British Parliamentary convulsions, continued...

Kinda strange as thats the nearest council (where there was an election) on the map to me:crazyeye:

Lib Dems on projected 28% of national vote share in council elections. Not bad, 5% above Labour, but still losing seats though:(

For sure but the tories taking Sommerset from the Libs does suck. I mean it sucks for me and unlike you I am not from Sommerset or particually Lib Dem.

Unitary Authority in Bedfordshire means getting rid of the County Council but still having Bedfordshire split into a few Unitary Authorities (I never worked out how a County can have more than one Unitary Authority but there we go). I'm not surprised Central Bedfordshire has gone to the Tories as it's always been pretty blue. It will be more interesting where Bedford itself will go (was just Liberal) and Luton (Labour).

I am surprised the Lib Dem vote has dropped, I thought they would have done better, but am not surprised at the Labour losses.

That is scary. I'm glad Labour have been punished, but that's giving too much power to one party.
The Conservatives need to lose some of those.

Lets keep this in context guys... The elections were only held in County Councils and a handful of unitary authorities, so it was not a national poll. Furthermore, it was a heavily selective poll -- it excluded almost all metropolitan areas, where Labour are usually stronger. Everyone knows that the countryside usually votes Tory and the cities usually vote Labour. I mean, the fact that Labour only had 4 councils in the first place is a poignant reminder of this fact. Yes, they were annihilated, but they were annihilated away from home -- for me, most significantly, without a vital away goal.
