Herman Cain - Bubba II??

To be honest, we do live in the era where women throw around "sexual harassment" like it's a casual shopping term. It's quite likely that at one point a woman has accused you of sexual harassment, even if came no where close. He may have retorted with that because of how lightly women throw the term around.

In your experience, have women thrown the term around lightly?

It's not like rape is all jolly good fun for the victims, you know.

Whoa now, I don't think anyone mentioned rape before. There's a world of difference between rape and a pubic hair on a coke can...

We don't really, actual sexual harassment is still pretty underreported (I work in HR). The fact that the women were given substantial buyouts would indicate that the firm thought they might be liable for damages, which they wouldn't do if the accusations were totally frivolous.

By that logic, Paula Jones had a legitimate case. After all, Clinton settled that and paid her off.

The Clinton payoff came after Clinton had won a summary judgment. The case was appealed and at oral argument 2 of the 3 judges appeared sympathetic to Jones, meaning the case would likely be sent back to the trial court. At the time of the settlement, Clinton had more urgent items on his plate than lobbying for restaurants. Not quite the quick surrender that Cain did here.
Please, PLEASE tell me you got that reference. Otherwise that sentence is just bizarre and disturbing. Well, it's kinda disturbing anyway, but at least makes sense if you know the reference.
The good ole 80's, back when Coke cans didn't groom as much.

I don't think she had a good case, but I'm just pointing out the double standard. I heard for 15 years that Paula Jones was a liar...now the same side is claiming that settling the case = admission of guilt.

And we don't have a lot of details here. We don't know if Cain or someone else made the settlement.

He is, after all, running for the GOP nomination, not the Democratic nomination, so an accusation like this actually has the possibility of sinking him.
I dunno. He might get some closet supporters. The GOP has their fair share of kinkiness. Foot tapping, "luggage carriers", and so on.

“My general counsel said this started out where she and her lawyer were demanding a huge financial settlement…I don’t remember a number…But then he said because there was no basis for this, we ended up settling for what would have been a termination settlement,” Cain said in the interview, as reported by the Washington Examiner. “Maybe three months’ salary. I don’t remember. It might have been two months. I do remember my general counsel saying we didn’t pay all of the money they demanded.”

Cain’s statement represent a reversal from what the Republican said only hours ago (see video below), when he denied that he knew about any settlement that was reached after the claims of sexual harassment were made.

 Where did I say rape, and where did I say nobody really ever gets raped?

Well, that sounds like his lawyer took care of it and then told him.

But that's literally within the past hour. He's been handling this story badly and we might hear another version tomorrow.

Focus. We're talking about sexual harassment, which is tantamount to rape - also a form of sexual harassment.

Since one often leads to the other and both demean the woman sexually, they're related.

Deliberately?

Yes. I believe he never actually intended to win, and was just a pawn for Koch Industries to popularize the idea of a flat tax. He has to take a dive because he's gotten too popular, and is threatening to mess up Romney's nomination.

I don't know where these leaks came from, but so far Cain's response to them has been awful (politically).

It's a comparable relationship to that between injury and disembowelment.
