2020 US Election (Part Two)

So is one racist if one wants most of DC (aside from the actual federal buildings in the central area) to be merged back into VA/MD, or is it only racism if one opposes statehood?
Adding it to either of those states would at least be an improvement on the current situation. Maybe add it to Virginia, as that state has been having parts lopped off it throughout its history, about time they get given something back!

I hope Puerto Rico gets statehood. I'm sure GOP will fight it tough and nail to stop Puerto Rico & DC getting statehood even if morally adding them is the right thing to do. They wont want one likely Democratic leaning state (Puerto Rico) and one very democratic leaning state (DC) added. But maybe they should trust that they can win them over to their ideology if it really is the superior ideology, rather then trying to fight the morally correct decision. After all states can change their political stances, until 2000 West Virginia was a relatively safe Democrat state, and now it is one of the most Republican leaning states.

You guys should just legislate to add congressional representatives for your territories tbh. Having citizens who can't vote isn't a great idea.
*nationals

Seriously, the US still has a category for people born in territories which makes them foreign to every other country but not have the rights of a US citizen within the US. Look it up.

They should at least have to call them colonially occupied subjects or something

But the US is anti-colonialist.

For the record, Venezuela's emissions are about half a percent of the world total while US emissions are three times higher per capita and constitute nearly 15% of the world total.

So I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.

You might also consider that Venezuela exported more of its oil to the US than anywhere else until 2019.
My point is that when we are worried about climate change (as we should be) and critical of massive US emissions (as we also should be), it is rather strange to give free pass to a country whose entire economy seems to rely on exporting fossil fuels.

Fossil fuels are still necessary until we can get new systems online.

Everyone concerned about Puerto Rico statehood but nobody wanting to take up the cause for decolonising Guam, Samoa or the Virgin Islands

Yep the can join the party too....but I think their numbers make it a harder sell.

Bottom line is, admit DC and Puerto Rico first... then we can fight over the rest.

Now the conversation has shifted to gaining two more Senate seats. I don't think there is any un-ringing that bell. It's too late. The time to merge the populations was back when Virginia was a red state. It would have been a concession by the Republicans, but it would have settled the issue for once and for all, and more importantly stopped the injustice of the disenfranchisement of the DC population. Now there is nothing to be gained strategically by merging the populations so now its firmly about statehood.

"Strategic rights" is an excellent argument in favor of out-hardballing Representatives by... well, it's not allowable forum conversation, is it?

I'd wager that a good chunk - probably even a majority - of people concerned about PR statehood don't even know about two out of three of those islands.

I mean, most logically you'd probably just want to see American Samoa just unifying with the much larger independent Samoan state.

There's also scope to just add these places to other states so they get representation, eg moving Guam and NMI into Hawaii. Or join them to DC for electoral purposes if DC gets voting rights.

(Australia has this complicated kludge for representing four very small territories each with less than 2000 residents, whereby they vote in an electoral division of either the Northern Territory or Australian Capital Territory even though they're legally run as separate entities, not administered by any states. This led to the hilarious situation of people in Norfolk Island voting for a party called "Bullet Train for Australia" a few years ago)

Blacks and Hispanic citizens are getting shafted. That's what's on the table. Disagree or get onboard.

I got on years ago, you're changing the destination.

PR would make a lovely 51st state. MA and VA should get the Representatives. No federal state.

Digging into the NYP overage of the Biden family, which cannot just be dismissed as fake news though most media are attempting it, the corrupt deals and connection to the outright mob are bad, very bad. Pointing it out because the ongoing media censorship stinks.

Whomever wins the US is destined to remain locked as a kleptocracy.

The NYP story is absolutely fraudulent. Byline was excluded because the writers simply wouldn't do it, they eventually stuck it on someone who wasn't involved in the story and doesn't want their name on it. It's a complete fabrication on every single level, and if you want to talk about mob connections, you have only to look at the origin of the story, (because that's what it is, a story) Rudy Giuliani.

Why is this censorship? Because the regular press considers Schweizer suspect? To the extent that he is accurately portraying the American kleptocracy would be much better if he wasn't openly advocating for a more direct version of the kleptocracy.

He linked a different NYP hit piece. One that is not a complete fabrication like the hunter laptop one.

The latest news pieces, suspiciously close to the election, may be. There is little hope of being sure of anything now. But this piece I was seeing is from 2018.

Ok then I'm combining the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho into one state. fair trade
