Getting rid of the nearly unused/dead and unnecessary subboard at the top of All Other Games would be awesome, its nothing but a waste of Space.

Rise of Nations and Spore really have no need to be their own subboard at all and can be completely removed.

I don't think any of the others besides Chess really need one either, but if they are kept then PLEASE move them to the Other Games tab section as they currently take up a ridiculous amount of screen space you have to scroll past to read AoG.

I also don't think that Total War really needs its own subboard, its not very busy and would add some much needed life to AoG.

Having the other busy forum game subboards moved into Other Games is great :)

Half of those just got moved out of other games, moving them back would defeat the whole purpose. I do agree that some of the more inactive forums could be merged, but I'm satisfied with the current layout and don't think its a pressing issue.

Like I suggested earlier, you could probably merge a few of those into "Civ-Related Games" or "Other Games by Sid Meier" or something like that.

Only Galactic Civilizations II and Rise of Nations, both of which definitely do not need their own subforum, and it is a problem because, as this image I made some time ago demonstrates, they take up way too much space:

Also Chess was added, but that would be fine if it was by itself. Like I said, the Other Games change is good, I'm glad those subforums have been moved there and props to the admins for getting that done, but most of the ones in AoG are a waste of space.

^^^^ Your screen shot is not current.

Its not worse though - its the same number of subforums. Now that is not arguing that its good - and some or most of those could very well be just folded into the main AOG forum - although they all do have some reason or other to have their own forums, even if squirreled away somewhere in the bowels of CFC.

But what about moving all the subfora into a new "Other Game Subforums" forum and leaving "All other games without subforums at all - this would create one more category within "Other Games" but otherwise not change much for either forums, except de-clutter "All other Games".

Edit: also: Moderator Action: spoilered the above image

Well clearly if you feel the need to edit in a spoiler you accept how bad it is ;)

IMO, "All Other Games" should be at the top, above NES, and if you could remove all the subcategories like you suggest, that would be better still.

Really though, why can't they simply be folded into AOG? Spore for example has had about 2 threads in as many years.. why does it persist?!

not all are like spore and this being a civilization site its arguable that we should have subfora for other sid meier games or civ-like games around - again this is not a strong argument. I disagree that AoG should be anywhere than the bottom of this category though, the games with their own subfora should be above a miscellaneous category.

As for how bad it is: the image is too large, doesn't have anything to do with how bad the situation itself is. Not everyone uses a large monitor to view threads like this, going out of your way to make things bad for reading a specific thread by posting an overly large unspoilered image is bad form and actually an attempt to ensure discussion doesn't happen by having people just close the thread instead of replying.

I am on a laptop, I HAVE a small screen.
That is the whole bloody point.
That is what I have to scroll past every time.
The image is not large, it is reality.

the image is too large - and no its not reality since in a thread it shows alongside a bunch of other stuff like the Avatar on the left side in addition to what the screen in reality shows - also it does not matter if its the reality (not disputing that its too cluttered) - still it does not make it better to omit the spoiler.

Well if we are not disputing it is too cluttered, then we are in agreement.
BirdJaguar asked for an up-to-date version, i provided one.
Let the discussion progress beyond simple image discussion.
Tsoate, away! :)

Which I do believe I mentioned in my post. Current or not though, it is still completely relevant

The size of the screenshot doesn't really matter that much because the vertical difference is the same regardless of how large the screenshot or your monitor is. As you said, not everyone browses with a large monitor, and seeing how its rather annoying for people with larger (although increasingly common) monitors (Mine is a 22" 1680x1050) its even worse for people with smaller monitors.

Anything to reduce it down to even two subforums would be awesome.

Changing this is under discussion in staff.

And move CivIV Colonization to there so it sticks-out on it's own a little better.:)

[Edit: okay, ori. Thanks for commenting. The positive side of the current location is that Colonization's forum activity appears more active by all the CivIV posts that get put there, lol.]

I put my monitor in portrait mode to take this, the red line is where it normally ends on the screen when I load AoG in landscape. Incredibly annoying and none of those subs seem to have communities that still exist. At least the NES, IoT, Mafia and Forum Games subboards were moved to Other Games, but the Total War and Alpha Centauri subforums feel weird being in there instead of in AoG. The Total War sub should just be merged into AoG as AoG could really use the activity and it is weird having to go to Other Games and then another subboard to discuss it. Alpha Centauri can keep its subforum I guess but it really should be under AoG for easier access.

It is 2015, even with bigger (24" 16:9) monitors it is still too damn big of a space and there are a lot more smaller screens out now too! Phones or tablets or netbooks or small laptops.
