EDIT. Whenever you declar war on a human player you need to send notifiaction that you are at war with them via email, otherwise I might not have noticed that you have declared on me. As a result a few moves that I could have made were not made because I did not know I was at war with you. Since you send me the save, you simply could have said that I have declared war on me and thus I would have been prepared to make a better counteroffensive.
