Using Daz's Michael 3 for Unit Creation

adding the pose to the library in the normal way will only save the manner in which the body parts are articulated - not their size. I edited the pz2 file in a text editor to do my thing.

I understand better now. How did you edit it, though? I've done something similar for Apollo Maximus, so it would be handy to be able to turn it into a reusable pose too.
 
I really would advise against using a skin texture for a unit - the detail would be lost at that size, and it would probably look a mess.
 
Skin textures are very useful for clothes. For example, if you want your unit to wear a shirt with the sleeves rolled up, or a vest, or something like that, it's easiest to paint it onto the skin. MoscaTNT made most of his military uniforms by simply painting them direct onto the skins. The problem with this method is that you really do need old-fashioned artistic skill to do it well.
