BOTWAWKI Revised Thread

Thats too bad, this was alot of fun. I'm glad we're getting a write up though, instead of it just dying with no closing.

I think I did well for my first Nes.

Like a massive wave of sword, machine gun, and mutant, the Master's Army pour out of Vermont and into the mostly unsuspecting towns of the Imperial Wasteland. The main army advanced rapidly up the St. Lawrence River, overwhelming and destroying town after town of the Liberty Commonwealth. Thousands died in the advance, and they were not alone. Two other armies stormed across the civilized communities of the region, one wiping out the trading and observation posts of Vault 100, and besieging the vault itself. Another army nearly wiped out the Bekwa, and sending them to hide with their brethren tribes the northeast, threatening to destroy the Canadian resistance at the Deifenbunker.

Even as the Master's seemingly unstoppable armies advanced across the wasteland, the people in their way stood against them with everything they had. In Gananoque, the second largest city in the Liberty Commonwealth, they stood for nearly two weeks, killing five of the massive behemoth mutants. Some even managed to escape while firing upon the enemy with a derelict steamship and numerous canoes. The turning point came at Vault 100, however, as the super mutants besieged the residents, and began blasting their way through the sides of the vault. When they at last managed to gain a foothold, they found themselves overwhelmed by fanatical human and robotic resistance, with heavy firepower. The mutants, for the first time, found themselves retreating.

The defeat at Vault 100 forced the Master to revise his plans, pulling back his other large army from their camp among the ruins of Perchtown. Plans for an attack upon Watertown were abandoned, and a new attack began. The mutants drove their way west once more finding Vault 100 abandoned by its residents. The Vault's computer overseer had determined that logically a follow-up attack would reduce the defenses completely. Upon this, the Sentry Bots, humans, and other robots were sent west to join resistance by the Appalachian Commonwealth. When the mutants arrived at Vault 100, INAHAC put its science tools to go use, waging a guerilla war within the vault by itself, and performing vicious "experimental electronic and gaseous warfare" upon the invaders. Upon realizing that the vault was empty of inhabitants, the mutants quickly left INAHAC alone and marched west. To meet them was the largest human army yet, assembled in a desperate gambit to defeat the super mutant invaders. Fighters from both Commonwealths, the Narwhal Imperial Republic, the Seven Sixers, a number of small communities, and even from as far away as New Frostburk stood united at the massive door of Vault 104 under the banner of the so-called "Grand Army."

With superior numbers, power armor, and an enormous amount of varied weaponry the human resistance managed to defeat the Master's Army in an open battle in the ruins of Binghamton. Though much of the Appalachian Commonwealth's progress was destroyed in the fighting, the mutants were sent running once more. More good news came from the north when reports emerged that a much smaller, but still potent super mutant army was defeated at the Deifenbunker by the Canadian resistance movement. Allegedly the army was wiped out by the defenders and a cunning rear attack by their Bekwa allies. Unfortunately, the Grand Army was badly mauled itself, with many dead or wounded in course of the battle of Binghamton. The belief was, however, that the Master was beaten back for good. Some people returned to their own communities and the Grand Army was disbanded.

The ideas of victory were merely illusion and the Master was to make one final bid. The Narwhal Imperial Republic, having acted as the bastion of supply and weaponry for the Grand Army, was at last identified as the Master's greatest threat. Scraping together the whole of his remaining forces, including the elite Nightkin and their feared Stealth Boys, the Master drove south towards Narwhal City, razing New Appalachia on his way. Narwhal City, once of the most fortified settlements in the area, soon fell under siege. Confident of their own superiority in weapons and position, the defenders grew complacent, not realizing the greatest threat was from within. The Sons of the Apocalypse, an undercover group established by the Master, managed to gain the entry of fifty Nightkin into the city's defenses. The Nightkin overwhelmed the wall defenses and opened the doors for the rest of the army. The defenders, not expecting this attack, were slaughtered, barely putting up much of a fight. The Master's victory was assured on the walls of Narwhal City.

Fortunately for humanity, a group of ragged defenders managed to create a temporary stronghold within the submarine housing Project Purity. A traitor Son of the Apocalypse informed them of the history and location of the Master, as well as informing them of a horrific option to stop the Master's Army in its tracks. As they prepared themselves for the super mutant's final attack with their last ten behemoths, the two dozen or so remaining defenders sent the youngest of them to attempt to swim to Long Island to pass on the information they had learned about the Master and his mutants. As they fought and died, the Son of the Apocalypse with them and their own engineer managed to rig the GECK and the submarine's own reactor to explode. The resulting blast was felt as far away as Liberty Island, and through it Narwhal City was destroyed as was the final army of the Master.

Though the Master had been decisively defeated once more, the Grand Army was reassembled and using the information gathered by the defenders of Project Purity, as well as from interrogations of surviving members of the Sons of the Apocalypse, the army marched to northern Vermont. In a vicious battle against mutants and automated defenses, the soldiers of the Grand Army managed to penetrate the Master's vault, to find the monstrosity himself within. Though he managed to put up a strong fight, the Master was eventually slain, ending his reign of terror in the wastelands once and for all. Humanity at last was once more able to pursue its own destiny.

In the wake of the Master's War, the Appalachian and Liberty Commonwealths found they had much in common, and the United Commonwealth was eventually formed. Working together to rebuild from the destruction caused by the Master the United Commonwealth manage to absorb numerous smaller communities throughout the Imperial Wasteland. They quickly became the largest producer of food and water, and after an expedition managed to recover the amazing wealth and weaponry of Fort Drum, the United Commonwealth became the most secure and powerful of the factions in the former northeastern United States. Though they possessed close ties and friendships with the Narwhal Imperial Republic and Vault 100, they were never able to persuade them to join the United Commonwealths. Likewise, the renewed state of Canada proved ever hostile towards the United Commonwealths, and tensions continued to rise, threatening war in the north.

The Canadian resistance movement in the Deifenbunker proved to be more durable and adaptable than anyone could have expected. Having managed to repulse a super mutant army almost alone, they were still not invited to join the Grand Army which actually destroyed the Master. Eventually a national government of Canada was restored, establishing one of the larger and more prosperous states of the northeast. They continually spar with the United Commonwealth and the Bekwa tribes to the northeast, prepared to continue the fight until every last inch of Canadian soil was liberated.

The Bekwa were nearly destroyed in the course of the Master's War, and those who did survive either joined the Deifenbunker in its fight or fled to rejoin their brethren tribes to the northwest. Ultimately the tribes rallied together to form a single political entity, though they never really possessed the centralization or unity of the Canadians. They still managed to gain a reputation as skilled scouts and warriors in hand to hand combat and Bekwa scavengers have been seen in places as far away as Washington D.C.

Vault 100 and INAHAC survived the Master's War, barely. Eventually the humans and robots which served science returned to the vault, but many had a changed perspective on the world. Though many returned to the vault's experiments, still more established a growing community outside of the vault. This separate community of vault dwellers eventually managed to establish control over the best trading routes in the Imperial Wasteland. As trading ties between the Narwhal Imperial Republic and the United Commonwealth grew, Vault 100 continued to prosper and develop its science and resources. Ultimately the revolutionary devices created by INAHAC's experimentation led to the vault becoming the economic and technological capital of the wastes.

The loss of Narwhal City was a tremendous blow to the Narwhal Imperial Republic. Regardless the surviving Narwhals on Long Island and northern New Jersey managed to rebuild the glory of their empire. Though the benefits of Project Purity were lost in time, enough water was stored to give a proper jump start to Narwhal civilization. Long Island became an agricultural breadbasket while the ruins of New York City provided the means for weapons and manufacturing that they needed to maintain military strength. Overlooking it all was the restored Statue of Liberty, a glowing monument to the survival and sacrifice of those who protected humanity as well as the times past.

The Seven-Sixers had been virtually untouched by the Master's War, though starvation and local difficulties with renegade Narwhales nearly wiped them out anyways. Eventually, thanks to their acquisition of advanced weapons designs from before the war, the Seven Sixers managed to become the center of industry in the Imperial Wasteland. They successfully produced and exported advanced arms and munitions, as well as some for themselves. Using their newfound industrial and military strength, the Seven-Sixers managed to carve out significant holdings in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Ultimately they established the Phily Republic, known as the place for modern manufacturing and development.

New Frostburk played a very limited role in the Master's War, providing only scarce troops to the raging epic conflict. After the fight, using their own know-how and experience of veterans, New Frostburk found very little trouble from local communities and raiders in Maryland. Ultimately the people of the bunker at new Frostburk managed to establish control over most of Maryland and southern Pennsylvania. Though they would never be the epicenter of events in the Imperial Wasteland, they still found a niche, providing exclusive collectors with relics found from the nearby ruins of Washington D.C.

The brutal Wild Wolves survived their minor civil war with cannibals, survived and thrived. The tribe managed to subdue uppity surrounding communities and other tribes, and each victory added to their numbers. The Wild Wolves managed to carve out a considerable empire in Florida and southern Georgia, until they met two considerable roadblocks. To the south the city of Orlando became known as a haunted realm, avoided by all but the boldest wolves, most of whom failed to return. Tales of building sized alligators that could swallow a man whole soon stopped any proper expansion to the south. In the west, the Fort Morgan Refuge acted as a bulwark, using advanced weaponry and equipment to stem the tide of the wolves. Eventually it became apparent that further fighting was futile and both sides settled down, preparing for another chance to determine the true power along the Gulf of Mexico.

The Fort Morgan Refuge absorbed numerous surrounding communities, by force and diplomacy. The growing political strength of the Power Armor Corps ultimately led to the establishment of a nobility, and even a pseudo monarchy led by the Corps. From all this emerged a warped type of chivalry and ideals, reinforced with the discovery of idealized texts about the Middle Ages. The landed nobles and power-armored "Knights of the Fort" emerged as the dominating political power for decades to come. They faced their true challenge as the barbaric Wild Wolves emerged from the east, and great feats of strength by the Corps only reinforced their position in the Refuge's society.

The Kritarchy of United Slavers found themselves in a brutal war of survival throughout most of their early history. Various other tribals attempted to destroy what holdings they had, and slave uprising plagued their existence. Eventually, the Kritarchy managed to subdue the tribes and other communities, and eventually gained great prosperity with the activation of a GECK around New Lafayette. The GECK acted as a stabilizing influence, even leading some more tribes to volunteer to join the Kritarchy as they thrived off food and water production. Eventually the prosperity would threaten to ignite another war, as apparently lured from the growing food source, the mutated spiders from New Orleans began appearing on the boundaries of the Kritarchy.

The Spring Valley Food Corporation found themselves in a strong position after the capturing of Council Bluffs from the Reavers. Finding a considerable stockpile of guns and ammunition in the ruins, they managed to enforce their claims across the region. Long dormant fields were restored and workers flooded the area looking for food and water. Faced by increasing problems with immigrants, the Corporation was forced to keep expanding, enlarging the food supply and using the river for transportation and exploration. The Corporation eventually federalized and reformed, establishing the American Corporate Republic, and continuing to be one of the largest food producers in North America. Unfortunately this brought them into conflict with the Earth Reclamation Command which, chronically short on food, attempted to use their advanced military equipment to take food from the Republic. The war frequently stalemated as while the ERC had better guns, the Republic had more of them.

The Earth Reclamation Command managed to survive its chronic shortages of food and water, barely. Using their weapons and skill in battle they carved out an empire based upon extorting supplies from independent communities. Though vicious, their reputation eventually would win out, as several razed communities later, few had the will to resist when the power-armored troops showed up upon their doorsteps. This technique would eventually be stalled when they encountered the American Corporate Republic in the east, for the first time finding themselves outgunned. The ERC found something even more disturbing in one of their circumstances, sporebeasts. These creatures apparently had managed to survive in the wastes after all, leaving the ERC leadership to ponder how many more could be out there.

The Rutgers Sheriffate initially found significant opposition to its expansion at the hands of ghouls and raiders. Eventually other communities would emerge also resisting the Sheriffs of that faction. This would all change when the Sheriffate managed to restore two aging fighters from before the war. These fighters proved the base of the faction's power and any who resisted the new nation's expansion found themselves leveled by death from above. A few demonstrations would be all that was needed, and the Sheriffate grew as an expanding power in the wasteland.

Vutg, suffering from a rather inhospitable location, never really managed to become as prosperous or large as another wasteland nations. They were geographically isolated from most other nearby groups and they lived peacefully, continuing experiments of their own. Despite this, their research and own exploratory expeditions would eventually lead Vutg to launching humanity's first space program since the Great War. Establishing control of a satellite network eventually led Vutg to be the first nation in North America to have contact with other nations across the world.

The Community's isolation from the rest of North America proved to be its greatest asset. Rarely being bothered by raiders or other miscreants, the Community managed to thrive peacefully for nearly a hundred years. They slowly expanded, absorbing other peaceful communities and tribes, and bringing their ideas of a glorified Pre-war America to the wasteland. When the Enclave arrived on the West Coast, they found themselves welcomed warmly by the Community's leadership and were eventually persuaded to use the Community as their base upon the continent. Thanks to the Enclave's advanced arms and the material wealth of the Community, the two groups managed to restore a large portion of the Pacific Northwest into the redeveloping United States of America.

The Crips struggled for years among numerous other gangs within the ruins of Los Angeles, never quite gaining a significant advantage. Eventually this changed with the discovery of a GECK in the ruins and the Crips eventually migrated out of the city. In the desert terrain outside of Los Angeles, the Crips activated the GECK and with it managed to create a verdant paradise. From here they built up their strength and power, and eventually managed to set up a considerable nation in southern California. Despite the prosperity of their communities, they would never be a true military power and they found themselves greatly threatened by the reformed United States to the north and the Enclave behind it.

That was awesome. Thanks!

Can we get spoilers on what the big pieces of salvage that you posted a list of locations for were, too? ;)

No, that I'm keeping for the future scenario when I start a new Fallout NES.

Looking forward to it.

(Will it be a continuation of this universe, or a different one?)

EDIT: Also, man am I glad I kicked out those Sons of the Apocalypse...

Well, the backstory I give here sets up for a completely different ruleset and atmosphere. If I were to another Fallout NES, it'd start from scratch again. Thanks to the changes the ruleset has undergone since day one and likely different starting factions/locations, I'm sure it'd be a totally different experience.

Anonymoose, looks like our joint plan of world conquest did not work out. Sorry for that.

EQ, thank you for awesome experience!

Thanks a lot, man :). It was great to see that, in the end, the Liberty Commonwealth became one of the most powerful nations in the world (even if it is joined with the Appalachian Commonwealth). And, finally, they got to do what I wasn't able to do!!! (Fuggin' Fort Drum...)

A shame to see this dead, but ah well. This still lasted longer than a lot of other games out there, and even if I didn't get to play in it for long, it was certainly an entertaining read. The map of course kind of makes me wish for a game in that setting, but another Fallout game where I could participate from the start would be nice too. ;)

You sold us out to the Enclave, you sly dog.

That was awesome. I really hope we can play a more "normal" NES from the map now generated!!

Well that's pretty badass. I'm also hoping that one day we may see a NES spawned from this one.
