It's a shame really. I mean where does it all end. In their lust for greed advertisers are finding more and more ways into our lives to cram product down our collective throats.

The real game is not what's on your hardrive, console, etc., it is what creative ways can we get to more people in the hopes of extracting their money.

This is rubbish!

You are so uninformed it's funny. Shame and I considered you too be a intelligent fella. Now I have to cram you with the rest of the ******** GS population. Oh well what can you do. Cheerio!

He's wrong?!

Guess you'll have to put me there too!

Well, you could explain why he is uninformed. That would probably work.

IGA and spyware are two very different things, does that answer your guyses question. Really, I dont blame the second poster, only an uninformed idiot would call it spyware, I to am getting tired of all the people who immediatly jump on the spyware bandwagon, besides, even if it did have actual spyware your spyware program would remove it and that would be that.

The hell is IGA?

Guess: In game advertisement
The post linked in the OP mentions stuff far beyond that, though. Too bad it doesn't actually provide a scan of the "slip of paper" it refers to.

Thanks Cleric, I have corrected the title to this thread. Come on now I do know the difference between spyware and IGA's. I was just so pissed when I read about this that I typed the first thing that came to mind.

However you do have to realize that perhaps we are entering an age where spyware masked within a games' engine is plausible. Agree or disagree?

As you can see I may have fallen for that spyware bandwagon preprogramming like a trained dagget (space monkey for those who don't know what a BSGOS dagget is). Sorry about the mistake chaps, accept my apologies.

Tut tut....

FACTS: The program only runs when you run the game. It does not scan your surfing habits. It only transmits the regional IP so proper ads can be displayed. Ad content is monitored so you will not get any kind vulgar or offensive ads.

Personally I dont care. The game is great and it doesnt bother me one bit. I havent even ran into a billboard yet.

If you would've started out with that then people would view you in a more positive light. ;))

No worries mate. :)

We all make mistakes from time to time. Mine was an incorrect title of a thread (which btw can only be edited by a mod?) and his was jumping to judgement too fast without considering my emotional reaction to something I don't like.

Cleric I appreciate the compliment, please don't regard me as any less intelligent than you originally thought. I'd appreciate being removed from any ******** population you have placed me in. If this is not possible than I guess it's not really my fault then is it? I've done my part.

At any rate old bean have a  with me in the spirit of comradeship and not in any negative energy.

Getting back to topic.

I don't mind ads in games as long as they're based on fictitious entities, e.g. Binco Clothing in GTA:SA. If it's part of the game world experience I'm fine.

What I resent beyond belief is when real world corporations intrude on my private time in an attempt to catch me when I'm most vulnerable. That is when I'm trying to enjoy my free time by escaping the harsh realities of day to day living through imaginary video games. The last thing I want is to be reminded we live in a world filled with greedy bastards trying to get my money.

Can someone please post a picture of the ads ingame?

One that has NOT been photoshopped!

I wasn't planning on buying this game anyways, but I am 99.99 against ads ingame. I completely agree with the post immediately above mine. Especialy if, say, Coke is advertising. [death threats towards some avertisers removed] Especialy Coke & Pepsi, why the hell do they advertise? They don't need to, at least the do fund some sport events that need the money.

Positive light? Eh I'm just the guy with a bottle, who keeps on drinking but cant get drunk.

Your status as GSer has been removed.

Good find PrinceScamp! :goodjob:

I can't believe how ugly those ads look in game. I couldn't play if I had to see those ads all over like that.

Interesting tidbit about blocking the IP address to prevent the ads from showing up. Still though I hope this idea dies so that we can all play games without a commercial interuption.

Imagine if they had ads in Civ? Your about to conqer that last city of your rival when you realize your tanks have to roll past a tile improvment that can't be pillaged, like and ad.

Between that and the Pepsi ad seen on the other thread, I'm very quickly turning off this game. This is supposed to be a futuristic, war-torn enviroment that is grimly depressing. I don't want to see giant colourful PEPSI adverts every so often. I can't stand overly blatant product placement in films, and I can't stand it here.

However, I find it amusing that, in a game that (so far) only features Europe and Asia, McDonalds seems to have outlived America :p

Don't think I'm gonna buy it...

I'm not a fan of in game advertising (unless it adds to realism, such as in footbll games).

Meh I'm in the Balkans. What the hell are they gonna advertise to me? A book on genocide?
