Aspiring Rapper's MAFIA- Game Thread

Probably because people like to think all the time they put into analysis produces an opinion that is significantly better than random, when it's actually not. Otherwise scum would never win.
It's actually possible to nail all (or almost all) scum D1.

The games that are linked are prime examples:

It happened for me in terms of reads in Pick Your Poison. I had all 3 scum as scum when I came into the thread.

It happened for town in the Mafia game I just won a few weeks ago. They nailed 2/3 D1. They just didn't get me.

There's a lot of scum lynching day 1. There is value to D1. Anyway, this argument is semi pointless irt game solving, but please don't just leave your vote up to rand because lold1. That's not how it works.

So now I know the pain of those who have complained the thread is too large. There's probably a couple of things I didn't catch up.

but anyway:

What do y'all mean high posters?

I was defining it off the people over about 30 posts.

Basing it off of how obviously you changed reads and buddied. I will keep your comment in mind if one of you flips scum.
I'm pretty sure we tunnel each other only as v/v.

As I said before, if you think changing reads is inherently bad/scummy, uhhhh, lolu, you're wrong. If I'm wrong, why shouldn't I reevaluate?

Your point?

The way you did it was scummy

and I never said you couldn't be v/v

i just don't think you are, honestly.

I never said D1 was useless, I said it was a crapshoot. I never said I'm voting random or that people should vote random, I said any cases brought forward are likely flawed/wrong because they're based on so little. How often do you see d1 cases last for multiple rounds? All the flak I'm getting is just grandstanding.

There's also things like the turbo the other day.

the term sounds to me like "high quality poster"

which doesn't really fit for Visorslash and Glossysushy HA

unlike my posts which are pure gold

they see me hatin' no wait

Oh no you don't. Present a case, with quotes, and don't just (at least seem to) sponge a read from someone else.

Cuth seems to be holding back, I have a not-vanilla lean here, am aware of the possibility of a minor power role though. Hard to call. Possible lynch, but feel there is a few better choices.

I don't believe you are a vanilla townie, as per this post.

I'm not sponging a read. If you can't see it, or notice any possible reasoning, that is not my fault.

Like, a recap?

I moved off Visor because I had gotten the reactions I wanted. My opinion is that at least some opportunistic scum were still on his wagon when I moved off.

Landlubber actually looks really bad for moving off at this exact time. The timing is bad, as I said before about the timing of her vote on visor, but the reasoning is acceptable. Don't know why, but the vote moving just seems opportunistic/moving along to thread consensus.

More votes on Cuth, more on me. Less on Visor. Some people starting to scum read you.

People complaining about D1 and about the high amount of posts.

More people starting to show up. What else did you miss?

Yeah, I agree. Getting a few bandwagons going is ideal for Day 1, doesn't really matter on who. What matters is that people will have to choose one over the other(s), and that choice can be meaningful for later analysis. Any reads at this stage have a huge margin of error. A lot of scum tend to lurk around until the end of the day before actually placing a vote, and forcing them to make their vote have a meaningful impact in the lynch is huge.

That said, my bandwagon is the best and everyone should join it.

But saying that it doesn't matter who?

No, don't think so. Considering the fairly good rate of scum lynching happening d1, if you just say "oh, we can lynch anyone", experienced scum can easily set up mislynches every game.

are you seriously voting me because you don't think I'm vanilla? :p

Imagine 13 of me, but 100x worse at the game :p

Oi.

Activity--

Speaking only for myself, if the thread continues to be like this, I don't know if it will be possible for me to be effective as town. Amount of posts to amount of time I'll have to keep up with/catch up on those posts means it's very possible I'll end up having to vote based on merely skimming the thread, which is not acceptable. Even now, having been able to read everything attentively, many of the details from early on in the day are blurring together.

In my experience and opinion, a small number of high content posts are more valuable to town than a high volume of small posts.

This is gospel.

Okay so in terms of reads:

Spoiler :
I still remember you wanting to make me a serial killer with no kill. :p

Anyway, I figure my desire to skate along this game needs to be thrown in the trash as for some strange reason I am the only person not allowed to take a game off.

Reads:

Likely Town:
Kennigit - Like what he's saying. Fits his town game.

Lassie - Like what he's saying so far.

Lohrens - Seems townieish on tone.

Newyn - Tone read.

Pouter - Same as he was in the game on GITP, like it so far.

Takhisis - Feels like town takhisis to me.

Xym - town on tone/gut, his post looks fine to me.

Town:
Cass_ - Minor town lean (mostly because too many neutrals) doesn't seem like she has a particular agenda, sorta like the tone of her posts.

Choxorn - Could go both ways. Certainly hiding in the background a bit and not exactly leading discussion, but thats not how he plays anyway. Just a tone read on him.

Murska - Minor town read based on tone.

Neutral:
Autolycus - no posts IIRC

BSmith - no posts IIRC, low activity is his scum meta but lately its non alignment indicative so read into that what you will

Edse - Don't remember much of what he has posted.

Golden - Hasn't posted, doesn't post much. No read.

Jarrema: Would always love to get rid of me early if he was scum, but often believes his scum reads on me a lot. Could go either way, need a bit more to see where he's at. Potentially minor town lean for now. Always votes me D1.

KingMorgan: Generally always votes me initially D1. We normally exchange some sort of banter about english and Australian sporting teams, except the English test team are doing quite well at beating the South African under 12's so not much to discuss there. Minor town lean on past history, will need to see more.

Legato Endless - not sure if he's posted.

Special Category:
Glossy: Both ways. Dollars to Donuts she'd love to catch me as scum, so her reacting the way she did would not be unsurprising as town. Her reasons and reactions after that have been quite lackluster, but overall I think I am going to give a minor town lean, though not very strong. I'm mostly voting her out of spite. Sue me. ;)

Landlubber - Could go either way. Would certainly like to lynch me early if scum, but could genuinely believe I am scum, would like to see his interactions with other players to get a better read on his game.

Mat93 - Been very softly softly so far this game. Some of the things he has said has been pretty solid, but I'm not liking the cautious approach. I don't remember much of his playstyle, would like to see a bit more aggression and interactions/hunting from him to get a good read.

Zack: Could swing either way. Not really much to say here, he's certainly low impact and his mafia games generally tend that way, but he also doesn't seem to care about giving reads, so who knows. Neutral for now, until I see more.

Scummy:
Al Sips - Talking about not having a similar level of impact, over his last few games his town performances have been quite good, high level of activity and content, and no prisoners taken. I am a fan of how he goes about his business, but the one post bandwagon vote on me today hasn't exactly given me a good feeeling. Mildly scummy, need to see more.

Arakhor - Kennigit was dead on the money earlier, Arakhors interactions didn't exactly seem genuine to me. Definitely need to see more.

Backwards Logic
- His reaction to edses vote seemed very fake.

Cuth - Already detailed, thought his reactions and reads around the me/Newyn thing were fake, not exactly assured of the content.

Sooh - This is a minor one, but Sooh's been quite quiet despite being around, I would like to see more from her and what she thinks, just a gut read on this one.

Now the lot of you can sod off and lynch someone who is actually scummy.

This is useful.

Good enough for me, Visor. Your reads seem genuine enough.

Scum- Zack, Cuthilius, Arakhor, Cass, Mat93, landlubber

Town- visor, Lassie, Lohrens, Kennigit, Xym, edse, Jarrema, Pouter, choxorn

???- Takhsis, Murska, Al Sips, Newyn, Sooh, King Morgan, Backwards Logic, no/1/2 posters

This isn't. Especially in a thread this noisy and spammy. I don't care what your reads are, I want to know why you have them.

this is not actually true (surprisingly)

If there's one thing I'm sure of in this game, it's that Visor's meta is being overtly simplified.

I find it incredibly annoying I am held to the idea that effort = villager.

This is also sincere, but alignment neutral.

Because we are human and can view things differently with different opinions?

Heh.

Again, if you're looking at that game in particular I was engaging particular measures. Because Apoc was spamming the thread, I could get away with artificially inflating the size and decreasing readability as a straightforward tactic, all the while scolding him for doing it.

Cuth is almost certainly town. I know this thanks to the mass of nonsense I had to climb through. It probably wasn't worth it. Ahem.

Mafia Cuth is more a people pleaser. He's a friendly player, but you can get under his skin with a bit of effort. He's extremely keen on not being dismissed or pushed aside for irreverent jabber. Cuth would not be challenging half the assertions thrown his way if he were mafa.

Also, this thread grew 3 pages in the time I took reading it. I hate you Cuth, for...let's say the rest of today.

Lynch all liars is a bad policy.

Right. Lying and hypocrisy aren't alignment indicative on their own.

Phone dead. Later, losers.

Sigh.

Just an excuse or explanation if you will.

This game has been moving a lot faster than I expected, so I've been trying to read along from work. I work in a middle school, so I rarely have more than five minutes to myself which makes it difficult to be active from work. I've been here reading up and catching up, that's why I've been lurking.

*cue all the people who thinks I'm overdefending myself*

Yes Sooh. This was extremely foolish of you. Joining a mafia game when you also have a life.

Spoiler :
Read the whole thread from start to where I'm at now, page 25, some things may have changed:

Lock Town - Lassie

Medium/Strong Town - Kennigit
Medium/Strong Town - Visorslash
Medium Town - Glossysushi
Medium Town - Mat93
Slight Town - Zack
Slight Town - Takhisis

Slight/Medium Scum - Muska

Would had liked to have a scum read I felt stronger for.

See above. I'm going to ignore all of these posts.

Murska and I had a decent meld on reads, so I'll go Vote: Choxorn.

I have apparently lost the post I was quoting, but it was a good one. I'm not going to find it again until later.

Mm, for people who don't think I'm explaining my reads - I do, in other posts. My reads lists are a summary of what I think.

Legato Endless can be town for cutting through all the fluff and making conclusions, though his vote seems to be a cop out.
