You know what's humbling?

You want to know what's really humbling - getting the opposition (Cricket) side all-out for 142 and having your own side lose 6 wickets for 24 in reply with the Skipper (me) batting 10 overs and getting out in the last over before stumps to a dumb shot after giving the lads a pep talk about responsible batting   [/dejected mode]

It's humbling to realize that that entire statement was in English, and the best I could tell you is that something bad happened while AndyCapp was playing Cricket (I think)

Thinking that our planet and solar system may be part of some far-flung interstellar empire, but since we are such a primitive race within that empire no one bothers with us (or maybe access to us is restricted by some "prime directive" or something). There may be huge, grand wars, or a huge society of great enlightenment, going on all around us....

Or, if there is a higher intellegence that we refer to as "God" (and I think there is), THAT is humbling too. Anything that can decide our fate, beyond our control or even knowledge or understanding....

What I find humbling though is preteen little kids who know far more about computers than I ever will....

Even more humbling: Thinking you could be a subroutine in some future preteen kid's computer simulation of the early 21st century. God is 11 years old. Very humbling indeed.

So the question is, is the kid playing a 'serious' game, trying for a high score, or is he just screwing around and using the cheat codes to spawn riots, violence, and natural disasters? How many times has he typed in "Mideast 1004" and recieved the reply, "Middle East unrest +1"?

Or that your real body is stored in a small chamber in a vast array of similar chambers, where it is being used as one of many electric batteries powering an alien civilization that has taken over, and your consciousness is part of a vast computer program played out for the entertainment, or for whatever reasons, of these alien beings....

Oh, wait, they made a movie about this already.... ;)

(And if it were true, would such a movie be allowed to be made?)

Yes it was allowed, just because its fun to toy with you lesser creatures.

Try this on for size: scientists tell us that everything is made up of matter and energy, and that these are the two components to our universe, hence E=MC^2. What if there is actually no matter, and everything is only energy. We in fact are just energy beings mixed around in some medium, and have created this idea of "matter" just as a way to perceive our surroundings. Nothing that you see or feel is real, it's just your essence's interpretation of it's surroundings.

Oh, and by the way, you are all just figments of my imagination, and I am all that exists. Prove me wrong.
