A day in Religion class

Not all Catholics accept the Vatican's word as Gospel? Or even keep up with what the Vatican says?
That sort of makes the whole Pope thing irrelevant then?

Yeah, if you believe in God (not even necessarily that He/She/it/They created the world, although that is the most common) and also accept evolution completely as understood by science, you are a theistic evolutionist.

nd when he claimed that Hitler was a catholic. Hmm.

well, since he was austrian he most likely was...

I'm a Roman Catholic and yet I am a Theistic Evolutionist.

what the hell is that supposed to be???

oh and theres actually an austrian cardinal (schönborn) enforcing ID, he gave an interview to the new york times about it some time ago which caused a little discussion over here....
so, so much for the official view of the catholic church

Their stance on evolution, like their recommendations to Natural Family Planning and voting against laws allowing homosexual marriage, are not stated "from the chair". The Pope has never taken an Infallible stance on these issues; they're just general recommendations by noted Catholic scholars.

How in the world can that be, Even the Vatican accepts that Evolution is valid.

No, Pope John Paul II acknowledged it in his papacy, it was never an official word of the Vatican. But it really switched a lot of Catholics from YEC to Theistic Evolution.

Only dogma needs to be accepted as the word.

Austrian Cardinal < Pope John Paul II. ;)

"Follow" evolution?

That is just about as worrying as imagining that they are YEC.

Regards :).

Darn you and your good English skills.

I did not know that.

Out of pure curiosity, have they accepted the heliocentric theory? I'm not looking to troll, I'm honestly curious.

I sure hope so, I don't think the Church is that far behind.
