Alpha Centauri has a planet

New York Times article said:
It could take hundreds of years, but such a mission, Dr. Marcy said, could jolt NASA out of its doldrums.
I rather doubt NASA will still be around in hundreds of years to care about the answers. During that time, we will either have advanced enough to overtake such a probe, or we will have regressed enough that we will either not care, or will have forgotten.

Yeah, those 'trips' of yours…

I went in one of these

Still we have only found one planet with life on it.
Is that really a surprise given that we have only partially explored one solar system so far? Finding a planet orbiting the nearest neighboring star which could likely support life just increased those odds substantially.

What makes you think this must be the only planet orbiting Alpha Centauri?

They have to name a planet around Alpha Centauri Chiron. I'm going to start lobbying the few astronomers I know to make it so.

But is should be reserved for a planet that's actually habitable.

Pseudo-habitable, minimum. The original Chiron did have a toxic atmosphere. ;)

Spoiler :
Fairly sure Cameron stole it from the game when he made Avatar. :trouble:
