You don't think Biden should show more leadership in a crisis as the presumptive nominee of the opposition in an election year?

There will plenty of time for that later. He is not part of the administration so he can wait and watch and respond as needed. Patience is a virtue.

There are a whole lot of people who would say that the job of a presumptive this and a former that is to support the officially current leader as much as possible in a time of crisis. I know that conflicts with your "Ironsided is the only way" megalomania, but it is how society survives.

And this from Monday morning:

Joe Biden Rips Donald Trump’s Response To Coronavirus Pandemic
The former vice president said he’ll be delivering regular briefings on the COVID-19 crisis from his home in Delaware.

By Tara Golshan

Former Vice President Joe Biden on Monday delivered remarks from his home in Delaware in an effort to reignite his presidential campaign during the coronavirus outbreak, and he blasted President Donald Trump for being slow to respond to the health crisis.

“The president says no one saw this coming. Well, that’s just not accurate,” Biden said. “The mindset that was slow to recognize the problem in the first place ... is still too much of how the president is addressing the problem.”

The address was the first of what the former vice president said will be regular briefings on the coronavirus outbreak, an effort to offer some counterprogramming to Trump’s daily press briefings.

Biden called on Trump to activate the authority of the Defense Production Act, which would mandate that private companies produce medical and safety equipment like ventilators and masks. He also called out the president for not taking the crisis seriously in January, when the first case of coronavirus was detected in the United States.

“Trump keeps saying he is a wartime president — well, start to act like one,” Biden said. “Donald Trump is not to blame for the coronavirus but he does bear responsibility for our response.”

JOE BIDEN
Former Vice President Joe Biden, a current candidate for president, has converted a rec room in his home into a studio from which he can broadcast live and address Americans.
Biden also echoed congressional Democrats’ concerns about current negotiations over a coronavirus bailout package.

Republicans included a proposal to give $500 billion to the Treasury Department, which it could loan to companies ― from airlines to the energy industry ― hit hard by the crisis. The proposal does not require companies to keep employees on payroll, and it would give Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin broad discretion to hand out the money.

“President Trump and Mitch McConnell are trying to put a corporate bailout ahead of millions of families,” Biden said of negotiations in the Senate, calling the bailout package a “slush fund for corporations.”

The country’s “guiding principle” should be “to keep everyone paid through this,” Biden said.

Biden’s remarks come as both his supporters and his detractors have been raising concerns about his inability to campaign in person during the pandemic. Both Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) have canceled all public campaign events.

“I would just love to see you more,” one donor told Biden during a telefundraiser held over the weekend. “Like, how do we get more of you and less of [Trump] on our airwaves?”

Biden has since converted a recreation room in his home into a studio for live broadcasts.

It's an obvious trend. GWBush as outgoing president faces a crisis and the GOP solution is to try to rush through a three page document that says "give the treasury secretary a trillion dollars to hand out as he sees fit." The proposal not only doesn't provide any instructions about oversight, it doesn't even specify that the secretary should keep records of what he does with the money. Now we have another Republican president, probably on his way out, and a different crisis...but the GOP response once again involves handing a giant sack of cash to an unsupervised treasury secretary.

At least this time they are only playing for half a trillion.

Thanks Mods. :)

Democrats unanimously blocked the measure over its provisions allowing the Trump administration to lend hundreds of billions of dollars to major industries like hotels, casinos, cruise lines, and oil and gas.
Fine with this. The fed is already doing enough damage printing money. Most of these gallant statesmen gave aye to the $4 trillion pork bailout in 2009, though, so you can stop pretending your party is acting in good faith here.

I would recommend using episodes of this kind as a barometer for how serious things are. If you start seeing bipartisanship and good legislation, it means the situation with the virus itself is dire.

Or if senators themselves start dying off. Then we'll know it's dire.

Edgar Alan Poe's classic, "The Masq of the Red Death," when all the rich, powerful, and noble elite locked themselves away in an opulent, distant castle to escape the plague known as "The Red Death," but, shockingly, to no avail. :P

Did you see the actual footage? There is a heavily cut down version on joebiden.com and his YouTube (14 minutes from over 20). Biden both looks and sound terrible. Like a very old man someone should take care of in a good home for the elderly and certainly not push to be president. He talks slowly, eyes half shut, slurring his words. It has four times the dislikes to likes on YouTube (not a good indicator, but an indicator). And then you have all the minutes of footage they cut out (all over the tubes) where he loses his train of thoughts, waives at the cue cards to get out of jail etc. He never took questions or interacted with the stream audience or a moderator.

I’m going to add that I think Biden did physically and cognitively better than I expected in the last debate with Sanders, but this recording is a big step down from that mark. He looks like Reagans last year. Maybe he has better and worse days, we all do, but it would seem strange this is the best he can muster when he has had all this time to prepare for 20 minutes without questions.

As for the substance there was basically no substance at all. No help, no coherent plan – not even from the party establishment behind him? A few policy ideas stolen from Sanders default plan that he was dead against just weeks ago. A few good, rehearsed well deserved digs at Trump. The sorry state of healthcare. A few expected platitudes about American spirit and ingenuity. An empty facial expression to match. Biden is a man that belongs in a home not at the helm of a nation combating both Trump and the corona crisis.

And yet, still better than Donald Trump.

Not read that story.

But I saw the old film.

Scary.

That has never been my issue here. The issue is Biden is so ill suited to win against Trump it’s almost a giveaway. Best case the party are taking precautions and making rearrangements for a plan B behind the scene but that is just disingenious and highly dishonest to the very voters they claim to represent. Worst case they are absolutely 100% positively useless at promoting a proper candidate for the much-needed opposition to Donald Trump.

Yes that is why he's been winning against Trump by a wider margin in polls than any other candidate and has roflstomped Bernie. I get it you don't like him. I'm not a fan either. That doesn't mean he is guaranteed to lose.

Do you for one second think Trump is going to be as kind and considerate to Biden as Bernie has been in debates? And the reason Biden is even considered a viable option at all is because of some next level party establishment behind the scenes shenanigans. Biden was fourth and fifth choice before the establishment coordinated fall-off/mass endorsements. Together with the media they are screwing you - and you seem to like it that way.

And you want a repeat of the UK 2019 election result, I gather? Corbyn and Sanders are not dissimilar, nor are Johnson and Trump.
