Ank12 - A little Furball? - 3CC AW Redux

1794AD [2]: CHINA AND GREECE ARE AT WAR!!!!! :dance: :dance: [party] :band:

That should slow them down... hopefully.

IBT: Minor Chinese landing... 2 units. No big deal.

1796AD [3]: Bombard and kill them. No losses.

1798AD [4]: Bombard and kill a Chinese ship. (3-0) Make a mismove and we might lose a frigate..

IBT: Amazingly, we only lose 2 ships in a huge seabattle where we sank at least 5 to 8 Chinese frigates. :D (10-2)

2 cavs land.

1800AD [5]: Clear the area of Chinese... apparently there were 3 cavs. Even though the aimers of our cannons seem to have been :smoke:ing, we lose no cavs.

I brought the fleet back home to recover from the battle and from there decide where to go... China or Greece. I couldn't decide. China could be good. That would require bringing the troops from the East back West... which won't take long with our road network which exceeds that of the Romans...

Sir Bugsy would be up..

War on the other continent and the Chinese fleet sleeping in Davey Jones' locker, couldn't ask for anything more.

Pre-flight – 1800 AD – I note that the Muscovites are learning to speak Greek. Cathy is being very sporting and playing a 3CC with us. I also note that Cathy’s power curve is starting to take a dive. So there have been at least two recent wars on the other continent. It appears the Russo-Greek war is still in progress. Greece and China are communist. I study the map and develop a campaign strategy.

Our previous strategy was based on Russia being the weaker of the opponents. However, we were still subject to attacks from the other powers. Since China and Greek are probably still at war, we would only face attacks from Chinese, plus that would also open up a second front for China. There is an isthmus at Chengdu that should be much more defensible once we get there.

I will plan on making our initial landing just north of Hangchow. That is six turns from Susa , and only two turns across the channel.

IBT – We sink two Chinese frigates and lose a galleon to a third. (2-1)

1. 1802 AD –

IBT – Persepolis: cav=>cav

2. 1804 AD – Repairing the fleet, filling the holds with provisions, scouring the countryside with a press to man our navy. Science up 10% to take a turn off ToG.

IBT – A Greek cav/settler pair is dropped off to the west.
Susa: frigate=>galleon

3. 1806 AD – Add two slaves to our collection. Our fleet sets sail for the Orient. (3-1)

IBT – ToG=>Steam We enter the IA. We learn Nationalism of course.
Pasagardae: cav=>rifle

4. 1808 AD – Science comes down to minimum for a few turns.

IBT – Persepolis: cav=>cav

5. 1810 AD – Upgrade a musket. Kiev has fallen to the Greeks.

IBT – Susa: galleon=>galleon

6. 1812 AD – With no foreign vessels in sight our new galleon sails for the landing zone.

IBT – A Chinese settler pair is dropped off.

7. 1814 AD – Our cav is redlined, but we add two more slaves to our workforce. Upgrade another musket. Our invasion force lands next to Hangchow. It consists of three muskets, 13 cavs, and eight cannon. Here’s the situation for all you lurkers out there:

ANK12_-_1814_AD.JPG

IBT – The only counter is a single bombardment from a Chinese frigate.
Pasagardae: rifle=>rifle

8. 1816 AD – Mao must have whipped Hangchow and drafted, because it went from pop 7 to pop 4. Our artillery kills a citizen and wounds two defends. We lose one cav killing the four defenders (three rifles and a LB) A Galleon is sunk. And we capture the city. Cyrus builds an army, then Hangchow is abandoned.

IBT – Once again the Chinese bombardment is the only counter.
Persepolis: cav=>cav
Susa Galleon=>cav
The Greeks wisely start building a theatre for Shakespeare. Greeks complete ToE.

9. 1818 AD – Begin marching to Tatung. Set up the second wave.

IBT – A Greek mini (2 IC & a galleon) fleet sails up the Chinese east coast. It draws the fire of the Chinese frigate.

10. 1820 AD – Continue the march on Tatung. The second wave sails along with our army. Cathy is down to a single city. This will be a three way fight very soon.

After Action – Load up the army with cavs once it gets to the front. I suppose I could have done a little of that back on our mainland.

Here’s the situation:

I’d move the main force to red dot to join up with the reinforcements offshore. Soon we may not need the cannon. For the time being we may want to keep the main force together.

The Chinese aren’t completely hurting yet. They still have +38gpt cah flow and 714G in the bank. Hitting their smaller towns will affect their economy. There is still a long ways to go on this one, but it is now a winnable game.

If we get any slaves, keep them with the cannon. We may need to build some forts.

If Tatung has a barracks, keep the city long enough to upgrade the muskets.

good work with the successful landing!

i doubt tatung will have rax, there are few chinese vet units. we should up science again to get steam ASAP. altough rifles wouldn't hurt, research seems more important to me, we can ship some defenders.

everything seems to go well against the chinese. the hard part with the greek infs is still in front of us...any idea where the rubber is? i don't think we can disconnect it without seeing rubber. (so in 120 turns :D)

Bravely done, SirB.

Got it. Play tonight.

Yay... this is starting to look doable again, although Greece will be the toughest enemy with their infantries and huge land area.

Awesome landing and stuff... and we got our army finally into work.

1820-24

Positioning for Tatung.

In 1822 Greece wipes out the Russians.

In 1824 destroy the barracks during shelling so no upgrades there. Kill three rifles and a longbow, take the city, no casualties (4-0)

In 1826 Greeks land a single cavalryman. Kill it. (5-0)

Load the army and begin the march on Shanghai

In 1828 position on Shanghai and our galleon defeats a Greek ironclad. (6-0)

In 1830 Kill two riflemen at Shanghai, keep the barracks and upgrade our muskets, then abandon the city.

In 1832 move into China, destroying roads on their dyes, kill a Chinese rifleman and capture two more slaves. Start building a fortress with them while the army heals up. 7-0

Kill two Chinese longbows with recon cavalry 9-0

In 1834 start the march on Beijing.

In 1836 a Chinese longbow attacks our recon cavalry and one dies. Recon pillages Chinese horses 10-0

In 1838 cannon clip two defenders at Beijing. Third retreats a cav. Fourth retreats a cav. Then dies to a cav. Next cav retreated by unwounded defender. Seige continued 11-0

In 1840 lose a frigate to a Greek frigate 11-1. Chinese attack cavalry and retreat one. Kill one Chinee 12-1

Then kill another 13-1

The Siege of Beijing:

Ank121840.jpg

Cannon are aimless at Beijing. Seige continued, bringing in reinforcements from north.

Persepolis is building a cathedral to relieve unhappiness requiring a full garrison, and Susa a Frigate to replace the one lost to the Greeks.

In 1842 our gunners clearly need reinforcement. Cannon go 1 for 8 taking a single hp off Chinese rifle. Rested gun crews (5) are heading in from east. Wounded cavalry are heading north.

In 1844 kill another Chinese longbow. Gunners again go 1-8 but new crews are arrived so will see if thirteenis the charm 14-1

In 1846 gun crews are slight more successful scoring 3-13, killing citizens, destroying the barracks and taking a sinfle hp off the vet rifle.

Chinese rifle retreats advancing cavalryman, his wingman kills it 15-1

Greeks take Chnegdu on the road to Beijing.

In 1848 lose a cav in the assault on Beijing, but finally kill the stubborn defending rifle and another leader is spawned. Achaemenes stays with his troops for now, and nine cavalry are retreated killing six Chinese defenders. Tenth cavalryman finishes the last Chinese longbow in the town and there is smoke on the tundra. 22-2

Ank121848.jpg

In 1850 kill two more Chinese longbows after losing a cav to one. Then make a tactical withdrawal to the hills above the tundra where the slaves are building a road and then a fortress. 24-2

Tactical Withdrawal:

Ok... good job hammering Mao.

Greece has the ishtmus... will be a tough nut. we need to get it. If we do, we'll have at least one more easy to defend place...

Those leaders are kinda useless... with us having an army.

El_filet up.
Andvruss on deck

A hardy "well done" goes out to the Abbott and his men.

It would be interesting to gage the strength of the Greeks. We may want to consider a landing of a few rifles behind the lines. If the Greeks turn out to be too strong, we can set up a nice gauntlet like we did in our Regent 3CC AW game. on our side of the isthmus.

1850 AD (0):
disband 2 outdated units
hire scientist and set research to 0
plan to destroy tsingtao to get rid of culture (if the greeks don't do that for me) and concentrate on greeks afterwards

1858 AD (4):
raze tsintao for 117g (maybe i raze another chinese city...) + buildings

1860 AD (5):
in vanilla an army couldn't pillage? that's it with my planned pillaging campaign.

IBT:
xinjang falls to greeks
athen builds shakes

1862 AD (6):
lose 2 cav promoting a 1HP inf :(

IBT:
we lose an iron colony (exhausted)

IBT:
chinese found bejing

1866 AD (8):
lose cav liberating 102g
cannons hit bad (~2/15) on inf in chengdu (greek)

1868 AD (9):
cannon hits halved

1870 AD (10):
final assault on chengdu: 5 hits, 2 defenders; raze chengdu & bach for 46g
lose escorted galleon along with 2 cav&cannon :(

notes:
avoid coast squares if possible, lot of greek clads N of continent (going W, on choke on turn 7)
mainly produced cavs, but cannons may be more useful
greeks captured chinese capital too, units with movement left in case next player wants to attack nanking to get some chinese money

Hm... not bad, I guess. As long as we progress it's ok. The problem won't be China but Greece... Russia will propably be an easy catch after that.

"In 1822 Greece wipes out the Russians."

This is down to 1.5 civs against a 3CC civ. The odds have gotten much better.
