Would you consider 180 cm to be short for a man?

In addition to Schlaufuchs: My orthopedist told me, that the spinal disks get compressed during the day so the total height decreases.
Yes, that's why I go from a few mm above 180 to 179 every day, a few mm below 179 if I've done a lot of physical activity.

exceedingly strange question..?

as a dane where 180 is average i still understand it as quite tall, because it is. i get the whole 6 feet meme and all, which is 182 i think? but the whole meme and those that want such heights do so because they like specifically tall guys.

considering it short... i have no clue who would think that. maybe something shows up in the poll
It's short by celebrity standards, and probably short by Balkan standards. I think the average male celebrity is in the 190 cm range.

I've called myself 5'8" (173 cm) forever, but age/posture/HRT has me barely scraping 5'7" (170cm) lately. Yay!

And if any of you masc types really want to be taller, there's surgery for that. 3" (8cm) or even double that, inserted into your legs: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-55146906

My legs are long enough as it is. And I'm not even tall 😂

I've got a longer torso and stubbier legs.

And more generally, I'm curious what folks' ideal heights are, and whether they're different for fem and masc types.

I would rather be taller. I am shorter than most women, which I think does not help with dating. 180cm is tall from my point of view (down here).

In checking, I found this map:

I'm 182 cm tall, so I'm taller than the average British male. Both of my parents are of average height. My sisters vary in height but I'm taller than all of them while my younger brother is quite a bit taller than I am (and bigger in every way). I'm taller than my friends. There are times where I do feel like I'm tall, but not always.

I'm happy where I am. I'm the shortest guy out of my brother, dad and myself, but I don't really put any special emphasis on it. I'm comfortably average, at just under 5' 11" / just over 5' 10".

Would I complain if I got taller? Probably not, so long as it wasn't too much (much over 6ft and architecture and vehicles . . . stop being as comfortable). Not sure how I'd feel getting noticeably shorter? Haven't really given it much thought. Once I was over the kneejerk reaction to whatever genie made this happen, I'd probably just crack on with things. Society attaches a lot of value to height (at least in men) and projects weird things onto it (like relationship strength, etc).

Similar to feet, now I'm thinking about it. My feet really can't get much bigger before it'd make getting new trainers a pain (once had a friend with size 14 feet - at the time there were basically none in the shops).

I really don't get wanting to be tall. If you are tall, things are smaller compared to you. It's asking for less comfort.
That's true. Everything is designed in Asia and too small. Plus you hit your head all the time.

And girls choose you just cause your tall and then discard you when they realize how weird you are.

@Samson So the shortest are in Laos?
It must be very comfortable there - well, in areas with any large buildings :D

And if this is your first time posting in the Height club, you HAVE to reveal your height.

I'm about 175cm and I feel pretty average. That said, there's a big range around here. In any crowd, there's often men who are shorter than I am and women who are taller. (One day a few years ago, I was on the subway and 10-12 college girls got on. The shortest of them was about an inch taller than I am. Two of them had to be 192-193cm. They were the volleyball team for one of the local universities.)
