:cringe: you can't seriously believe that...
Its an exaggeration, but not that large of a one.

In AP classes sure, how about non-AP classes? How about schools where non-native English speakers represent over 25% of the class? How about schools where over half the kids are on free and reduced lunch?
Inner city schools have always been horrible. They just don't get enough funding.

We had so much time in those other classes the teachers would spend a whole month on holocaust simulations or civil war studies.

Yeah, I think there's more than enough room to fit some LGBT mention into general history classes.

It is grievously incorrect

It's called non-rich California

It's nice that you went to a well funded school, California not so much.

I'm not sure what funding has to do with how long it takes to teach something. And you can't just put all California schools into one category.

Honestly it looks to me like you're looking for every excuse possible to oppose this.

How easy do you think it is to teach students who don't even understand English well? How easy is it to teach students who worry about fightings between the 13s and 14s? How about students who are functionally illiterate?

I hate living in this political Bizarro World.

How many of these ******ed random-minority-group-that-got-oppressed-history lessons are we going to cram into schools at the expense of important information before we realize that we're no longer teaching history at all? Are we going to get a Ginger History Month?

All I can do is roll my eyes at California  and shrug my shoulders at why people would choose to live there :dunno:

I don't see a point in this. I mean sure it can add in more materials into a Holocaust study. Other than the Stonewall Riots and a few pieces of legislation to decriminalize homosexuality. Gay History does not carry the same weight as the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s at this point in time. In comparison with US History, Gay History is just a footnote in American History.

So your option is to totally ignore LGBT history?

There's a difference between history and propaganda. The proposal seems more like the latter because its purpose is not to inform but change attitudes.

As children spend a fixed amount of time in history classes, mandating gay history means that the time spent on other parts of our history are going to have to be reduced even further. Our history education is shameful enough as it is and this is going to make it worse.

I rather have more "Maths" and "English"

All the ultra left wing wack jobs that are behind this bill all live in the bay area or Sacramento and do not accurately portray the actual population of California.

So people who want to teach, not ignore, LGBT history are "Left wing wack jobs"?

Where have you been? Everything can be made a left-vs-right issue. Labelling your opposition "right-wingers", "liberals" or "socialists" is, unfortunately, a highly effective way of getting people who disagree with you to distance themselves from the people who don't.

You're just applying ridiculous standards at this point. Why bother to teach these kids anything at all, right?

who cares about teaching kids important history lessons, they need to learn more about this America/Europe-centric LGBT history. Who cares about the presidents, the Constitution, Math, Science, this is more important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the gay community have nearly perfected this by labeling all who disagree with their agenda as bigots.

Oh my god guys it's a false dichotomy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The word bigot describes you perfectly.

With regards to young people's exposure to homosexuality:

You can cover romance without covering the sexual aspects of a relationship.

After all, we expose our kids to heterosexuality all the time in cartoons; boys and girls kiss all the time in them. There's nothing wrong with exposure, as it hardly involves sexual aspects at all.

Well short of some osbcure argument as to why homosexual romance is also "wrong."

You're just applying ridiculous standards at this point. Why bother to teach these kids anything at all, right?

I was lucky enough to be enrolled in a privileged school in California but let me assure you that public schools here, especially in regions near the Mexican border, have been overwhelmed by Mexican and other foreign children who understand little to no English. Not only does this make the job of the teacher more difficult, but it also affects the education of other children who have to accept that they will be learning at a slower pace due to their peers.

How about you teach them English which they will need to communicate, mathematics to do basic tasks, science so they have a basic understanding of how the world works and history so they know what the heck goes on.
