About hot characters in computer games :)

I hate the term "strong woman" because most women are strong in some way or other. "Capable" is more suitable. I prefer to see a female character in a video game able to hold her own with the boys, even possibly in a position of command (equal time, of course), but that is not strictly necessary. If there is a sexual relationship to be had in the game, it should be part of the plot and narrative, and not just there to be gratuitous or titillate. What bugs me are the female characters who contribute nothing and are just there to look at.

Of course I like to look at scantily clad women. I really do. But I draw the line at bikini armor. I mean come on. How unbelievable is that? One good sword hit and she's cut in half. She has to be a darn good swordswoman and shield handler to survive even a casual fight. That breaks immersion, and is rather stupid. But hey, it appeals to the 14 year-old demographic. However, there is an old adage: "Never bring a bikini to a sword fight."

Chainmail bikinis are stupid.

Even as a 14 year old teenager I liked the more realistic depictions. I like a general level of attractiveness vs porn waif/supermodel.

I don't miss the original Lara Croft anyway.

Kassandra from Assassin Creed Odyssey is my digital crush these days.

Kassandra dies though. She laster 2400 years though. That got me along with her eagle being long gone. Poor Ikaros.

She's attractive enough but has most of here clothes on. It's the accent sigh.

Probably my first digitel crush sigh.

Growing up when I did, I'm a sucker for Frank Frazetta's art. His depictions of warriors and others was all about creating visceral emotions in the viewers. His women were both heroes and objects. I was hoping I could find a depiction of his for Red Sonja. No luck though.

In theory, it can be a statement. Analogous to Ajax (Major) denying Athena's offer to protect him in battle, since he thought he is too strong to need a god's protection and only lesser warriors can use that. A warrior wearing a bikini could, in theory, be like that.
In practice, of course, it's never the case ;)

Breaking immersion is a problem indeed.
Male characters are often depicted carrying huge swords or axes they would be unable to lift IRL.

That's changing but yeah 70s and 80s.

You could probably pick up some of those weapons but they're completely impractical

I don't like oversized weapons or oversized boobs in games. Nor do I like cartoony characters.

Oh no, we've arrived are weapons and practicality in video games. Abandon ship!
I blame Zardnaar.

I don't mind busty female characters. Though I do draw the line when they get to ridiculous levels. When I see female characters made by other people that have large boobs wielding sniper rifles, I'm like (while ignoring her arms, hand and weapon cliping into her boob), "How the hell is she going to wield that wile being so Top Heavy Boobs McKenzie?".

I think that the relative impact of indie companies (which range from 1 person/amateur to having a few people, or more than ten) is important in presenting more diverse types of character instead of the stereotypical ones.
It is a tech issue as well - huge companies by now are unlikely to even consider games that aren't full 3d, with full 3d character models with skins. That does make actual creativity/difference between characters rarer (due to technical issues). You will see that many characters are modifications of the same model, just add a beard or some other prop and slightly alter body proportions :)

Change is slow. "We've come a long way, baby!" Lots of folks are impatient and don't recognize how fast changes have come in the last ten years compared to the previous 30. Life is not like ordering from a Wendy's drive thru.
