2019 Christmas Thread

How many of you still have your decorations and trees up?

Mine came down Jan 1. I received a final late gift in the mail yesterday. It was toys for my doggo and a mug that broke in shipping. I was beginning to think it had been lost by the postal service.

We took advantage of the good weather yesterday and did it. We usually would wait for another week. But we wanted to train the Rumba to map the house and we wanted all the christmas stuff out of the way. Sad it ends so soon.

I never put one up, so taking it down took no time at all. :p

Maddy's personalized ornament stays up, though, at least until I can find a nice container to keep it in (it didn't come in a gift box).

Most of our interior decorations came down over the weekend.

The terrace light-chain was temporarily attached to a rotary timer-switch (set to light up every day at ~5-11 pm) inside the lean-to at the beginning of December, but this evening I'll be putting it back on the outdoor socket (on/off switch in the living room), since terrace-lighting won't be "needed" again until May-June, the time-window in between "weather warm enough to sit outside comfortably after 6 pm" and "sunset after 10 pm".

We didn't have a tree this year, since we were away over Christmas, but the various conifer and holly sprigs doing seasonal window-sill decoration-duty will stay in place until wifey gets bored with them, and/or until she buys her usual crop of pansies, etc. for this spring's display.

I'm not that much further south than I used to live but the sun sets a full half and hour to an hour earlier here in summer and it's kind of a bummer. But, the winter nights aren't quite as long either and the weather is nice 90% of the time so it's a fair trade.

The schismatics there certainly do follow their own religious calendar.
So we can keep this thread up for another twelfnight then. :D

Merry Christmas everybody! :)

All my stuff is still up, including exterior wreaths, however I turned off the exterior lights this past weekend. My interior trees and window candles are still lit but I plan on taking just about everything down this weekend. I always leave stuff up a week or so past New Years, and in years past I have been known to occasionally leave the exterior lights up (but not lit) until the snow melts in Spring. I try not to do that as it embarrasses the wife, but I'm not chiseling lights out of frozen snow/ice covered bushes as it damages the lights and cords. My goal is generally to have everything down by MLK day, but last year that wasn't possible because of a health issue that I am very hopeful does not repeat itself this year.

I hadn't started taking things down this year because we moved recently to a bigger place with more/better storage. So I took the opportunity to go out and get some proper storage bins with wheels to replace the sad, dilapidated, repurposed, motely group of moving boxes that I'd been keeping the decorations in. I just got the bins a day ago, and I wanted to wait until I had them to start organizing the decorations properly into the bins.

Me. :o Normally, they would come down around Three Kings Day, but there was a wedding in Mabini, then my driver hurt his ankle. Tuesday we go into Tag, so we'll probably take it down Wednesday.
...or this weekend. My driver needs to go to Mabini today to pay his property taxes, and the kids are in school. Monica is also coming this weekend, so we'll have lots more folks to help out. :whipped:

Dude, congrats on the upgrade! I'm stoked for you and yours.

And sending positive vibes with respect to the health issue.

Coincidentally, we finally migrated all of our decorations into proper storage bins ourselves. It was kind of sad to throw out old boxes that originally stored chicken at the Quiznos where we met 13 years ago but it was a necessary step.

Yeah, some stuff you gotta just let go... otherwise the next thing you know you're starring in an episode of Hoarding: Buried Alive :p
