Then why did less than half of that number actually vote for him?

Voting is proactive and happens due to a constellation of factors. I wasn't making my threshold into "support enough to actually vote for him", since moral support seems to do it for most people (even in regions where they think they care).

I think people should take the claim "covid is going away" seriously, in that people are becoming inured to it. We're especially going to see it after Trump's big rallies - a LOT of people aren't going to notice the spike that happens - because it will happen in ways that are functionally invisible to us - and thus 'realize' that cowering in fear was happening because of the lying MSM.

It's going to be a mix of psychological factors, and they could very easily coalesce into thinking that the threat from covid isn't as big as people thought and thus effectively the threat will diminish in their minds.

We took the eye off the ball - that Trump's policies were shuttling wealth upwards. Wages went up, but the debt went up faster.

A complete lack of perspective and proportion. Absolutist, binary, bloc thinking and other related highly toxic and braindead ways of viewing the world. You cannot see the forest for the trees. This is one of many (NOT THE TOTALITY, in case I'm misunderstood, and my message gets pushed to absolutes disingenuously, again) aspects of REAL Fascist ideology - that individual people are not NEARLY as important or relevant as demographics and ideological blocs. The mentality that makes mass stripping of rights, genocide, irredentist wars, etc., easier to pass off. You are just as susceptible to it as anyone else, and you, and a number of others, already show the tell-tale nascent of this form of communal sociopathy. Are you REALLY better than those you so fervently seek to bring down in this area, at heart?
Cripes, I'm not even sure where you're going with this. I'm arguing with Tim and Lex that GoP voters aren't all evil racist fascists. A lot of them are single issue voters that choose a side 100% because of one issue. I view that as stupid, just my opinion. IDGAF which party you're supporting, if it's for a single issue you're stupid. If anything I'm arguing that the kooks that support the GoP are just kooks not evil.

I get that your schtick is there is no choice in the two major parties. I get it. Both parties suck. That's an arguement to hash out in the primaries. Now we're stuck with two outcomes. Individuals can choose to walk away from both parties (the biggest voting bloc is those who choose not to vote). They can vote 3rd party, I support that and get it. Those choices do matter, I'm not one to dismiss them. Those choices illustrate a need to appeal to third party and non voters.

OTOH the potus will be Biden or Trump, period. Rail against it all you want, that's just how it is.

Sorry El Mac, if people can't get their heads around "he's making me more likely to die of a disease," they'll never get their heads around this.

I.e. that's not the meme you're looking for.

Sorry El Mac, if people can't get their heads around "he's making me more likely to die of a disease,"

Just watch, it's being rephrased as "had insignificant input as to whether someone I possibly knew died a little earlier than they would have". Ignore that at your peril, I think. I'm not going to argue that Trump handled it well, or that he does anything well, but the real risk is that people think his bungling didn't really matter and that the MSM has lost the plot.

Edit:
Compare that to promoting someone incompetent to HHS during a pandemic. Promoting someone incompetent to USPS as mail-in voting became essential.

There are a percentage of supporters all parties that are actually running electorally in every nation, sovereign or de facto, or administrative subdivision or non-integral remote territory that actually holds elections and allows partisan labels that vote for their chosen party because of a single issue. It is not unique to the Republican Party of the United States, and nor is their percentage of support who do so the highest out there - and there are a very notable number of supporters of the Democratic Party of the United States (such as "vote out Trump, and don't care or even think about what Biden, Harris, and Pelosi will do after that, how the issues of the Democratic base who strongly favour Progressive ideas will be royally screwed, and that the lingering and underlying issues that ALLOWED Trump to win in the first place will go unaddressed, and that the nation is still going down the tubes and all the corruption, abuse of power, and antiquated electoral mechanics remain firmly and solidly in place - only voting against Trump matters," as a VERY good example of a one-issue vote type for Democrats right now).

It's true, distaste for Trump would be the primary motivator. Getting a public option on healthcare and an actual acknowledgement of AGW would be a pretty big sweetener for that pot if someone was progressive.

Problem here being that while many may not actually be evil, they're certainly all willing to facilitate evil to push for their single issue.

Yeah, they're stupid. I've said that. Many of these people are too stupid or willfully ignorant to recognize the evil.

And evil, corruption, and criminal enterprise abound in both major parties. To not facilitate evil, the voters must realize this, show true care for their country, and oust the whole repugnant Duopoly and their rigged electoral system, and the soulless plutocrats that line both of their pockets for malignant gain.

See, that's just bullfeathers. There's really no comparison at all. Not that the Democrats don't suck. But sucking and evil are 2 extremely different things.

"Sucking," is a derisive of quality, not ethics, based on a crude jailhouse sexual metaphor. "Evil," is a theological, not political, term. Neither are truly applicable or appropriate in this discussion.

It isn't "the evil" I am wondering about them not recognizing.

I can't really understand how they can convince themselves they are getting "their way" if they are Republicans. Trump has openly abandoned every "virtue" the GOP claimed to stand for. Mitt Romney and the GOP feature the 'debt clock' ticking away at their convention in 2012. Trump openly mocks the idea of being responsible about the debt. That's just one example but seriously they all play out the same.

LOL..could you complain about "not applicable to the topic" in a way more obviously designed to derail the thread?

I'm going to have you take a look back at a term you yourself employed in the post literally immediately before this one:

And by the way, it's complicity. And nascent isn't a noun.

I did indeed use hat term out of proper context, along with others in my history on these forums. I admit it. Everyone makes such mistakes, especially in the emotional state when typing highly charged posts. However, I realize, in retrospect, another term should probably have been used. Does @Cutlass realize the same of his post, however?

At what point do we stop equivocating and just say they're functionally evil?

When we're discussing religion, and not politics. As I said above, "evil," is a theological, not political, term.

What if people one has theologically deemed evil are in positions of political power and are perpetrating their evil through political means?

Then such statements should be worded clearly from that perspective. Evangelical and Islamist speakers never mince words about where they believe the source of their moral condemnation of political leaders comes from, do they?
