Pre-flight 1800 AD I note that the Muscovites are learning to speak Greek. Cathy is being very sporting and playing a 3CC with us. I also note that Cathys power curve is starting to take a dive. So there have been at least two recent wars on the other continent. It appears the Russo-Greek war is still in progress. Greece and China are communist. I study the map and develop a campaign strategy.
Our previous strategy was based on Russia being the weaker of the opponents. However, we were still subject to attacks from the other powers. Since China and Greek are probably still at war, we would only face attacks from Chinese, plus that would also open up a second front for China. There is an isthmus at Chengdu that should be much more defensible once we get there.
I will plan on making our initial landing just north of Hangchow. That is six turns from Susa , and only two turns across the channel.
IBT We sink two Chinese frigates and lose a galleon to a third. (2-1)
1. 1802 AD
IBT Persepolis: cav=>cav
2. 1804 AD Repairing the fleet, filling the holds with provisions, scouring the countryside with a press to man our navy. Science up 10% to take a turn off ToG.
IBT A Greek cav/settler pair is dropped off to the west.
Susa: frigate=>galleon
3. 1806 AD Add two slaves to our collection. Our fleet sets sail for the Orient. (3-1)
IBT ToG=>Steam We enter the IA. We learn Nationalism of course.
Pasagardae: cav=>rifle
4. 1808 AD Science comes down to minimum for a few turns.
IBT Persepolis: cav=>cav
5. 1810 AD Upgrade a musket. Kiev has fallen to the Greeks.
IBT Susa: galleon=>galleon
6. 1812 AD With no foreign vessels in sight our new galleon sails for the landing zone.
IBT A Chinese settler pair is dropped off.
7. 1814 AD Our cav is redlined, but we add two more slaves to our workforce. Upgrade another musket. Our invasion force lands next to Hangchow. It consists of three muskets, 13 cavs, and eight cannon. Heres the situation for all you lurkers out there:
IBT The only counter is a single bombardment from a Chinese frigate.
Pasagardae: rifle=>rifle
8. 1816 AD Mao must have whipped Hangchow and drafted, because it went from pop 7 to pop 4. Our artillery kills a citizen and wounds two defends. We lose one cav killing the four defenders (three rifles and a LB) A Galleon is sunk. And we capture the city. Cyrus builds an army, then Hangchow is abandoned.
IBT Once again the Chinese bombardment is the only counter.
Persepolis: cav=>cav
Susa Galleon=>cav
The Greeks wisely start building a theatre for Shakespeare. Greeks complete ToE.
9. 1818 AD Begin marching to Tatung. Set up the second wave.
IBT A Greek mini (2 IC & a galleon) fleet sails up the Chinese east coast. It draws the fire of the Chinese frigate.
10. 1820 AD Continue the march on Tatung. The second wave sails along with our army. Cathy is down to a single city. This will be a three way fight very soon.
After Action Load up the army with cavs once it gets to the front. I suppose I could have done a little of that back on our mainland.
Heres the situation:
Id move the main force to red dot to join up with the reinforcements offshore. Soon we may not need the cannon. For the time being we may want to keep the main force together.
The Chinese arent completely hurting yet. They still have +38gpt cah flow and 714G in the bank. Hitting their smaller towns will affect their economy. There is still a long ways to go on this one, but it is now a winnable game.
If we get any slaves, keep them with the cannon. We may need to build some forts.
If Tatung has a barracks, keep the city long enough to upgrade the muskets.
