Ank09 - DI1 Redux - 3CC AW

4 leaders in 10 turns? Awesome, Bugs! And 3 wonders too... I should have thought of those when I had the leader... wait, HG and GW weren't available then.

We have propably gotten more leaders now than in the whole former 3CC, Ank06.

Once again, very good :hammer:

I was thinking more of wonder denial rather than grabbing culture or some skill, although the extra cash from the Colossus will be nice and the content people in Shanghai are nice.

I was thinking if it gets too hard to get the leader back from Persia, maybe we should just disband him and try for another on the home front.

I am rather amused when I open the save to see our NE ‘stack’. It’s really two swords, two archers, and 2 cats. Oh, and about 30 workers.

IT – Lose a 4/5 horse to a reg horse, 4/0. Sword kills barb, as does a warrior (-2).

660 ad (1) – Kill two horses and a legion at home, retreat a third horse. Kill two spears in Persepolis. I decide to make a mad dash with the leader. If he makes it, great. I can get him home in three more turns. 5-1

IT – I luck out, and two rl units win on defense. India gets Eng. 7-1

670 ad (2) – Sword that was protecting the leader strikes Kolhapur alone and wins. Burn! Kill an interloping horse. Move the army towards the river crossing with some workers. The leader runs into a Persian spear on the way home, and commits Seppuku – or is that another game? Cats miss both at Persepolis, but 4/5 sword won’t be denied. Burn more! 10 – 2

IT – Lose the Persepolis sword in a counter. 10 – 3

680 ad (3) – Kill the archer that took my sword. Also kill an archer and a horse at home. 13 – 3.

IT – I lose a slave. Mongols land a settler pair behind the army. Mono comes in, start on Feud.

690 ad (4) – Everyone got Mono this turn. Kill an archer in Persia. In an unbelievable turn, it takes two vet swords, Ankka’s horse, and a vet horse to kill the Mongol settler pair. Sorry Ankka. :( 14 – 7

700 ad (5) – Bombard a couple units, no battles.

710 ad (6) – Nab a single archer. 15 – 7.

720 ad (7) – Mongols and Rome get Feudalism. Shut off research until we get it too. Kill a sword and an archer at the river. 17 – 7.

IT – Lose a sword to a legion. Feud comes in, start Chivalry in 12 @ -10gpt. 17 – 8

730 ad (8) – It takes two swords to take out a reg spear. Kill a sword and a 3 legs at the river. 22 – 9

740 ad (9) – Elite sword and archer take care of business at Pasargadae, and I play with more matches. 24 – 9

750 ad (10) – At the river, cats go an uncharacteristic 8 for 8. I then slaughter the three swords and a spear I was bombing. 28 – 9

Recap: The Persians are playing OCC. I was going very slow up there to ensure minimal loss of forces. After them, we should push on Mongols and Indians. Rome will be the tough nut to crack. There is a fair number of troops at the river, with reinforcements on the way. You should be able to move forward there in a turn or two. I was not all that worried with the barbs, as much as I was worried about the other civs. Research is running a bit too much deficit, but I’m certain Bede will figure it out. :D

>>>SAVE<<<

Got it.

Nice progress, gents.

Solid!! A Persian OCC! That is the best news I've heard in a long time. Just watch out for that stack of workers!

Following Sesn's instructions apply Bedeian algebra and get Chivalry in 12 at -2gpt. (Hire three scientists, since we lack libraries and and banks scientists only lose us the corrupted gold at Canton and Shanghai and one gold at Beijing but the added three beakers is just enough to drop the slider one notch.

Go check out Persia and discover a pop2 OCC with a horse colony.

Then checkout the NW and find the Indian resurgence.

760AD
Indian spear protecting another pair of slaves defeats our healthy Vet MDI. Second MDI finishes him off and reveals the galley that delivered them.

Slaves start mining plains around Shanghai as the city is long food.

Mongols move swordsmen onto plains in range of healed forces in fortress. Elite attack delivers Bede's Blades. Jin Qiu heads to Shanghai to build Sun Tzu's Academy.

Advance the stack on Arbela.

It would be nice to get the furs colony back into production

770AD-780AD
Chasing off intruders and rebuilding the terrain improvements. Kill another Mongol spear, lose an MDI to a couple of Roman legions.

790AD
Waiting for army to finish healing and move the troops into Arbela.

800AD
Romans and Mongols keep popping up in the NW. There is a stack of MDI, horsemen and swords awaiting the Romans north of Beijing and cats, an army and other assorted troops wating for them to emerge from the forests.

And the Golden Age ends.

810AD
A little rearrangement of the citizenry and and time to Chivalry increases to eight @-5 with 84 in the bank.

Lose an elite sword seeking promotion to wounded vet legion. Second sword finshes him off but no promotion.

It takes all of our cats (who miss) and two swords, an MDI and the army to finish a Mongol spear and sword pair at the fortress.

Arbela falls with no losses but no leader and somehow Xerxes slipped a settler past us and built Sardis to the SE of Arbela on the other side of Byzantium. We get two more workers to add to the slave army.

I can see a Roman iron source to the west of the rubble of Arbela so decide the best thing to do is head that way and scope the territory a little. Send a Roman slave and discover the town is Antium with a regular legion showing as a defender.

The Romans dispatch an MDI to reclaim the slave.

820AD
Send citizens at Canton fishing to raise the gpt and hire a scientist at Beijing to prevent rioting then add an MP to the garrison and put the scientist back to work.

A roman legion had promoted an MDI to elite on the interturn on the road to Beijing. The elite attacks the remaining Roman spearman, the Mace Wielders are born and General Tso appears. He hotfoots it back to Shanghai to build an army when we take Jaipur.

The army in the NE moves onto a hill near Antium.

Cats and Quilong's army move on Jaipur.

830AD
The march on Jaipur is delayed by an Indian spearman and a sword. Lose an MDI to the sword after cat bombardment. The spear falls to a horseman after bombardment.

840AD
Kill the oppostion on the road to Jaipur but lose a horse in the process. Move cats and army in postion to assault the town.

Cats at Antium miss so delay attack.

A settler pair escapes from Jaipur

Lose out galley to a Roman.

850AD
Take Jaipur then realize that with an army in the field that General Tso is without a command....so he hotfoots it to Beijing to build a cathedral...only to discover that Beijing lacks a temple....then decide the whole cathdral project is a waste of time as we have only 65g in the treasury and a 12 point deficit in cash flow....for another 4 turns.

The cats miss at Antium again so the worker army builds a fortress on a hill and everybody hunkers down.

There are more legions emerging from Hyderabad.

Not a good set of turns. The kill ratio was about 1:1 and the economics are not good. We are up against the stumbling block of the 3CC, not enough money to support the troops in the field and and any kind of research effort. We won't have enough in the kitty to do any unit upgrades, when Chivalry comes in.

Roster check:

Cuivienen - MIA?
Ankka - Probably you are up
Sir Bugsy - on deck
SesnOfWthr - on deck
Bede - didn't get very far

Ok, good job Bede.

If we can, I think we should rush a library or something with the leader... or of course, a rider. We have no wonders coming soon AFAIK, and we are getting a fair amount of MGL's, so that isn't a problem...

Rush only expensive units or buildings that are really of use, or of course, any wonder that is available, when we get a leader... until the sword army dies or is disbanded to get a rider army. But I don't think keeping a leader waiting is useful, we have so many elites we will get enough leaders...

I'll wait until tomorrow, if Cuivienen hasn't appeared, I'll play.

I think we should turn research off when we get Chivalry. We will have awesome riders we can use, and won't need anything else until the AI gets rifles, propably. If they ever do. We will hopefully get Gunpowder via the GLib... that would b the thing we need. More isn't needed, hopefully. Let's trust the speed of the riders.
Well, let's start.

850AD [Preturn]: Check to see where we are going.. We could get some 50gpt if research was off. Not bad. 4 turns and we will have Chivalry... and then it's goodbye to the AI. 3 moves and strategic roads will be awesome. :)

All looks good... press enter.

860AD [1]: I think a courthouserush with the leader in Canton would be worth it. The corruption there is bad, and if a court takes it down it will pay back the price it costs per turn.

Hurry court in Canton with General Tso.

Bombard some Legions and Indian swords near Hyderabad.

Elite sword loses to 2-hp legion redlining the enemy.
Elite horse finishes it off.
Vet MID kills 2-hp legion and promotes.
Vet MID kills Indian settler pair, we get 2 slaves.

IBT: Vet MID fends off an Indian reg sword and promotes, but a 2-hp sword kills it.

Canton court > horse. We got 3gpt more with it.

870AD [2]: Bede's Blade is redlined but kills an 1-hp Legion.
Vet MID kills 1-hp sword.

Sci down to 50%, Chivalry still in 2.

IBT: Lose an elite MID to a Roman vet MID.
Elite horse retreats.

Beijing MID > MID.
Shanghai MID > MID.

880AD [3]: Catapults bombard some Mongol and Roman MID's... army loses ~half of it's hp when killing a 3-hp one on flat land...

IBT: The Romans and Mongols could have propably easily killed our army with the MID's they had, and gotten some 10 or so catapults, but they're idiots and don't attack.

We research Chivalry! :yeah: Start on invention at 0% science, lonely scientist in Canton. Over 50gpt. Cool.

890AD [4]: Bombard with the catapults..
Mace Wielders kills a 2-hp MID.
Vet MID loses to 1-hp MID. :(
Vet MID kills a 1-hp MID and promotes.
Elite MID kills 2-hp MID.

IBT: The Army gets down to 1hp when a Roman MID attacks, but wins.

900AD [5]: Bombard the Mongol MID's to 1hp.
Elite MID kills a redlined one.
So does Reckless the Warrior.
And Bede's Horse.

IBT: a MID of ours dies flawlessly to a Mongol one.

910AD [6]: Bombard the incoming MID's..
Vet MID kills reg spear in Hyderabad and get a promotion.
Bede's horse (5-hp) dies when attacking a redlined MID. Sorry Bede. :(

IBT: All enemy troops in sight flee from our forces.

We build our first Rider in Beijing!

920AD [7]: Lose 2 MID's when attacking 2 reg spears in Hyderabad.

IBT: Lose an MID to a Roman one.

Shanghai rider > rider.

930AD [8]: Bombard a lot... Hyderabad isn't damaged enough to attack. Or the troops in it, actually.

Our first rider kills a MID.

IBT: The army kills off one MID, but a second one kills it. :( Well, now we can build one for riders when we get a leader..

Canton rider > rider.

940AD [9]: Upgrade a horse to a rider. All but one cat miss at Hyderabad.

Rider kills 2-hp MID.
Elite horse kills 4-hp MID.
Bede's Blades kill 2-hp MID.

Upgrade another horse at Shanghai.
And a third one at Beijing.

IBT: A vet spear in the Fortress NW of Shanghai kills off 2 MID's and promotes.
Lose Bede's Blades to an attacking Roman MID.
Lose a vet MID to a Roman one.
A rider retreats.

950AD [10]: Some cats hit at Hyderabad. Still not enough, though.
Vet rider kills Roman legion that landed just south of Beiing.

Lose an elite horse to a MID.

The turns were awful. The kill ratio was propably like 1-50. The only good things are that our budjet is good and we have several riders almost at the front. They are fast and awesome. They will save us, hopefully. We have been lacking a better defence unit at the front, one or two pikes would have done miracles when defending, but we had none.

Next better player.

Sir Bugsy - UP!
SesnOfWthr - on deck
Bede
Cuivienen - MIA?
Ankka

REMEMBER: 24h to post a "got it", total 48 to post turnlog and save.

I have it. A unproductive weekend. Had to start teaching my 15 year old how to drive.

Shameless Plug Section – The latest epic over on RBCiv is an AW game, Emperor, large map, played on vanilla 1.29. It is sponsored by our very own Sirian.

Pre-flight – 950 AD – This game is moving nicely. Put the scientist back to work and move science to 10%. By MMing our cities we can get some increased production.

We had Persia on the ropes and we’ve let the X-man back up.

IBT – Lose an MDI to a Roman MDI. Kill a Roman MDI and an Indian MDI.
Beijing: Rider (I’m just going to keep building riders, so assume that what I’m building.)

1. 960 AD - @ Hyderabad – Cats take one HP off the defenders. Kill one spear with a rider, another with an MDI and the Reckless kills the defending archer and the city autorazes.

Kill a Roman MDI. Start sending some riders up the NE road. (6-1)

IBT – Retreat from an Indian MDI

2. 970 AD – Kill the Indian MDI.

IBT – Shanghai: rider

3. 980 AD – Bombard and kill a Roman MDI. Upgrade a spear for 20G. (8-1)

IBT – Kill a Roman MDI, lose an MDI to a Roman. (9-2)

4. 990 AD – Kills: Roman MDI, two Mongol MDIs.

IBT – Kill Roman MDI, Lose MDI to Indian MDI. (13-4)

You know, when I first started playing SG's, we barely finished my first game. The dropouts we had really left a bad taste in my mouth. As such, I have made it pretty clear that I abhor skips/dropouts, and pride myself on never being skipped (other than vacations) in my time on these boards (although I have certainly delayed a time or three). Curious how sometimes one must become that which he loathes, huh?

When I came home from work tonight, I was informed that the relationship I have been in for the past four years was crumbling. Unfortunately, the time I spend on Civ/SG's is one of the reasons.

As such, my time for civ will be severely limited in the coming weeks while I tend to more important things. While it is possible I could perhaps keep my obligation in one or two games, it doesn't feel right to pick and choose which one(s).

Therefore, it is with great remorse and my most sincere apologies that I must request to be put on auto skip in all games, effective immediately. Hopefully I will still be able to lurk a bit, and maybe even contribute here and there (especially from work).

If things get smoothed out quickly, then I will request to be added back in to rosters, at the hosts' discretion. I am not terribly optimistic though.

Once again, apologies to all. :(

Wiz, we might want to advertise for a fourth or fifth since it is just you, me and Bede left.

Sorry to hear that Sesn, RL is a real problem sometimes... Good luck.

I'll advertise. Let's hope we get someone at least as good as Sesn. :)

Short Update - We have now eliminated all but three of our opponents. We are facing India (Almost at War Elephants), Rome, and Mongolia (Almost at Keshiks). Although the WE is just a glorified knight and the Keshik isn't as good as a knight.

We have riders... lots of riders.

The land mass is shaped like a donut. Our three cities are on the southern part of the donut. The main battle is being fought up the western portion of the donut, but we have been circling up the eastern portion and hammering away at the AI.

Progress is slow in the west and fast in the east, since the AI has been sending almost all of their units down the western leg. As a result you can circle around and get in their kitchen and raise all sorts of havoc.

I have three turns left. I will post screenshots with the save.

Well I lost my log from turn five and six. So trying to dredge up information from my brain, here’s what I remember:

ANK09_-_Persia_Destroyed.jpg

That happened in 1010 AD.

In 1020 AD – Lahore was razed to the ground. Brundesium was razed to the ground.

Presently Rome has 14 cities, India is at five, and Mongolia has 12.

1030 AD – The Roman city of Palmyra is autorazed.
Kills: Indian spear, Roman MDI. Enslave two Roman workers.
Losses: Rider to Roman MDI.
India has a new city to the north.

1040 AD – Form a gems colony. Attack a redlined Roman MDI and…

ANK09_-_1040_Leader.jpg

Can you say “Rider Army?”

1050 AD – The AI are avoiding our fort in the middle of the forest. India resettle the Lahore location with Chittagong. The Mongols dropped off an MDI next to Canton. We lose an MDI, but kill it with a sword. Kill a legion in Lugdunum and Byzantium.
Kills: Indian MDI,

After Action – Beijing can be MM to get a Rider every three turns. Turn one get 24 USPT with the loss of one food, the other two turns. Shanghai can likewise be accelerated.

I started sending our stack of slaves back from the NE. They have a sword escort. The Eastern road is swarming with barbs. They will graciously upgrade our units as they pass through to the front.

Here is the NW front:
ANK09_-_1050_NW_Front.jpg

The red lines are the various paths the AI is sending their units. We need to bring our stack of slaves around and build forts at the light blue dots.

We will also want to start building catapults again to put in those forts. The idea is to fight a holding action here (THE ANVIL)

Here is the NE Front:

ANK09_-_1050_NE_Front.jpg

(The HAMMER) I think we need to gather two forces of riders. One north and one south. There is a blocking force in the center looking for settler pairs. The idea is that we will only conquer this area one more time. We methodically advance and raze everything in our path.

We may want to take a few shots at capturing a city so we can get an army. I failed on my first attempt.

We have a strong army compared to India, average to Rome and weak to Mongolia.

We presently have 10 riders and 12 catapults. So we’ll need more of both.
