Random question based on this--do posts in the book threads get ignored? Technically, it's a serial thread, but there's a lot more going on there than in the "what music are you listening to"-type threads where all the posts are one-liners or links to you-tube.

First thing I'd do is add some new rules to CFC OT. They'd look something like this:
1. No bringing up abortion in a thread not explicitly about abortion. Punishable by ban.
2. No bringing up Nazis in a thread not explicitly about Nazis. Punishable by ban.
3. Terms such as communism, socialism, fascism, etc. will be used PROPERLY as per their generally accepted meaning among political scientists. Statements such as "the US is communist cause obamacare" or "the repubs are fascist cause pro-life" will be deleted. Punishable by 2-point infraction.
4. Any claim must be backed up by a reliable and trusted source, preferably a well-known newspaper. Punishable by warning and deleting of post.
Then, after finding that I have violated all of these rules, I will ban myself. Twice. And give me a 2-point infraction.

Besides a major purge? Probably not that much. People love their stuff. I would see to a more lenient treatment of people in the Off Topic forums when it comes to teh rules.

I often find myself wanting such a feature, but in the end I fear it would too much encourage (more or less) witty one-liners or short posts with strong opinions over more reasoned responses and on the long run decrease average post quality. Kind of like TV quality declines based on what people like (quick entertainment over substantivity).

What I would do: I would make it so the autocensor would be turned on unless you enter a credit card number. Then every time you swear you get charged a penny. It would be billed once a month and it would completely cover the server costs and I would have extra money!
Also I would remove all posts criticizing a certain musician.

It sounds like you are trying to abort that issue.
My changes would be minor in comparison, basically allow swearing to occur and be a bit more relaxed one some rules. Not much of a change, really. If I felt that the site needed wholesale changes, then I would not be here and just go to another site.
I don't care about the other garbage you'd do, but this is objectively stupid. There are plenty of comparisons to Hitlerite Germany that are valid. And why Nazis, specifically, anyway? Uninformed people make bad historical comparisons all the time, of which Nazi Germany is only a very small sample.

Because Nazis are by far the most common comparison when someone wants to cast doubt on an idea or statement? While there are many valid comparisons to 1940's Germany, I believe that the benefit of no Godwinning outweighs the cost.
That'd make more sense if it were, in fact, true.

I tend to agree, but that mostly cause the actual comparisons to the Nazis that have value are concerning 1930s, not 1940s, Germany.
