Apocalypse Now

What does the rest of the team say? Can we throw the liberalism race in favor of war techs?

... Are you serious? This is a war Succession Game. We are Tokugawa. The world is full of ripe targets. And the title is "Apocalypse Now"... Ofcourse. We can delay Liberalism until after Industrialism if that is possible.

 Sometimes liberalism is a way to reach industrialism faster you know... but I loved the spirit! :)

Another quiet turnset, a typical calm before the storm. Not for the Japanese people - they were whipped, whipped and whipped again - but yes, not much happened. Wang founded Taoism, we discovered CS, and we built, chopped, and whipped as much elephants and catapults as we could manage.

We managed to get MC from CS: unfortunately, that was all I could get for CS on the military path. No Feudalism, no Machinery.

On another note, I hate Wang Kon and monoreligious happy continents where every single tech immediately seems to become public domain knowledge. I also hate the rest of the greedy bastards because nobody could spare a dime for the poor beggars that we are at the moment. To be honest, I expected that kind of greed from Joao... but not from the rest of them. (I of course didn't ask Ramesses... what if he accepted and we couldn't declare war???)

Silly Ramesses, oblivious to the storm that will be coming. Building the Great Library instead of troops...

Thankfully there's positive news as well. We now have an army.
Civ4ScreenShot0041.jpg

We have 0,8 of Rammy's strength but I'm sure he has no SoD to speak of because he's got two important military techs on us and garrisons each of his cities with 3 troops. And, as usual he's been building wonders, not troops. He built the GL in Memphis, so that city goes on our to-conquer list as well. We do need to hit ASAP, however. I don't like how close he is to Engineering. Luckily nobody has that tech already so there's no risk of him getting it in a trade.

Diamondeye... give 'em hell. ;)

 I love the fact that we're about to declare war on a civ with almost double our score. We also need to make sure none of the other AI can be bribed against us. Although I'm pretty sure they all won't declare at pleased with the exception of DeGaulle, who we should bribe if possible.

Thankfully a large part of Ramesses' score is wonders. Wonders, as you might recall, don't do much good in a war except to provide incentive to conquer ;)

We might be able to guarantee peace with De Gaulle by kindly asking for money (didn't try him yet as he was bankrupt as well ) or indeed just outright bribing him to war.

Nice '-4' happiness because of slavery Paulus .
Not a lot to add really as you said everything already :).
Declare, bribe DG, go for the 2 bordering cities, Memphis and Thebes. We need to figure out in which order though.
We will got a scientist in 7 turns, I guess the best thing to do is to take philo and trade it around (Wang already has it)... what do you think?

Roster duty:

Diamondeye -> next whipping boy
Rolo -> on deck

Cheers

Bulbing philo will probably give us machinery and feudalism. Both nice war techs  I normally don't like trading philo because it speeds up the liberalism path for the AI. But I doubt we're going to get it anyways (unless we cripple Ramesses) so we might as well go for it.

I think the city order is Memphis -- Thebes. Unless the garrison at Memphis is too large in which case we should go for Thebes directly. We really want to hit him before he gets engineering + castles. Speaking of which, how many EP do we need on him before we can see his research?

Dunno for now (can't access the save)... but remembered that EPs were not focus on Ramses... we should do that before playing any more turns... :)

Yeah, I found that one by searching "Samurai Battle Music" and I got a game called Samurai Warriors 2. Never played it, but it looked pretty cool. I think it's an offshoot of the Dynasty Warriors series by Koei.

Perhaps you will like this one better:

Now there's a classic Japanese battle theme for you .

hum I didn't realize at first, but none are one of our border cities... it would be problematic for reinforcements. So Heliopolis -> Memphis -> Thebes?

Cheers

edit:

FF6 ... not the idea I had of martial music...

Sorry wrong city. We want Heliopolis -- Thebes. Basically we want to take the quickest route to Thebes because that's the real prize of the war. It'll probably solve our gold issues.

Good point, but if we can take Memphis (grabbing it early can perhaps give us another GP before lib is gone) and all what Egypt has to offer though :mischief:

edit: I won't be around until next Monday so I let you guys crush Ramses ;) Have fun!

:crazyeye: This game is wicked;
Checklist for this turnset:
Declare war on an AI that has almost double my own score.
Invade two of his cities with catapults and war elephants against lbs and pikes.
One of the cities must be the Buddhist shrine deep in his lands.

Okay, let's see how well I fared...

Civ4ScreenShot0547.jpg

First, AP vote. As Ramesses is our enemy (well not yet), I vote for Joao...

Civ4ScreenShot0548.jpg

To no avail! Ramesses is elected buddhapope.

Now, people, don't scold me, but I had a minor issue with a War chariot... So, well, uhm... Nidaros, remember? Defended by an axe, mhm? Well, Ramesses took it for a single turn before my elephants arrived, so it might lack some buildings...

That said, I went into a rage and marched straight on Thebes! Despite 3 pikes and a pair of Longbows, I only lost catapults (even my medic attacked), and next turn, the city had two mounted units left for defence... So:

Civ4ScreenShot0549.jpg

Mission accomplished! Thebes is now in Japanese hands!

Some small overview:
Tech done: None. I continued on Machinery, but as you can figure from the next pic, our economy is not exactly brilliant...
Civ4ScreenShot0550.jpg

Ramesses will give 130 gold for peace as per now, so I think we're broken his spine (if he ever had one, that pesky wonderbuilding peacemonger!).

I took the liberty of establishing a small frontier to the south:
Civ4ScreenShot0552.jpg

And our troops at Thebes:
Civ4ScreenShot0551.jpg

So uhm, guys, should we take more Ramessesland or stop now and start the ditchdigging?

 Mahabodi is worth 35 gpt! I think that alone will fix our economic woes. I would like to take Giza and Memphis before we take peace as those cities are going to become culture issues otherwise. Once we take those two cities, I think we can take peace, although there's a good chance Ramesses will vassal to somebody else.

Of course if an AP vote to stop the war comes up, I would vote no and then agree to peace with Ramesses as it's not worth the unhappiness in our Buddhist cities. There's also the possibility of Ramesses converting to Christianity, which would solve most of our relationship issues.

PS. Uppsala should whip its courthouse. Otherwise the war looks good.
