The Welsh established colonies in Patagonia. Patagonians still speak Welsh to this day (one of the three dialects the ailing language has).
You're joking I hope.
Edit: wow it's true I just wikied it!

Ive been to Wales ( and loved it) and many Welsh patriots think that soon Wales will be independant from England and have a Prince of Wales who's ACTUALLY WELSH.

BAH! I lol'd

Welsh independence would be a disaster. Wales would be financially completely insolvent, and even if they got the independence, they would probably end up becoming wholly reliant on handouts from someone like the EU. Frankly, the Welsh are in the best situation they could possibly hope for. Their own parliament, with a great deal of autonomy, but don't have to worry about the fact that they are a poor country with not much to support themselves on.

And there were several Welsh kings who sat on the English throne, and let me tell you, most of them weren't that good.

And I do agree, Wales is a very pretty country.

Most Scottish people apparently think that Scotland will be independent. That's unlikely to happen either.

Henry VII was the only Welsh king really. Henry VIII and his children were all technically English. :D

He was a prudent ruler, who left a large treasury and a stable country to his son. That's generally considered a good thing. :)

Scotland might do well as an independent country.Technically, the North Sea Oil should belong to us if Scotland was independent.

Balkanized Britain (but not too Balkanized)

That's not too bad a map. In fact, it looks suspiciously historical. :P

I dont think that anyone in the 1600's would think the newly independant Dutch nation would prosper, how wrong they were
If Britain got stuck in a war the Welsh and Scotts could revolt and be allies while the Irish liberated Northern Ireland

Yeah, but the Dutch also were a fairly well established merchant and trade area dating back to the 12th (?) century with the Flemish Wool trade.
And the Dutch also suffered after the War of Spanish Secession and only really got their act somewhat together after the Napoleonic Wars.

Yes, I know the Dutch aren't nescesarily Flemish, but the geographical area they occupy are quite similar.

The difference being, Celtic, that the Northern Irish are typified by not wanting to be "liberated".

You'd have to have a PoD two and a half thousand years ago at least to end up with a "Celtic" Empire, really. I'm not an expert on peoples of the British Isles, but aren't there some pretty big differences between Scots, Welsh, and Irish people?

The only thing they have in common is hating the English. :D

Unfortunately, each hating a mutual foe does not lend itself well to long-term co-operation.

Netherlands was an extremely rich, heavily populated part of Europe at the time though.

Wales don't compare.

You see,
The Dutch had the wonderful advantage of not being attached to the Spanish mainland.
The Dutch had control of some of the richest trading spots of Europe.
The Dutch enemy, Spain happened to be France, England and the Ottomans.
The Dutch population was not pitifully small nor spread out in many rural farms.
The Dutch was not directly, centrally or strictly, governed by the Spanish.

Wales was incorporated into England.
A Welsh Dynasty ruled England. Followed by a Scottish Dynasty. (The English hasn't ruled themselves since 1066. Norman French...Welsh...Scottish...German...Even more German...)
There was a preference to Protestant English Rule than Papist French/Spanish Rule.
Wales was poor in people and resources.

Now if modern day Britain got stuck in a war, then the Welsh and Scots would defend Britain. Cause Wales and Scotland are part of Britain. They are separated from the English but united as the British. If would have to take some big turd behaviour on the part of the English, say dissolve Scot and Welsh Parliaments and then oppress Celtic culture for Wales and Scotland to rise up against their sister nation.

What we have here, is a case of petty nationalism!

You mean dissolve the Scottish parliament that we recreated and remove the Welsh assembly that we set up?
