beta 4 of Civ3Edit patch

Brad, There are still some problems with the disappearing fields. After making a change to one of the units i then went to worker jobs and observed that the encyclopedia field was blank. When i closed the program and reopened the file, i found that the field was no longer blank.

Are you using the modified nib file that allows for adding and deleting units or just the plain ol' editor? What sorts of changes are you making?

Brad does this patch address the disappearing fields? Did you ever get that to appear (or not appear, rather) on your computer?

What fields? This may be a stupid question, but are you activating the rules each time you open the editor? Its got to be done manually. If these are the fields you're speaking of, such as "civilizations, units, citizens, etc.."

This disappearing fields is what I was talking about.

When going to edit the rules for say worker jobs. The Civilpedia entry for build mine is blank. When going to edit units, the civilopedia entry for Settlers is missing. When going to edit the rules for Improvements and wonders, the civilopedia entry for palace is gone.

i am not using anything except the editor Brad, i have not really figured out the .nib thing. Should i put that inside the editor package or something? Does that prevent the deletions? i can e-mail you my file, but as i mentioned earlier, it is the basic one that comes with the game, i have simply dropped it on the editor and it opens to test the problem. It consistently appears. If one is careful, one can avoid it. i also created a very easy scenario that i can send you that i observed that changing the starting advancements of civilizations does not save, nor does adding more cities. Although it appears to save this information, when the file is reopened, everything is back to the way it was. The disappearing fields can be dealt with by exiting the program and reopening it before moving on to another tab (for example, closing the program after editing units and then reopening if you want to edit worker jobs). However, this is rather frustrating when the game will not save other information, and gets a little confusing.

If you can send me anything that will help reproduce any bugs in the editor, I'd appreciate it. E-mail to bradman@pobox.com.

ferretlover,

I think you're experiencing the same problem I was when trying to access the file from my office at work. Brad's server doesn't seem to work too well if you're trying to get to it from behind a firewall. I had to wait till I got home to download it.

I don't have a firewall up. I am at home, using my home iMac on a dial-up connection. I have never used the OS X.2 Firewall feature. I just checked and it is off. I have tried to access it with both Safari and Netscape. No dice with either. Oh well.....

I'm downloading it fine right now.

Also, I noticed that I need to check the electricity eliminates disease in junlges b/c it was unchecked in mine.

Thanks Brad for all the work you have done.

Since when does electricity eliminate disease from jungles by default? I doubt there's even an option for that in the editor.. :hmm: The only thing that comes close is the option for having the tech disable disease from flood plains... and that comes with sanitation.

"Disables Diseases from Flood Plains"
Civilization Advances, 4th flag down on the left.
That will also take care of the jungle rot.

Not sure if it takes care of disease from jungle, but... anyway, it comes with sanitation already. Why add it to electricity, as well? :hmm:

okay, I'm stupid and I know that.

Also, I was wondering if that C3editrules.nib.zip thing could have a read me attached with the next version(if there is one) so that stupid people like myself can figure out what the point of it is besides just putting it into a folder.

:lol::)
Just unzip it, and pop it into the Civ3Edit package. It adds the Add/Delete buttons to the editor. Wouldn't make for much of a readme, if you ask me ;)

I can't get the "transition government" to work. Basically, and I don't know how this happened, I'm unable to check the "transition" box on Anarchy (or any other for that matter), and so there's never a revolution possible.

Any help?

Thanks,

Ari

How dows one get a hold of the beta 5 version of the Civ3Editor for Mac? Can someone email it to me? I cannot access Brian Oliver's site to download it.

Many thanks.

I don't have add and remove buttons on civ3edit after putting it in the resources thing in the package. I'm pretty sure the buttons that are there are different though.

Like what, for instance? The add/remove buttons should be there if you put the C3editrules.nib in the resources folder of the package.
