We use it in science which is where we need it.

That means you have to spend a lot of the time on learning conversions, it also adds an extra level of thinking (radians and degree conversions have caught me out a number of times).

Given that a lab is a closed environment and that measured instruments most probably come in metric, I don't see those conversions.

With the UK working with road speeds in imperial I am assuming there examiners are as mean as ours and enjoy testing that.

I honestly don't remember doing a single conversion between metric and imperial, ever, that wasn't on the internet.
