A day in Religion class

Well, Hitler was technically a Catholic, as he was raised as such and never formally left the church. Not a very good one, though. His public statements on the matter of religion often seem contradictory; in practice it seems he viewed it mostly as something to be used for political purposes.

He also killed a good deal of Catholics in the Holocaust.

And technically, Hitler was also Jewish, but we won't go there.

Talk about self-loathing Jew! :p

No really wasn't Jewish I think we can be certain. However in WWI didn't a Jewish officer give him the iron cross or something like that?

Wasn't he a Jew under his own definition of Jewishness? (Regarding Jewish grandparents - perhaps a Mischling?)

And aren't threadjacks fun? :D

As I said, not a very good one. But then, killing your co-religionists is par for the course, for mass-murdering despots everywhere.

Not as such. This is a long-standing rumour which hinges on the unknown identity of his paternal grandfather. Hitler's grandmother got pregnant while unwed and working as a servant; the allegation is that she was impregnated by her employer, and that this was a Jewish household. However there is no evidence to back this up, and supposedly Jews were banned from living in the province in question at the time (this would be in the 1830s).

Even if the rumour were true, it would not be sufficient to make Hitler himself "Jewish" by any relevant standards -- it would have been a serious embarrassment, though.

Best post in this thread yet. ;)

I love the Proddie reaction. And the Catholic seems to be a little lacking in intelligence to be frank.

Seriously, I am technically a Catholic, so if I am ever going to believe in God, I'd probably stick to the Catholic Church.

Protestants are too disorganized and fanatical.

One Jewish grandparent would have made someone a 2nd degree Mischling -- not subject to the same degree of persecution as an actual Jew, but ineligible for high military or political office without a special exemption (of which thousands were actually granted).

But, no actual evidence of such ancestry is known, only rumours about who did the nasty with whom, a hundred years before.

And aren't threadjacks fun? :D

'Tis what I'm here for, mostly.

The two things I detest:

Ignorant Catholics and fanatical Protestants.

Swedishguy, at least you can manage to stay half-way awake during your religion class. :) Mine is at 8:00 a.m. and I am mentally sleeping every second of it.

Where'd you get that number? BTW, your ass isn't a source.

He is kind of right, though I do suppose his statistics were extracted from his rectum. There are too many Catholics who don't even know key facts of the life of Jesus. Then there are Protestants who think Catholics are part of some worldwide conspiracy or something. I blame, of course, the parents, who have totally chosen to ignore the chief religious duty - to educate their children in the faith.

Swedishguy, you're on the border of trolling. Be careful.

What?

You're not enthralled by "Generic Poorly Articulated Religion Topic #48"?

Don't put a number on something you don't know. That's all I'm saying.

Meh, If I was going to be religous I would have to be protestant. better to stick to your own culture and catholics are weird.

I live for Generic Poorly Articulated Religion Topics. Seriously. They make my day. :coffee:

(I was referring to his rectally-obtained numerical quote-unquote evidence, which could be thought of as trolling. But hey, I'm still new.)

I think Hitler was Catholic school educated. He got in trouble for smoking and decided he didn't like Catholics after that...

Yeah, we're prone to violence, too.

:)

Protestants are wierder. Young Earth Creationism is almost entirely a protestant phenomenon - Catholicism certinatly doesn't endorse it. Actually, I only need to bring up the fact that the commonly described "nutjobs' of Christianity of today are all Protestant, not Catholic. That's far more surreal then either transubstantiation or Immaculate Conception.
