It's incredibly hard to accept that liberal does NOT imply freedom.....

It's easier to accept all native English speaking people got it collectively wrong.

 You're probably right, but we anglophones are not known for our common sense.

Edit:
A funny detail: A Dutch 'Liberaal' is someone who is fiscally right-winged, and usually, but not necessarily, socially liberal.

The extra 'a' has that effect I guess. :)

The German translation of the Dutch word 'liberaal' would be 'liberal'.

And now we should end this shameless threadjack.

This O-something dude is by no means a liberal/liberaal.

My mouse slipped over the wrong option. (I meant to say conservative)
I can't stand his heavy-handed discussions.

This is inspired by one of Babbler's posts in another thread. By that post it seemed like Babbler considers him a Conservative. But I consider O'Reilly to be liberal, or at least more liberal than me. So which do you think he is? Is he a crazy liberal nutcase or a wacked out right-wing neo-con?

Poll coming.

He's a conservative, no doubt. He's just not a wacked out right-winger. He's smart enough to realize when GWB makes mistakes, and points them out, even harping on issues that aren't addressed.

Bill is, no doubt, a conservative. He doesnt always tow the Bush line, but he's a republican, through and through

Anyone who thinks Bill is liberal (in an absolute sense, not relative) is not deserving of my respect at all. I almost feel insulted that someone would think of putting me and someone with such abhorrent values on the same side of the political spectrum. "Middle of the road" is definitely pushing it, too.

Just because a person has weird values that aren't the same doesn't mean he is on the other side of the political spectrum. But I tend to think more conservatives support him than liberals, which is why I think his views are more conservative.

O'Reilly is not nearly as conservative as most of you make him out to be.

Compared to the average user on this forum, he is.

O'Reilly is conservative by any reasonable standard. He clearly favors conservative positions over liberal ones 95% of the time.

I think some people may be confusing conservative and Republican. O'Reilly only leans Republican...he's clearly taken issue with the Republican party many times in the past and will likely continue to do so. However, he's very conservative. Issues where he disagrees with Bush the most are generally issues where Bush has abandoned the traditional conservative line for one reason or another.

He is only a good monkey that suffered a little nuclear accident while he was walking in a place called Chernobyl :).

Why bother with O'Reilly? Focus on things that are more important in your life.
