I was playing around with some maps that were to the same scale, and I found myself ending up doing this:

And I thought it would be interesting enough to share.

And speaking of superimposed maps - here's Antarctica on Europe & the US !

Why would the Portuguese dishonour their 6-century old alliance with Britain?

Not that it matters in respect with the rest of the map, which I'm not really prepared to comment on, but the British did it first. There was the "Pink Map" incident where the Portugese originally had a British-recognized claim to what would be British Rhodesia, and Britain threatened war over the matter. Cue a fair amount of Anglophobia in Portugal.

Well, our current national anthem originally ended with "against the Brits, march, march!", so that might mean anything.

Though nowadays, instead of saying "against the Brits", it says "against the cannons". :p

Oldtimey maps may not be much use when you're trying to get around or look for places, but they sure have character.

To be honest, that map kinda reminds me of a current day tourist map, all of the important sites blown up (in size), main streets being shown

I think they serve their purpose in that they make it easier to find where one is and in discovering which is the best route to where one wants to go. :)

As for the character part, yeah, they're also very nice because of that, each map is unique and they're never dull. :p
