Ask A Bulgarian

we are Turks 'cause we are Turks . It's that simple and it somehow still trumps Turks are actually one of 36 nationalities of the Anatolian Peninsula . And the current Bulgarian feeling is "'Cause they need to deploy their 20+ Armoured Divisions in 'Air Defence Extension' while marching onto Bruxelles."

this last relates to "Why would anyone want to possess your country?"

No, not really. Currently, our dear "nationalists" are more about expulsing the gypsies that will inevitably take over in 2050, and also raid a mosque from time to time. Tradition, you see.

And no, marching into Brussels or anywhere with several armoured divisions does not ever end well for anyone. So, in the end, can't we just stare at each other with contempt through our borders but never actually do anything? As we always did for the last 50 years?

told ya , it's not against you . But to ask for free pass or something will merely rile you into repeating the Belgium thing in 1914 .

Besides, there's much better places to attack than Sofia. Like, Athens, or maybe Skopje (the Small Athens, but with poor people). Also, why Brussels? There's much more important targets. Like, say, any city in the U S of A.

42% percent of 100 dollars isn't actually that much. Statistic can be so much fun!

:rotfl:

Also: i don't care if Turkey or a successor sultanate takes over Athens, as long as we get Eastern Thrace/Constantinople and parts of Ionia back ;)

Athens has around 1 million central asian muslim illegals anyway (iirc mostly from Pakistan/Afganistan and other prosperous regions of that type).
Besides, it is by far the ugliest thing in this country, apart from a small epicenter (the acropolis and immediate region around it).

Unfortunately, giving Constantinople back would block the invasion path to Brussels. And that would be a pity for all Turks that want to raze and salt this evil city, I'd guess.

Deraaaaaail!

But my bet would be that they got slaughtered by whatever conqueror was passing by.

When it comes to ethnicit-ies/-y of early Bulgars:

Yaqut ibn-'Abdullah al-Rumi al-Hamawi (1179–1229) called the capital of Volga Bulgars - Bulgar - "the city of Slavs".

Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari called Volga - "the Slavic River". He wrote around years 914 - 915.

Persian 10th century explorer Ahmad ibn Rustah wrote that Itil (Volga) "flows through the lands of Khazars and Slavs".

Ahmad ibn Fadlan, a 10th century Arab traveller, called the ruler of Volga Bulgars - "the Tsar of Slavs (Sakaliba)".

Ali Ibn al-Athir, when describing Volga Bulgars, wrote: "this nation trace their origins to Turks and Slavs".

Mentioned Yaqut al-Hamawi wrote that in Aleppo he met students from Volga Bulgaria, who had "fair skin and blond hair".

Bulgars who crossed the Danube River came from Volga Bulgaria. So the conclusion is that they were already a mixture of Slavs and Turks when they came there. The old theory that Proto-Bulgars were "pure Turks" when they crossed the Danube is wrong. Their name also indicates this, as Earthman wrote.

Again, as I've said before, the conclusion for the origin of Bulgars lies in the following sentence:

"We have no bloody goddamned idea.".

And does it matter?

Yes. One will cause Bulgaria to be annexed by Turkey and the other by Mother Russia. Pick your poison, and say HELLO.

Right. OK.

But why not say "Don't know" and leave both Russia and Turkey in a bit of a quandary?

Seems to have worked for the Bulgars so far.

Do Bulgarians nod and mean "no" and shake their heads left and right to mean "yes"?

What was life under communism like ? Was there food, electrical and clean water shortages and problems, did you have to queue up for western goods ? Did everyone have money but nothing to buy ?
