Biochemist (nobel winner) resigns over his comments on women in labs

If this dude has said that blacks or Asians or gays etc, should be segregated in labs i doubt anyone would even bother defend him, but when it comes to women...
First, it was a question, instead of a statement, as the lying pseudo-journalist intentionally falsely framed it.

Second it was a joke which even scientists are expected to make in their opening to such audiences. I know one isn't supposed to make stupid jokes in front of pseudo-journalists who overstate their qualifications, may take offense, and commence a full-scale PC witch hunt. But there it is.

Third, James Watson and literally hundreds of other scientists have made, and continue to make, clearly racist statements about blacks being intellectually inferior to whites based on pseudo-science. Yet hardly anything is ever done about it.

Fourth, are you really trying to insinuate that I am "defending" him because I too am a sexist?

Let the witch burning based on false sexist grounds continue.

OMG. How could a respectable scientist possibly appear in public in such a clearly disgraceful manner:

He should have quoted Welcome Back Kotter instead:

Oh, for crying out loud. Nobody's coming for you, either. :coffee:

But it's interesting to see that you think sexist jokes are the "expected" thing for a scientist to make in front of an audience of women.

Please do stop implying that this woman who was found to have false credentials was the ONLY person in the audience. She wasn't. Others were there, they all heard Tim Hunt's words. Some of them, like you, laughed them off. Others found them at least questionable, if not downright offensive.

Actually, why ARE you defending Tim Hunt so vociferously? Don't say it's because of the woman's credentials, because you've been vigorously defending 'Saint Timmy' from the get-go.

Feminism ruining the world, one scientist at a time.

This isn't feminism any more than man-hating is. This is political correctness running amok based on the quote mining and deliberately disingenuous statements of a pseudo-journalist who vastly overstated her qualifications.

BTW that shirt Matt Taylor is wearing, which created the very same sort of PC authoritarian witch hunt, was made by a woman and presented to him as a gift.

She didn't lie about the words that came out of Tim Hunt's mouth. He said them, and everyone present heard them. Other people have reported what he said - are you going to accuse everyone in that room of being a "lying pseudo-journalist"?

The second paragraph explains why men are typically unsuited for becoming kindergarten teachers, unless they happen to be Captain Kangaroo. Even most women are not suited for that job.
Hu ?

Sorry, but how exactly :
My ex-wife is a highly regarded high school teacher who has won numerous awards, particularly for teaching exceptional children. She told me she has no friends who are lower grade school teachers, because dealing with young children all day long for years on end permanently changes the way they even deal with adults.
does actually explain that "men are typically unsuited for becoming kindergarten teachers" ?

Well, at least we are now down to one paragraph instead of 3.

Since I'm having a difficult time conveying this, perhaps I should leave it to a current kindergarten teacher.

People think I’m weird anyway. I smile all the time. I sing and dance in the teacher’s room with veteran teachers. I wear green sneakers (really, they are green!). I teach my class the robot and other awful dance moves from my youth. There’s nothing wrong with being DIFFERENT. If being ‘weird’ means being different, sign me up. Who wants to be plain, boring, or ordinary? If loving the work you do – teaching children to observe and notice the world around them in unique and creative ways makes you weird, then be weird. If knowing you are making an impact on a child’s life, even just for a short time makes you weird, then be weird. If wanting to share a little bit of the joy you have for life and learning with sprouts just beginning their own journeys in education makes you weird, then embrace being weird!
There just aren't that many Mr Rogers or Captain Kangaroos out there.
