2020 US Election (Part Two)

Still more than Vermont and Wyoming.

For the record I believe DC should be state too. The actual federal government is a relatively small part of the city that could still be federal territory. But the rest should be a state.

The "we need it to be federal territory" thing is a lame, lame excuse. All that matters is that the people who live there should be able to have Senators and House Members to represent them like everyone else in the US. Literally the only reason that they don't is stone cold, flat out racism. Partisanship-motivated racism, sure, but racism nonetheless.
FYI, population of DC is under 700,000.
Puerto Rico is well over 1 million.

Trump claimed that if he loses the election:
1. He would never speak to us again.
2. He would leave the country.

Let that sink in. If we vote Trump out he promises to leave the country and never speak to us again.... Like... seriously? For reals my dude?!? Pinky swear???

:run:For the love of god and everything that is sacred:please:... please, please, please, everyone get your ballots in and tell him we want him to make good on those threats! :yup:

Toss DC back in with Virginia and Maryland.

So is the coup hysteria over, then?

I'm in Illinois. My electoral votes are for Biden. You'll note I've never asked you to vote for a platform I know you find despicable. I cast off ticket like promised.

Hardball can choke on it and perish.

For reals my dude?
Why would this be the first thing out of his mouth that one would put any stock in?

Or rather, what is the likelihood that this is any more true than anything else he's ever said?

My point is that you, like everyone else on these threads are an indicator of how a whole group people of certain mindsets might be feeling about a particular issue. When Farm Boy tells me that he's all set with Trump, such that he's willing to actually vote for Biden, that tells me that Trump is losing Iowa, regardless of the fact that you live in Illinois. When @Commodore says he's voting for Biden, I know that Trump is toast in Ohio and maybe Georgia too.

When you're still telling me you're sticking to your line in the sand on Hyde, it reminds me that you're not the only one, and we may still end up with a close election... which means the "hysteria" will continue until morale improves.

I think Congress is on a train that has not only left the station, but is rolling downhill on a 45 degree incline when it comes to hardball. Ain't no stopping that train unless you're hiding a red cape underneath your shirt.

Sorry, man, but if he loses, you know as well as I do, the man will not shut up.

Then we will have another crop of hateful liars and acolytes to despise shortly. I mean, it's not like we don't already know them. Assuming they aren't just actually the same turds.

Too late for that... need those Senators... its hardball time at this point I think.

So is one racist if one wants most of DC (aside from the actual federal buildings in the central area) to be merged back into VA/MD, or is it only racism if one opposes statehood?

Obviously he is full of it... but I just really like the idea of him getting the message that his tantrum didn't work because we want him to leave... And I also like the idea of him getting trolled for the rest of his life with "Sooooo... you promised us you would leave the country and never talk to us again if you lost... So GTFO already" every time he tweets or goes on TV.

Again, as though anyone calling him on any of his lies has ever meant diddly to him.

By the way, I've started to think it might be okay. It will be annoying as hell, of course, to hear him second-guessing everything Biden does. But the only place he'll have actual power is with his fan-base. So all he'll really do is cause havoc within the Republican party by making R Congressfolk continue to side with his bat-s*** claims or else they lose his followers. He'll be the reverse of a king-maker--a perpetual thorn in the side of the Republican party.

Do we have a catchy hashtag for it yet?

I'm not going off on the tangent of whether someone is "a racist". I think that a big reason that this untenable situation has been allowed to continue for so long is because the people who are being hosed are mostly black people and black people are a minority that the government has been comfortable mistreating since the country's inception.

Merging the voters into Maryland and Virginia had been my preference for years, but it never happened, and yes it was due to racism as I've outlined above. Politically motivated racism, but still racism, specifically it allows the disenfranchisement of a mostly black population just because they would mostly vote Democratic. Dividing DC's population would have made both Maryland and Virginia solid blue states and to avoid that from happening the mostly black population of DC was kept disenfranchised.

Now that both Maryland and Virginia are both solid blue, anyway I think that dividing the population between them is a political non-starter. Now the conversation has shifted to gaining two more Senate seats. I don't think there is any un-ringing that bell. It's too late. The time to merge the populations was back when Virginia was a red state. It would have been a concession by the Republicans, but it would have settled the issue for once and for all, and more importantly stopped the injustice of the disenfranchisement of the DC population. Now there is nothing to be gained strategically by merging the populations so now its firmly about statehood.

The mostly black population in DC do not have the representation that they are entitled to as citizens of the country. This is an injustice that needs to end. It should not be subject to negotiation. Their citizenship is not negotiable. Saying "Oh I agree that those black people can get the same representation enjoyed by other citizens, but only if they agree to do it in a certain way" is unacceptable. And again, I am confident that it is precisely because they are mostly black people (and Hispanic in Puerto Rico's case) that they are being treated that way.

Trump claimed that if he loses the election:
1. He would never speak to us again.
2. He would leave the country.

Strangely enough I believe him.

He is perfectly capable of drawing a line under things,
that have not worked out, failed business ventures,
colleagues in trouble, previous wives, and I think he
could do well do the same regarding 4 years as POTUS.

But where would he go, visit his friend Rocket Man?

It's an abysmal idea, but this change would require a constitutional amendment.

Would it definitely? There's been bills drafted for DC representation. The worst that could happen would be the legislation giving all six populated territories representation might be challenged and overturned later on.

FYI, population of DC is under 700,000.

FWIW I live in a federal capital territory roughly half that size with 3 house of reps members and two senators
