GLOBAL ECONOMIC DEPRESSION AT HAND. Hamburg, German Empire. The big news for the year is the confirmation and exacerbation of a global economic downturn. Over the past few years the international economy has sunk dramatically, and it reached a climax this year with the Hamburg Stock Collapse in early March. Factors which have been attributed to the recession of the global market are varied, and no single cause can be linked to the downturn. The first of these is the so-called fall of South America and Mexico to communism and socialism. The nationalization of internal industries and the creation of a market separate from the mainstream capitalist system have led to many nations with former trading ties to the region to lose many of their consumers. This in turn has led to the shutting down of consumer industries. A second cause can be directly linked to the devastation of the Suez Canal in the ongoing Suez War. Oceanic shipping took a dramatic increase in costs thanks to this problem, and businesses have been forced to cut costs in response to the increased pricing. The establishment of tariffs by the East Atlantic Customs Union has dramatically affected European businesses in the Americas, forcing many out of the region entirely. Finally, the diversion of civilian shipping by Germany for the invasion of the Middle East has caused a severe rise in the price of consumer shipping, and thereby the decline of customer spending. As more people have saved their money over recent years, inflation has begun rising dramatically in Europe and North America. The persistent conflicts following the Great War have also brought about further destabilization and devastation of the global economy. The shift in economic trends has played a major part in domestic politics, as governments have been destabilized by the hard times, some nations seeing a nearly 40% decline in national economies. This has been noted in the rise of rightist and leftist extremist groups, and internal dissent. With the global economy continuing to shrink, it is believed the situation will only worsen over the next few years. CHICAGO ANNOUNCES NEW IMMIGRATION POLICY. Chicago, Free City of Chicago. The Chicagoan government has issued a proclamation of a new Open Door Immigration policy for its border with Virginia. They have offered safe have for recently freed or unemployed negroes within Virginian borders, and a way of transit into Canada or New England. Many blacks have taken up on this offer, moving into the city for transportation to other locations. A whole new economy relying on transit has erupted as these people find themselves soon penniless thanks to the dedicated efforts of Chicagoan entrepreneurs.
CANADA ELECTIONS. Toronto, Canada. This years elections, like in so many other places, have revolved around the ongoing global economic meltdown. The Conservative Party has lost their majority in Congress though they retain the Presidency. The Liberals have made a strong showing and it is likely that debating between the two parties may cripple and paralyze the Canadian government. (-1 Stability)
ALONGONQUIN ELECTIONS. Fox Falls, Algonquin Nation. Though the economic recession has yet to reach the lands of the Algonquin, the elections remained dominated by it as an issue. The Liberal Party has won a major victory over the moderates and conservatives this year, promising to forestall the effects of the Depression in their country. This has won them great popularity in the hopes that the Algonquin people may well be able to dodge the cannonball of recession. (+3 Stability)
IROQUOIS ELECTIONS. Mohawk, Iroquois Republic. The Iroquois government, while remaining mostly unaffected by the recession, has seen a tumultuous change in government. The Socialist Party has managed to dominate the nations Council and Presidency, as they launch an ambitious an unending campaign to gain power in this years elections. The Socialists have promised social reform and internal development, much along the lines of the Republic of New France or Pennsylvania. (+1 Stability)
VIRGINIA ELECTIONS. Richmond, Virginian Empire. As fear grips the voting majority of the nation due to the rising unemployment caused by the recession, they have voted for the Reactionary Party to take charge of political offices. The Peoples House is now thoroughly under the control of the reactionaries, who hope to maintain the monarchys power over the country and pursue a course of stability and control over the nations migrating negro population. Several violent protests were held by the Ku Klux Klan in Kentucky, but the efforts were soon suppressed by local police forces. (+1 Stability)
VIOLENCE GROWS IN METIS REPUBLIC. Winnipeg, Metis Republic. The massive economic downturn which spread quickly to the Metis Republic continued to have a lasting effect throughout the year. The rising numbers of unemployed grew dramatically, followed by the establishment of the nations first unions to help protect against the threat of corporate or government exploitation. Corporations have bribed corrupt elements of the military to help suppress unionist activity, smashing rallies and protecting factories. The rabble have quickly begun buying the socialist propaganda emanating from the west, and its believe that a civil war could soon erupt. (-4 Manpower, -3 Infantry Brigades)
SENATE RECALLED IN GEORGIA. Savannah, Georgia. The Georgian governor has called a Senate meeting this year, resulting in elections across the country. The new Senate has limited to no actual power underneath the governor, but it has shown a distinct polarization within the country. The Liberal Party has brought in numerous supporters from urban districts, mostly the negro and immigrant populations. The Ku Klux Klan has secured the bare majority of the Senate, consisting of the western and rural populations. (+1 Stability)
NEW SUBMARINE UNVIELED BY NEW ENGLAND. Boston, Republic of New England. Thanks to the development of oil-powered engines and improved torpedo technology, New England has built the first long range submarine. This craft, over twice the size of the old submarines, has show durability at far longer ranges. These vessels are actually capable of trans-oceanic cruises, unlike the older models which had to be transported by freighters to localized ports. These ships carry larger amounts of torpedoes and crew, allowing for ever greater firepower in battle.
CUSTOMS UNION ESTABLISHED. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. To the outrage of several international businesses in Europe, the nations of the United Nation States of America have signed into existence a new barrier to foreign domination of internal industry and resources. The East Atlantic Customs Union raises tariffs on all nations not actually members of the Union while dramatically lowering them on those within. The effect on the global economy is mentioned in the above section on the recession.
MEXICAN RECONSTRUCTION PROGRAM COMPLETE. Mexico City, Union of Mexico. Several years of spending and effort have led to the completion of the Mexican Economic Reconstruction Program. Unfortunately, the economic effect has been negligible at best as the costs have far outweighed the benefits. However, the program has had the added benefit of bringing stability to the country as the rest of the world enters into economic confusion. The results of the program have been said to demonstrate the strength of the communist way of life to the global community. (+2 Stability)
TENNESSEE CIVIL WAR. Nashville, Tennessee. The civil war in Tennessee continues to deteriorate in civility. The war has quickly become a war not between left and right, but between white and black. Regardless of political views, all Negroes are now considered hostiles by advancing government troops. Whites in Negro held territory are treated in a similar manner. There have been numerous reports of increasingly brutal atrocities and the internment of large numbers of Negro residents of the country. Black refugees have been fleeing into Georgia, causing extensive problems in that country, as many cross the country side with arms, fighting constantly with the Ku Klux Klan. They seem driven to make it to havens in Louisiana and Florida. Militarily, the whites have managed to win several major victories over the insurgents, crushing the Negro army in the field. Some pockets continue to hold on plantations, but it seems that the rebellion is soon to be destroyed.

CHAOS IN DESERET. Bringhamton, Deseret. The government fled Bringhamton this year in the wake of a major purge of the military. Almost all non-Mormons were forced out of military office, including several upper ranking generals. Fearing retaliation from violent mobs of so-called Gentiles, the government fled the capital to a town closer to Texas. The Mormonization of the military met with significant protest, and anarchy ensued within the major cities of the country as large elements of the army and law enforcement simply disappeared into the populace. The country now rests under the control of roving gangs and chaos. Only small regions have retained order, where active military forces remain present. BUENOS AIRES ELECTIONS. Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires Protectorate. The global economic recession has taken a major toll in the politics of South America. Despite the reigning conservatives best efforts, the Conservative Party of Buenos Aires has taken the blame for the economic downturn in the nation. This has thrown the political machine into chaos, as a multitude of factions vie for superiority. No real majority was established in the elections, but the Socialist Party has managed to emerge dominant, promising reform and nationalization of failing industry. (-1 Stability)
TURMOIL IN THE UPCA. Guatemala City, United Provinces of Central America. The Socialist Party won a disputed victory in this years elections in the United Provinces of Central America. Some evidence suggested electoral fraud or Mexican intervention in favor of the Socialists. In response the military has mobilized and threatened to restore order themselves if new elections are not held. The Socialists have rallied various unions and militias to respond to the militarys threat, though no one really believes that theyll have a chance against an organized regular force. (-2 Stability)
JAMAICA HOLDS FIRST ELECTIONS. Kingston, Jamaica. The underdeveloped new nation of Jamaica has held its first elections this year, and a coalition of republican leftists have managed to win the majority vote. The Jamaican Liberal Party has taken the Presidency and Congress, particularly with the illegalization of the Socialist and Communist Parties under the Texan advised constitution. The Liberal Party has promised to build up new industry as well as traditional agriculture in the hopes of making Jamaica a strong member of the Gulf Alliance. (+1 Stability)
ECUADOR UNDER ATTACK. Quito, Ecuador. War has once more erupted in South America, as the nations of Colombia and Peru attack Ecuador. They have pledged to begun the scourging of socialism from the continent, starting with the small nation sandwiched between them. The attackers achieved several significant military victories on the battlefield, smashing the Ecuadorian military. Peru was surprisingly able to smash previously scouted communist jungle strongholds in eastern Ecuador, denying the defenders their guerilla positions of the civil war. In northwestern Ecuador, the Colombians smashed the regular military and began a drive south. However, in the south along the coast, Ecuadors military was better prepared and managed to halt the Peruvian northward advance and push it across the border. Massive amounts of recruits have been assembled by both sides as the fighting drags onward.

GREECE ELECTIONS. Athens, Greece. Unlike in most other countries, the nation of Greece has not had extensive debates on the blame and origins of the recession. Instead the focus of politics has been upon the escalating war in the Balkans between Russia and their former protectorates. As the war nears Greek borders, there remain some fears of Russia attempted to expand its influence even beyond its former protectorate. The Greek Liberal Party has won reelection based on the past history of maintaining Greeces strength and independence. (+1 Stability)
MILITARY MOVES AGAINST SOCIALISTS IN ENGLAND. London, England. In response to the Socialist Partys new presence in Parliament and blaming them for the recession, the English military has determined to restore the power of the King. The military moved in several English cities, declaring martial law and arresting the leading Socialist Party members. These people have been thrown into prison, denying the rabble someone to rouse them against the militarys move. The heaviest fighting took place within London itself as loyalist elements of the military fought against the reactionaries. Relatively light casualties were suffered, and order has been restored. Under the direction of the military, King Edward VIII has once more been given direct control over the nation, as an absolute monarch. (+2 Stability, -6 Manpower, -1 Infantry Brigade)
SERBS CRUSH REPUBLICAN COUP. Belgrade, Serbia. As Russian troops continue their drives south, the Serbian military has once more made an attempt to oust the monarchy in the hopes of ending the war. The military leadership involved was arrested well before the coup could even begin, causing trouble along the front lines. Fortunately, there was relatively little fighting, just some confusion which could be seen by Russian and Transylvanian troops along the Danube River.
GENEVA CONFERENCE FAILURE. Geneva, Switzerland. Danish attempts to create new protocols on the treatment of prisoners of war and the conduct of war failed miserably this year. A total lack of international interest in the wake of the depression have forestalled any public support for this event. Most nations failed to send any representatives to the conference, leaving the Danish ambassador alone, and any discussion with the few present completed failed to get off the ground.
SWEDES PASS EDUCATION REFORM. Stockholm, Swedish Empire. The Swedish government this year determined to pass a groundbreaking educational reform, teaching mandatory lessons in all three languages within Scandinavia. This move has been met with significant popular resistance in all regions, resenting the dramatic time increased of public schooling. Furthermore, the various national movements have denounced this as an attempt to quell regional differences, and have staged protests in favor of individual national identity. (-1 Stability)
BALKAN WAR. Kiev, Russian Imperial Federation. The Russian military has made a major advance against the armies of the Balkan League, smashing through Moldavian military forces. The success of the battle is attributed to a massive scaled offensive using a large number of tanks to support the advancing soldiers. Though major casualties were inflicted upon the lumbering behemoths, the Russians managed to shatter Moldavian forces north of the Danube River. The capture of the de jure capital of Iasi has led to the creation of the Republic of Romania, a new country established without the monarch to manage the region. A true Romanian government has yet to materialize, but Russian officials promise the first elections and a constitution as soon as the Balkan League monarchial threat is extinguished. Though the Moldavian government remains in the field with a sizeable force, the Danube has been crossed and heavy fighting continues as Bulgarian reinforcements arrive from the south. The Bulgarians arrived fresh from a victory at Constantinople as sheer numbers managed to shatter the Russian army there. With the front lines broken, the Russian garrison was forced to surrender to an army nearly twenty times their size. Further west, Serbia has maintained a strong defensive position along the Danube River, where they maintain a phony war with the Russians and Transylvanians. Only limited fighting has taken place, and minimal casualties.

FRENCH CIVIL WAR. Paris, France. The French Civil War has taken a dramatic new turn. The Battle of Paris, which began last year between the imperialists and socialists quickly resulted in a victory for the socialists, smashing the main imperialist force in the north. Drives from the south by the Lisists sealed the fate of the army, which soon disintegrated into nothing. The socialists and Lisists have begun fighting throughout central France, though the Socialists have retained control of Paris. Belgian forces have arrived from the north, providing the socialists with even more firepower in the ongoing battle. The victory of the socialists has sparked a major change in Frances government. The Imperialists have determined that they are indeed better dead than Red and under pressure from colonial management, have ceded control of their remaining military forces to the Lisist faction. The Lisists have taken in a collaborative government, though the fate of the King and other elements of the government have yet to be determined.

MOROCCO LAUNCHES NEW BATTLESHIP. Casablanca, Morocco. After several years of investment from Morocco and a consortium of other nations, the Moroccan Royal Shipyards have christened the new RMS Atlantic. This vessel has already been brought into production in Morocco as well as several other nations, who have been granted the designs. This new battleship is comparatively equal to the New Englander Victory-class battleship, though it was designed with a coal engine in mind, rather than a petroleum based one.
SUEZ WAR. Baghdad, Virginian Empire. The war between the Western coalition and the Ottoman Empire has continued unabated this year as the fighting escalates with the arrival of German forces. Dutch forces have begun more or less sitting on the sidelines of the conflict, moving into Rashid Arabia to establish their new puppet king on the throne of that nation. Some fighting did take place between the Dutch and the Ottomans with the recapture of Riyadh by the Arabs. See the below article for more information on the situation in Arabia. Virginias army has also withdrawn from the fighting, signing the Treaty of Baghdad with the Ottoman Empire. This treaty has secured a large part of Mesopotamia to the Virginian Empire and guaranteed Virginia control over sections of Persia as well. This has meant that the full force of the Ottomans have been brought to bear against the German advances. Despite this, the German army has managed to penetrate the Ottoman lines and begin driving northward against them. The consolidation of a single front, while meaning victory for the coalition, has allowed a major defensive position to hold against further attacks. Heavy casualties have been inflicted upon the Germans, as tanks are brought in and destroyed by the Ottoman defenders.

TURMOIL CONTINUES IN PERSIA. Tehran, Persia. Events seem to be continuing to spiral out of control in Persia as the nations government is increasingly impotent against a multitude of threats. The warlord of Hormogzan continues to hold his forces together, despite a constant and persistent attack by the government. Baluchestan has managed to also hold their armies together, even fighting minor skirmishes with some Afghani raiding parties. On that note, Afghanistan tribal leaders and warlords have begun moving into Persia, easily brushing aside minor garrisons in the chaos of the region. A large swathe of land has fallen to the Afghanis in their advances. To the west, the Virginians have continued to exploit the failing situation with a drive to the north, securing more land to protect their newfound control over Mesopotamia. The Persian government is beginning to resent these occupiers, as they advance more and more into the region.

DUTCH ESTABLISH NEW ARAB GOVERNMENT. Riyadh, Rashid Arabia. The government of the Arab Federation has at last been replaced by the Empire of the Netherlands. The coalition government of various houses and factions has been determined by the Dutch to be inherently unstable and a new monarchy has been established. The House of Rashid has been placed on the throne, naming the very state after themselves. Emir Saud bin Abdul Aziz is the new ruler of this nation, and has pledged a united front with the Dutch and the coalition against the remnants of the failing Ottoman oppressors. Significant fighting erupted over the creation of the new government as other houses and ideological groups attempted to remove the Rashid family. Dutch military forces were brought in, stabilizing the nation, and retaking Riyadh to legitimatize the new government.

The Moroccans have pledged to once more take an independent course and to keep their borders secure, for now and forever against foreign imperialism. (+3 Stability)

TURMOIL IN REPUBLICAN CHINA. Lanzhou, Republic of China. Various elements of the military have made a bid for power against the republicans once more as victory seems to be soon at hand. The lack of the Korean Empire in China has allowed those who participated in what was effectively an alliance of convenience to once more make bids for power. In the wake of some week-long protests against the nationalist movement, the former warlord of Guangxi, Shi Ao Nu, has once more rallied troops to him in his former province. He has pledged to maintain his power and the power of his supporters in the wake of the new imperialist republican government. Guangxi has separated from China, though pledging assurances of protection to the new Korean and Portuguese cities on the mainland. They have pledged that the fighting will not spill over into those lands.
NEW WARLORD IN SHANXI. Taiyuan, Shanxi. The former warlord of Shanxi, Xue Man Kuang, has been deposed by one of his top lieutenants, Fan Wu Rou, who has taken charge of the government. The new leader has consolidated his power, crushing the opposition which emerged. New leaders have been promoted within the government of the region, and they hope to maintain their strength against the rising force of the Republic of China. (+3 Stability)
KOREANS WITHDRAW FROM CHINA. Nanjing, Swedish Empire. The three year long conflict between the Korean Empire and an alliance of Western powers has come to a close this year. A treaty has been signed ending all Korean support for the imperialist government of China, turning over treaty ports to both Portugal and Korea. Hostilities have come to a close with European forces as the blockade is withdrawn and forces are pulled off the continent. Though warfare continues between the republicans and the imperialists, the era of foreign intervention seems to be at a close.
FIGHTING STILL ISNT DONE IN CHINA. Zhengzhou, Chinese Empire. Despite the end of Korean support for imperialist China, the war still continues unabated. Using republican and Korean built fortifications the Chinese Empire has managed to hold back the republicans. This, combined with major defections within the republican ranks, has allowed the empire to maintain their strength on the field. Limited counter-attacks have been made, but the front has become stalemated as republican generals move to counter threats from the new state of Guangxi as well as the growing militaries of Shanxi and Sinkiang.

CHICAGO ANNOUNCES NEW IMMIGRATION POLICY. Chicago, Free City of Chicago. The Chicagoan government has issued a proclamation of a new Open Door Immigration policy for its border with Virginia. They have offered safe have for recently freed or unemployed negroes within Virginian borders, and a way of transit into Canada or New England. Many blacks have taken up on this offer, moving into the city for transportation to other locations. A whole new economy relying on transit has erupted as these people find themselves soon penniless thanks to the dedicated efforts of Chicagoan entrepreneurs.
CANADA ELECTIONS. Toronto, Canada. This years elections, like in so many other places, have revolved around the ongoing global economic meltdown. The Conservative Party has lost their majority in Congress though they retain the Presidency. The Liberals have made a strong showing and it is likely that debating between the two parties may cripple and paralyze the Canadian government. (-1 Stability)
ALONGONQUIN ELECTIONS. Fox Falls, Algonquin Nation. Though the economic recession has yet to reach the lands of the Algonquin, the elections remained dominated by it as an issue. The Liberal Party has won a major victory over the moderates and conservatives this year, promising to forestall the effects of the Depression in their country. This has won them great popularity in the hopes that the Algonquin people may well be able to dodge the cannonball of recession. (+3 Stability)
IROQUOIS ELECTIONS. Mohawk, Iroquois Republic. The Iroquois government, while remaining mostly unaffected by the recession, has seen a tumultuous change in government. The Socialist Party has managed to dominate the nations Council and Presidency, as they launch an ambitious an unending campaign to gain power in this years elections. The Socialists have promised social reform and internal development, much along the lines of the Republic of New France or Pennsylvania. (+1 Stability)
VIRGINIA ELECTIONS. Richmond, Virginian Empire. As fear grips the voting majority of the nation due to the rising unemployment caused by the recession, they have voted for the Reactionary Party to take charge of political offices. The Peoples House is now thoroughly under the control of the reactionaries, who hope to maintain the monarchys power over the country and pursue a course of stability and control over the nations migrating negro population. Several violent protests were held by the Ku Klux Klan in Kentucky, but the efforts were soon suppressed by local police forces. (+1 Stability)
VIOLENCE GROWS IN METIS REPUBLIC. Winnipeg, Metis Republic. The massive economic downturn which spread quickly to the Metis Republic continued to have a lasting effect throughout the year. The rising numbers of unemployed grew dramatically, followed by the establishment of the nations first unions to help protect against the threat of corporate or government exploitation. Corporations have bribed corrupt elements of the military to help suppress unionist activity, smashing rallies and protecting factories. The rabble have quickly begun buying the socialist propaganda emanating from the west, and its believe that a civil war could soon erupt. (-4 Manpower, -3 Infantry Brigades)
SENATE RECALLED IN GEORGIA. Savannah, Georgia. The Georgian governor has called a Senate meeting this year, resulting in elections across the country. The new Senate has limited to no actual power underneath the governor, but it has shown a distinct polarization within the country. The Liberal Party has brought in numerous supporters from urban districts, mostly the negro and immigrant populations. The Ku Klux Klan has secured the bare majority of the Senate, consisting of the western and rural populations. (+1 Stability)
NEW SUBMARINE UNVIELED BY NEW ENGLAND. Boston, Republic of New England. Thanks to the development of oil-powered engines and improved torpedo technology, New England has built the first long range submarine. This craft, over twice the size of the old submarines, has show durability at far longer ranges. These vessels are actually capable of trans-oceanic cruises, unlike the older models which had to be transported by freighters to localized ports. These ships carry larger amounts of torpedoes and crew, allowing for ever greater firepower in battle.
CUSTOMS UNION ESTABLISHED. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. To the outrage of several international businesses in Europe, the nations of the United Nation States of America have signed into existence a new barrier to foreign domination of internal industry and resources. The East Atlantic Customs Union raises tariffs on all nations not actually members of the Union while dramatically lowering them on those within. The effect on the global economy is mentioned in the above section on the recession.
MEXICAN RECONSTRUCTION PROGRAM COMPLETE. Mexico City, Union of Mexico. Several years of spending and effort have led to the completion of the Mexican Economic Reconstruction Program. Unfortunately, the economic effect has been negligible at best as the costs have far outweighed the benefits. However, the program has had the added benefit of bringing stability to the country as the rest of the world enters into economic confusion. The results of the program have been said to demonstrate the strength of the communist way of life to the global community. (+2 Stability)
TENNESSEE CIVIL WAR. Nashville, Tennessee. The civil war in Tennessee continues to deteriorate in civility. The war has quickly become a war not between left and right, but between white and black. Regardless of political views, all Negroes are now considered hostiles by advancing government troops. Whites in Negro held territory are treated in a similar manner. There have been numerous reports of increasingly brutal atrocities and the internment of large numbers of Negro residents of the country. Black refugees have been fleeing into Georgia, causing extensive problems in that country, as many cross the country side with arms, fighting constantly with the Ku Klux Klan. They seem driven to make it to havens in Louisiana and Florida. Militarily, the whites have managed to win several major victories over the insurgents, crushing the Negro army in the field. Some pockets continue to hold on plantations, but it seems that the rebellion is soon to be destroyed.

CHAOS IN DESERET. Bringhamton, Deseret. The government fled Bringhamton this year in the wake of a major purge of the military. Almost all non-Mormons were forced out of military office, including several upper ranking generals. Fearing retaliation from violent mobs of so-called Gentiles, the government fled the capital to a town closer to Texas. The Mormonization of the military met with significant protest, and anarchy ensued within the major cities of the country as large elements of the army and law enforcement simply disappeared into the populace. The country now rests under the control of roving gangs and chaos. Only small regions have retained order, where active military forces remain present. BUENOS AIRES ELECTIONS. Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires Protectorate. The global economic recession has taken a major toll in the politics of South America. Despite the reigning conservatives best efforts, the Conservative Party of Buenos Aires has taken the blame for the economic downturn in the nation. This has thrown the political machine into chaos, as a multitude of factions vie for superiority. No real majority was established in the elections, but the Socialist Party has managed to emerge dominant, promising reform and nationalization of failing industry. (-1 Stability)
TURMOIL IN THE UPCA. Guatemala City, United Provinces of Central America. The Socialist Party won a disputed victory in this years elections in the United Provinces of Central America. Some evidence suggested electoral fraud or Mexican intervention in favor of the Socialists. In response the military has mobilized and threatened to restore order themselves if new elections are not held. The Socialists have rallied various unions and militias to respond to the militarys threat, though no one really believes that theyll have a chance against an organized regular force. (-2 Stability)
JAMAICA HOLDS FIRST ELECTIONS. Kingston, Jamaica. The underdeveloped new nation of Jamaica has held its first elections this year, and a coalition of republican leftists have managed to win the majority vote. The Jamaican Liberal Party has taken the Presidency and Congress, particularly with the illegalization of the Socialist and Communist Parties under the Texan advised constitution. The Liberal Party has promised to build up new industry as well as traditional agriculture in the hopes of making Jamaica a strong member of the Gulf Alliance. (+1 Stability)
ECUADOR UNDER ATTACK. Quito, Ecuador. War has once more erupted in South America, as the nations of Colombia and Peru attack Ecuador. They have pledged to begun the scourging of socialism from the continent, starting with the small nation sandwiched between them. The attackers achieved several significant military victories on the battlefield, smashing the Ecuadorian military. Peru was surprisingly able to smash previously scouted communist jungle strongholds in eastern Ecuador, denying the defenders their guerilla positions of the civil war. In northwestern Ecuador, the Colombians smashed the regular military and began a drive south. However, in the south along the coast, Ecuadors military was better prepared and managed to halt the Peruvian northward advance and push it across the border. Massive amounts of recruits have been assembled by both sides as the fighting drags onward.

GREECE ELECTIONS. Athens, Greece. Unlike in most other countries, the nation of Greece has not had extensive debates on the blame and origins of the recession. Instead the focus of politics has been upon the escalating war in the Balkans between Russia and their former protectorates. As the war nears Greek borders, there remain some fears of Russia attempted to expand its influence even beyond its former protectorate. The Greek Liberal Party has won reelection based on the past history of maintaining Greeces strength and independence. (+1 Stability)
MILITARY MOVES AGAINST SOCIALISTS IN ENGLAND. London, England. In response to the Socialist Partys new presence in Parliament and blaming them for the recession, the English military has determined to restore the power of the King. The military moved in several English cities, declaring martial law and arresting the leading Socialist Party members. These people have been thrown into prison, denying the rabble someone to rouse them against the militarys move. The heaviest fighting took place within London itself as loyalist elements of the military fought against the reactionaries. Relatively light casualties were suffered, and order has been restored. Under the direction of the military, King Edward VIII has once more been given direct control over the nation, as an absolute monarch. (+2 Stability, -6 Manpower, -1 Infantry Brigade)
SERBS CRUSH REPUBLICAN COUP. Belgrade, Serbia. As Russian troops continue their drives south, the Serbian military has once more made an attempt to oust the monarchy in the hopes of ending the war. The military leadership involved was arrested well before the coup could even begin, causing trouble along the front lines. Fortunately, there was relatively little fighting, just some confusion which could be seen by Russian and Transylvanian troops along the Danube River.
GENEVA CONFERENCE FAILURE. Geneva, Switzerland. Danish attempts to create new protocols on the treatment of prisoners of war and the conduct of war failed miserably this year. A total lack of international interest in the wake of the depression have forestalled any public support for this event. Most nations failed to send any representatives to the conference, leaving the Danish ambassador alone, and any discussion with the few present completed failed to get off the ground.
SWEDES PASS EDUCATION REFORM. Stockholm, Swedish Empire. The Swedish government this year determined to pass a groundbreaking educational reform, teaching mandatory lessons in all three languages within Scandinavia. This move has been met with significant popular resistance in all regions, resenting the dramatic time increased of public schooling. Furthermore, the various national movements have denounced this as an attempt to quell regional differences, and have staged protests in favor of individual national identity. (-1 Stability)
BALKAN WAR. Kiev, Russian Imperial Federation. The Russian military has made a major advance against the armies of the Balkan League, smashing through Moldavian military forces. The success of the battle is attributed to a massive scaled offensive using a large number of tanks to support the advancing soldiers. Though major casualties were inflicted upon the lumbering behemoths, the Russians managed to shatter Moldavian forces north of the Danube River. The capture of the de jure capital of Iasi has led to the creation of the Republic of Romania, a new country established without the monarch to manage the region. A true Romanian government has yet to materialize, but Russian officials promise the first elections and a constitution as soon as the Balkan League monarchial threat is extinguished. Though the Moldavian government remains in the field with a sizeable force, the Danube has been crossed and heavy fighting continues as Bulgarian reinforcements arrive from the south. The Bulgarians arrived fresh from a victory at Constantinople as sheer numbers managed to shatter the Russian army there. With the front lines broken, the Russian garrison was forced to surrender to an army nearly twenty times their size. Further west, Serbia has maintained a strong defensive position along the Danube River, where they maintain a phony war with the Russians and Transylvanians. Only limited fighting has taken place, and minimal casualties.

FRENCH CIVIL WAR. Paris, France. The French Civil War has taken a dramatic new turn. The Battle of Paris, which began last year between the imperialists and socialists quickly resulted in a victory for the socialists, smashing the main imperialist force in the north. Drives from the south by the Lisists sealed the fate of the army, which soon disintegrated into nothing. The socialists and Lisists have begun fighting throughout central France, though the Socialists have retained control of Paris. Belgian forces have arrived from the north, providing the socialists with even more firepower in the ongoing battle. The victory of the socialists has sparked a major change in Frances government. The Imperialists have determined that they are indeed better dead than Red and under pressure from colonial management, have ceded control of their remaining military forces to the Lisist faction. The Lisists have taken in a collaborative government, though the fate of the King and other elements of the government have yet to be determined.

MOROCCO LAUNCHES NEW BATTLESHIP. Casablanca, Morocco. After several years of investment from Morocco and a consortium of other nations, the Moroccan Royal Shipyards have christened the new RMS Atlantic. This vessel has already been brought into production in Morocco as well as several other nations, who have been granted the designs. This new battleship is comparatively equal to the New Englander Victory-class battleship, though it was designed with a coal engine in mind, rather than a petroleum based one.
SUEZ WAR. Baghdad, Virginian Empire. The war between the Western coalition and the Ottoman Empire has continued unabated this year as the fighting escalates with the arrival of German forces. Dutch forces have begun more or less sitting on the sidelines of the conflict, moving into Rashid Arabia to establish their new puppet king on the throne of that nation. Some fighting did take place between the Dutch and the Ottomans with the recapture of Riyadh by the Arabs. See the below article for more information on the situation in Arabia. Virginias army has also withdrawn from the fighting, signing the Treaty of Baghdad with the Ottoman Empire. This treaty has secured a large part of Mesopotamia to the Virginian Empire and guaranteed Virginia control over sections of Persia as well. This has meant that the full force of the Ottomans have been brought to bear against the German advances. Despite this, the German army has managed to penetrate the Ottoman lines and begin driving northward against them. The consolidation of a single front, while meaning victory for the coalition, has allowed a major defensive position to hold against further attacks. Heavy casualties have been inflicted upon the Germans, as tanks are brought in and destroyed by the Ottoman defenders.

TURMOIL CONTINUES IN PERSIA. Tehran, Persia. Events seem to be continuing to spiral out of control in Persia as the nations government is increasingly impotent against a multitude of threats. The warlord of Hormogzan continues to hold his forces together, despite a constant and persistent attack by the government. Baluchestan has managed to also hold their armies together, even fighting minor skirmishes with some Afghani raiding parties. On that note, Afghanistan tribal leaders and warlords have begun moving into Persia, easily brushing aside minor garrisons in the chaos of the region. A large swathe of land has fallen to the Afghanis in their advances. To the west, the Virginians have continued to exploit the failing situation with a drive to the north, securing more land to protect their newfound control over Mesopotamia. The Persian government is beginning to resent these occupiers, as they advance more and more into the region.

DUTCH ESTABLISH NEW ARAB GOVERNMENT. Riyadh, Rashid Arabia. The government of the Arab Federation has at last been replaced by the Empire of the Netherlands. The coalition government of various houses and factions has been determined by the Dutch to be inherently unstable and a new monarchy has been established. The House of Rashid has been placed on the throne, naming the very state after themselves. Emir Saud bin Abdul Aziz is the new ruler of this nation, and has pledged a united front with the Dutch and the coalition against the remnants of the failing Ottoman oppressors. Significant fighting erupted over the creation of the new government as other houses and ideological groups attempted to remove the Rashid family. Dutch military forces were brought in, stabilizing the nation, and retaking Riyadh to legitimatize the new government.

TURMOIL IN REPUBLICAN CHINA. Lanzhou, Republic of China. Various elements of the military have made a bid for power against the republicans once more as victory seems to be soon at hand. The lack of the Korean Empire in China has allowed those who participated in what was effectively an alliance of convenience to once more make bids for power. In the wake of some week-long protests against the nationalist movement, the former warlord of Guangxi, Shi Ao Nu, has once more rallied troops to him in his former province. He has pledged to maintain his power and the power of his supporters in the wake of the new imperialist republican government. Guangxi has separated from China, though pledging assurances of protection to the new Korean and Portuguese cities on the mainland. They have pledged that the fighting will not spill over into those lands.
NEW WARLORD IN SHANXI. Taiyuan, Shanxi. The former warlord of Shanxi, Xue Man Kuang, has been deposed by one of his top lieutenants, Fan Wu Rou, who has taken charge of the government. The new leader has consolidated his power, crushing the opposition which emerged. New leaders have been promoted within the government of the region, and they hope to maintain their strength against the rising force of the Republic of China. (+3 Stability)
KOREANS WITHDRAW FROM CHINA. Nanjing, Swedish Empire. The three year long conflict between the Korean Empire and an alliance of Western powers has come to a close this year. A treaty has been signed ending all Korean support for the imperialist government of China, turning over treaty ports to both Portugal and Korea. Hostilities have come to a close with European forces as the blockade is withdrawn and forces are pulled off the continent. Though warfare continues between the republicans and the imperialists, the era of foreign intervention seems to be at a close.
FIGHTING STILL ISNT DONE IN CHINA. Zhengzhou, Chinese Empire. Despite the end of Korean support for imperialist China, the war still continues unabated. Using republican and Korean built fortifications the Chinese Empire has managed to hold back the republicans. This, combined with major defections within the republican ranks, has allowed the empire to maintain their strength on the field. Limited counter-attacks have been made, but the front has become stalemated as republican generals move to counter threats from the new state of Guangxi as well as the growing militaries of Shanxi and Sinkiang.

If New England can persuade Peru to withdraw from Ecuador and to agree to a peace agreement with Ecuador then we will revoke the declaration of war. We, however, are bound by a military alliance to defend Ecuador if the aggression continues.
To Chile

If Chile is willing to make the rash mistake of accepting a country that is already at war with SUSA into its alliance then that is a mistake Chile will have to pay for. Of course if Chile can persuade Columbia to withdraw from Ecuador and sign peace SUSA will not press the issue.

Why, even nations considered invulnerable have been brought to their knees by this economic trouble. The answer is really quite simple: communism. The red blight of communism which is carving its place in the world. Good people of the world, we cannot allow this boisterous and decadent system to take root, to seize from our hands the value of labor and the might of nations. These radical malcontents would only knock away the foundations of civilization to establish their Communes and Utopias, in the hope that maybe they'll one day turn up efficacy.
