for Bio and trade up if we can't beat him to it?
End set here. Actually the Cathy group is probably doing that, so maybe we should consider swapping now.
Hopefully we are getting the SoL in 10, but if not then we'll be getting lots of gold. It is hard to say.

Notes for the next player
Only two more cities of Izzy on the mainland, after that I think we are getting peace but not Capitulation.
Madrid will be a major boost to our econ with a 41gpt shrine. Therefore I've queued a bank, and I think Wallstreet/grocers/Forums should be next. Maybe we should surround it in farms (this will help us whip them out too) and get as many merchants as possible to guarantee one eventually.
We should probably keep 2-3 cities pumping rifles and Cav for defense. England had a few cities with settled GGs, but I cant remember which.

Windmills is Shift+W because the wait command is W (pity they removed it from the main set, I liked that in Civ III)

Edit: On peace with Izzy I think we should only take the turn Cathy does. It'll help our diplo with her, longer we're in war together the better.
I agree on Madrid a 41gpt shrine, I wonder is there any way we can missionary that up a bit, or is it too much bother.

Huh, I didn't know that. I've always either used space or fortify.

Good point about diplo bonus, we should stay in the war until Izzy caps to someone (hopefully Hammy!)
