Fox News has confirmed that it is letting go of Bill O’Reilly, its highly profitable but controversial anchor, amid accusations of sexual harassment.

In an email to staff, the company’s parent company, 21st Century Fox, said the 67-year-old was leaving following a review of accusations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour levelled against him.

“After a thorough review of the allegations against him, the company and Bill O’Reilly have agreed that Mr O’Reilly will not return to the Fox News Channel,” it said.

If anything, it's a faint shimmer in the darkness that is Fox News. I don't think this will change much, but I won't deny myself from taking great pleasure in it.

So according to Fox it's perfectly ok to quitely settle numerous sexual harassment accusations. What will get you fired is if those settlements are made public. Not quite a high moral standard, is it?

Didn't O'Reilly and his friends use to be the "family values" crowd?

Family values: men do what they please, women obey, children will grow up to be a man or a woman depending on our say-so, no race-mixing, no gay [CENSORED]. :vomit:

Naturally this will be used as an example of how EVERYTHING IS FINE AT FOX NO ONE NEEDS TO LOOK ANY MORE OK BYE

Isn't the guy just going to move to an alt-news outlet or maybe start his own?

I'm expecting this to happen. The guy has a huge following. If he wants to continue working even if noone wants to hire him, he can just start a radio show or similar.

kinda don't like that it needed sexual harasment to get this **** off television
I'm not willing to give fox any credit for this. They got rid of him because advertisers were pulling out

Exactly. It wasn't the harassment, it wasn't the "made public", it was when advertisers stopped paying that they finally decided it was not acceptable. Not exactly the high ground.

We don't know if the allegations are true. And there's no details on what the "sexual harassment" was.

Yes we don't. But the sheer number of accusers is making a severe dent into that "family values" image. Also, during the presidential campaign many on the right (*cough*Trump*cough*) took the fact that Clinton had setteled an issue as proof that he had done something wrong. And that was AFAIK only one settlement.

Who cares? This guy hasn't been on my radar in years, I didn't even know he was still working.

I mean, I'm kinda smug he finally got axed, I'm not gonna lie.

Yeah that's the only reason I can think of that people would care. Seems kind of childish to me tbh, as much as I think the guy is a {expletive deleted}

I would rather nobody mentioned his name again and I would never have to see it anywhere. But nope, all media all over the place has to repeat his name and now I have to think about him and his stupid face.

To be fair, there's also something to be celebrated in the fact that so many gross dudes are being thrown out of work for being abusers, and that on some level abuse is even being addressed by powerful institutions like corporations ... not to say that it's likely that this will directly lead to any kind of true confrontation with the systemic abuse endemic in "our" public and private institutions, but it's a start.

Cool, now Billo's free to take over for Sean Spicer when he inevitably snaps,

The worst thing is that he has such a dedicated following, that he'll find work. It may be something niche but there will be some advertisers that be fine for him once he's not mainstream anymore. Nothing sells guns like blatant racism.

In fact, he just released a book about how old-school values are best values.
