Ank09 - DI1 Redux - 3CC AW

A saltpeter pillaging expedition is a good idea. I just noticed that the Mongols had to use a colony just south of Bombay to get saltpeter. That could easily be taken.

We'll have to hunt for Gandhi's source. We know he has some since he has a musket at Calcutta. The cats will hammer that musket.

Pre: Lose a knight removing a longbow. 1-1

1425AD: Remove a Keshik from a salpeter colony and pillage it. Kill to muskets in Mandalgovi and raze it. Almost lose our army razing Bombay. We find a small island. 22-9

IBT: --

1430AD: Movement.

IBT: Mongols show a pike.

1435AD: Bring Choybalsan down to one wounded pike. 24-10

IBT: Rider defends vs Keshik. Longbow forces another rider to retreat. 25-10

1440AD: Choybalsan razed. Lose a rider killing 2 longbows and a MDI - getting another Sun Tzu. 26-10

IBT: Rider defends vs Keshik again. 27-10

1445AD: We now have a slave stack that can road and build a fortress on a mountain in 1 turn. That's all.

IBT: Lose a rider against a Keshik. 27-11

1450AD: Kill a Keshik. Hurry a rider. Kill 2 muskets in a town in the fog. There is only 1 wounded musket left. 29-11

Not that a good kill rate, but we made some progress nonetheless. I would chop Canton to get it to more shields without starving.

Joining fronts.

There are cannons covered by muskets on the way north but I don't think they will be needed.

The poulace is happy. Life in China is good.

Great job, Bede.

I doubt we will need to upgrade the cats. We have propably enough troops already to finish this. I hope.

I have also been thinking of doing this again on Monarch. Who all would be in? I'm pretty sure it's doable, we lost Ank06 which was on Monarch but we did some mistakes which cost us.

andvruss, go finish it up! :D

Put me down as a maybe.

I now know that I won't see this again. With Andvruss and Ankka, the Mongols are toast.

Got it.
I think the reason DI1 was harder was our lack of leaders, an unclear goal at the beginning and the fact it was on vanilla Civ.
Will play and post tomorrow.

@ andvruss - I think you are right on all counts. I haven't thought much about the difference between [civ3] and [ptw]

What difference would PTW and Vanilla make? After all, C3C would have been propably easier with the broken armies, but vanilla and PTW are almost the same, only minor differences like MDI's, more civs... but nothing that would make the huge difference.

And our leader luck has been awesome. Almost a leader every 5 turns or so, I'd say. And 3 armies at least, too.

Roster for possible 3CC AWM:

Bugsy - maybe
grs
Ankka

Bede? andvruss? Would you join?

Sign me up, as I think what went wrong in Ank06 was that it wasn't AW.

Since I've had three SGs wrap up in the last week, sign me up.

Shall we play as the Chinese again, or someone else?

lurker's comment: Well, I know it's not *actually* done yet, but it's done. :)

Just wanted to pop by and say congrats. I know I enjoyed the little bit I played.

Good luck on the rematch. ;)

:goodjob:

DI1 we played as Japan. I think the religous trait was wasted.

A scientific civ might be good for the free tech, although if we get the GL, that is pretty much wasted. Germany is scientific, but the UU is so late. We need a MA UU I think.

Let's assume we play on PTW. I think we rule out expansionist and religious civs. If we rule out anything with an AA, IA, or Modern UU we are left with:

France, England, Carthage, Korea, China, and Ottomans. France and Carthage have defensive UUs. Korea and England have useless UUs. So that leaves China and Ottomans.

We may want to change any one of those assumptions. For example, the timing of the UU earlier or later. We may very well be able to spark a wonder-induced GA just like we did in this game.

I understand your reasoning and agree that China and the Ottomans seem optimal. My suggestion was more from my personal idea about what I would like to play soon. I must admit I did not play the "overplayed" Ottomans in any SG  so I think this would be fun too. If we play China its fine with me too, but if this is already in voting stage I vote for the Ottomans.
