canada may not be powerful but we have alot inventions made here i was watching a show and apperently two canadiens sold there invention to someone that person that bought the invention was thomas edison and the invention was the lightbulb

I also heard these same two guys invented the assembly line, vulcanized rubber, the transistor, ice cream cones, and Teflon. Plus, they had a hand in discovering DNA. Strangely, they're most famous these days as being two beer-obsessed, plaid-clad hosers with a great version of the Twelve Days of Christmas.

Sorry antilogic I meant no offense to Lincoln and understand he was a good leader. I just don't think he deserves to be a Civ 4 leader although he was one of my first guesses for one of the fifteen new leaders. I also realized after posting that it would take alot more work to create a new nation over a new leader. Canada really has never been a world power and their are far more civs more deserving of a spot in the expansion, but their are quite a few weak civs added in the previous, and new expansion. To say Canada has not done anything on the world stage is bs in my opinion, at least we didn't interfere with other countries by training them and giving them guns to later invade them, or overthrow a democracy to gain control of their oil to later call it one of the "three axis of evil" *cough* Iran. Well thats my rant for the day.:D

I'm not making any arguments about Canada on the world stage right now, so I'm presuming a bit of that wasn't directed at me. I was complaining for the most part about the utterly huge and for the most part pointless posts of a particular Canuk99.

Personally, I would have included Lincoln before Roosevelt. But that's just an American's opinion. :)

Only the first bit was directed at you antilogic. As for undeserving civs i mentioned earlier I'm thinking civs like Carthage, not so much the civ but the leader since he wasn't actually the leader, had he been they could have won the second punic war. The only way Canada will get into the expansion is if us Canadians whine enough about the inclussion of Canada so that the developers might add it to make a little more money. I'll buy the expansion regardless.;)

Hannibal is one of those damned-if-they-do, damned-if-they-don't leaders. If they'd included the actual Carthaginian head honcho, everyone would be saying, "Huh? Why didn't they include Hannibal?" Perhaps we should just view the term "leader" more loosely: Hannibal was a general and led troops, therefore he was a leader.

As I mentioned before, I don't think Canada is a big enough market to warrant inclusion, and most people in other markets are unfamiliar with our leaders, history, or accomplishments. I'm quite happy with the mod.

In 2005 Canada had a population of over 32 million. Netherlands had 16 mil, Portugal had 10 mil and Greece 11 mil, all smaller markets compared to Canada, but 1 is already in and 2 of these will be likely included. Other "big markets" already in the game had population from 43 mil (Spain), 46 mil (S. Korea), 58 mil (Italy), 60 mil (France), 82 mil (Germany). It's true they are bigger markets than Canada, but really not that much bigger. These are all developed countries so their purchase powers are not really that different.

So in short, one may argue whether Canada should be in the game due to historical or political reasons, but market size should not be a true concern. On the contrary, if profit is the only goal, adding one leader to spice up the product to attract a market of 32+ million potential buyers sounds like a decent investment IMHO.

what do you have against canada?

What? Hannibal was a general, yes, and he is most famous for that. However, he also served as one of the oligarchs (they were called suffets, if I'm not mistaken) in Carthage after the Second Punic War. As I understand, he was quite successful in the political arena as well.

Since Carthage was an oligarchy in this period, he was not an "absolute" ruler of Carthage...but then again, neither was anyone else.

Canada is above some civilizations on the list of to-be-added, but it certainly is not high. It is no older than America and, unlike America, it has yet to make any signifigant impact on the modern world.

Hannibal was banished by Rome upon the completion of the war. I believe he was even eventually assassinated once Rome put a bounty on his head. Had he been the Carthage leader he would not have redirected the reinforcements meant for him to Spain to deal with Scipio. He's really one of those "what if" generals he was a good statesman though as he managed to cause some cities to defect to Carthage and was an excellent leader of men.

Quite right, thanks for the reminder.

Actually, IIRC, Hannibal eventually committed suicide rather than be turned over to his old enemies, the Romans.

I say no because we are only a By-Product from the British empire.

Besides Quebec is way cooler.

As a Canadian, I give props to the fellow Canucks defending our countries contribution to the world throughout history. I grew up near the border and over the years have gotten quite fed up with various loud-mouthed American braggarts beating their chest over and over, displaying their supremacy.

However, I don't feel younger nations should be in the game. I hate playing against the Americans if I want a realistic experience, so I just select my opponents. I liked how CTP let you play countless of these typically New World or younger nations. I am happy when any new civs come out, because the game is that much better.

Getting back to the whole supposed inferiority complex Canada has because of the US, I no longer worry about that crap. I am aware of my country place and history in the world. I have been to the WW battle sites, I have seen the monuments and am personally a by-product of many great things Canada is and represents (my Grandparent chose to immigrate to Ontario, like many Dutch after the war, as their country was liberated by Canada) so I don't let the close-minded Yanks tell me otherwise. I want to say that not all Americans are such blind patriots. Many of the ones I have worked with or known are not the stereo-typically flag-waving, believe-everything-Fox-News-and-CNN-tells-them-to or as geographically ******ed as a 5-minute bit on Jay Leno would have you believe, but there are still many out there. Also, not every Canadian is a nice person. I can tell you from growing up there, that I have encountered many A-holes with a Maple Leaf in their passport.

I am also aware of many other countries' contributions in our history and as a traveler and citizen of this planet I try to learn and understand more whenever I get the chance, but I have been an ex-pat in 3 countries over the past 6 years and traveled to over 30 countries outside of Canada and the US and no amount of verbal bullying from the brainwashed make me feel inferior or embarrassed. In fact, there is no better feeling for me then when asked where I am from and I can confidently answer those 3 sweet syllables that proudly roll off the tongue: Ca-na-da.

Canadians and Americans pretending to be Canadians both know exactly what I mean, but true Canadians will also know that a very close second is watching an episode of Rick Mercer's Talking to Americans. :D

Good day, eh!

Uhh, does Canada even have a military anymore?
Yes, though having gung-ho Yankee hot shot pilots dropping bombs on them in Afghanistan kind of puts a crimp in recruitment on this side of the border. :gripe:

Also, Mounties went obsolete with Rocketry.:p

If my old bones could support your harsh Winter, I would live in Canada.
And glory, leadership, prominence, and the like are good to make History, but
not to make happiness.
So, stay out of Civ and keep your nice place.
Best regards,

Don't you know Vancouver is a fairly warm place? Your old bones probably won't get freeze-dried there.
