It's the other way around, yes, the officers pledge to the Constitution only. That aside, :agree:

Officer oath: I ___, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter.

Enlisted oath: I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Yes, the enlisted oath sounds like it maintains a few more vestigial feudal qualities to it...

That will never pass in most red states until they flip blue or are ordered by the courts. And if they're ordered by the courts, they'll circumvent it as they always have. Florida lost a massive case about the GOP's attempts there to re-disenfranchise ex-felons and they are still not moving to implement the mandated changes.
I should've said should.

Since this thread is sort of just waiting around for the polls to close and it is related...

Reading the relevant Ohio law, there is really not much question that the state health officer certainly has the authority to close the polling stations. Which leaves the obvious question of what happens November 3rd if the constitution is clearly mandating an election and there exists, at least in Ohio, an individual with the legal authority to say no polling stations. The guy might be a Republican (I haven't checked) but regarding today there is not any real doubt that he is operating in good faith and doing what he believes is best for the public good. He isn't chortling in some tower about defying the courts or disrupting democracy. So are states that don't have an alternative to polling stations in place at fault, in the legal sense? Is Ohio, where the condition demonstrably exists, willfully out of compliance with constitutional requirements since they have created a condition where they might be incapable of holding an election as required, or do we have to wait until they actually don't comply to say that?

I hate Michigan, Florida and Texas. It is just wrong to have most of the polls closed and vote counts coming in but no access to exit polling because some off corner of the state is in the next time zone so the polls have another hour.

That said, early returns in Florida indicate the polls prior to the election indicating a Biden blowout are probably going to prove out.

You're starting to figure out the extreme left is a minority. Congratulations for self realization.

I think figuring out the fact that the extreme right (that is REAL Fascists) are also a small minority will take a lot longer, given previous posts.

That was never in doubt, too many oldies

That's why I don't really understand why Sanders is still in the race. He knew he was gonna get blown out today. However, I did wonder if there would be a virus bounce that closed the gap somewhat...and so far that doesn't seem to be happening.

The extreme right is a small minority, but they did successfully seize control of one of the two political parties to amplify their voice.

Maybe he plans to defiantly hold out all to the Convention, despite an inability to win, like Ron Paul did in the GOP Primaries and Convention in 2012.

More hard right than extreme right. I suspect that will backfire, find out in November.

The Republican Party of the United State platform is not at all Fascist. It's predominantly Plutocratic - anything outside that is pure pretense.

Maybe. That's all in narcissism though. Trying to drag supporters through a drubbing just sheds off followers into disillusionment.

The plutocrats have been taken hostage by the fascists. A guy like Romney can barely maintain a voice in the current party.

That to. They have to influence the Dem hierarchy into that.

Getting that drubbing kind of shoots your message in the foot.

Wonder if Cloud has figured out hormone drugs might be in short supply and transitional surgery will be goneburger.

Given your posts of the last couple days, YOU see it as pure narcissism. That's how those who would support people like Sanders (or Paul), or carry on the torch of their political visions and evaluate several years down the line would see it, of course. And such shows of conviction - which you call narcissism - often spread, empower, and strengthen socio-political movements that start more marginal.

I honestly expected Sunday night's debate to be a conferring on policy followed by a dignified "the movement has gained influence and there's no need for primaries in the face of the pandemic" withdrawal. Instead he went for a last act of defiance finger in the air approach.

It wrecks their arguement that they have a popular platform.

How bad was the drubbing? 80-20, 60-40?

Um, no. There's far too few people in the United States that really qualify, ideologically, AT ALL, as Fascists to pull such a stunt, and they're all as thoroughly marginalized as the REAL Communist/hard Socialists in the country. Despite their names coming up every now and then, David Duke and Gloria de la Riva are equally powerless in government, in truth.

LOL...yeah...how's Ron Paul's movement going several years down the line? The man is synonymous with the politics of personal aggrandizement and the only followers he still has are openly mocked as cranks.
