Capto Iugulum: Empires and Nations

To Paris
From Normandy

Playing the stock market is for financial advisors, the wealthy and the bourgeois, and not a fit hobby or occupation for kings. I hear you are trying to open the Seine to Parisian interests with your little trading company: Its not going to work, although you are free to keep trying.

Thank you for your kind advice.

We thank you, for the continued wisdom and grace of your leadership. Any and all Swedish ports in Madagascar (once due process prevails, and they are granted) will remain open to trade, Spanish or otherwise.

We are not unfair. Our demands remain the same, but we are willing to lessen them, should Madagascar come to the table to negotiate, rather than try to twist our arm.

Excellent. We look forward to trading with you. On another note, Would you be willing to construct and sell us a Fifth Rate Warship?

We cannot help but notice your recent expansion into Africa. Perhaps you need a way station to stock up on goods for your new colony?

I guess it turned out I don't have time for this or any NES. Sorry for wasting your time EQ.
I'm out.

We are happy to build closer ties with our Christian Breathern. We hope your nation will try to do the same with Roman Catholics.

From Venezuela

5 ep does not even come close to cover the loss of life your invasion has caused the Venezuelan people.

And your concessions to Ecuador are concessions for your treatment of the Ecuadoran people, not the assault upon the Venezuelan people. That's the trouble when you fight more than one nation you have to pay for the damages you caused to both.

To Brazil, Ecuador, and New Granada
CC: Anyone else interested

Firstly we had already offered them a fair treaty and they continued the war. Secondly if you want to propose a treaty that justly punishes New Granada as they deserve since they are the aggressors in this war. 5 ep is not acceptable as it does not even come close to paying for the death of valiant soldiers in the defense of our homeland.

We propose they hand over a good portion of the northern coast to pay for the lives and damage they have caused to Venezuela. They also have to release Ecuador, and New Granada needs to remove any claims over those lands in perpetuity. Then we will sign a 10 year peace treaty between all parties involved.

If they refuse to pay via land concessions then they need to pay for the losses they have caused Venezuela, which at cost is 38 ep for all the units lost since the beginning of this conflict. They would of course have to pay at least 40 ep since simply paying cost of damage is not enough, anything they pay above the 38 however would be given as a fund to support the families in Venezuela who have lost members due to this conflict and not go into the coffers of Venezuela proper.

I meant to mention this can be done in up to a eight year period, and I will take fourth rate Or better at their cost and deduct it from the payment.

Brazil would back up a treaty giving part of the Caribbean coast to Venezuela under the circumstances that a treaty be signed with all parties involved, including Brazil, stating that further aggression by either side would be punished by a declaration of war from Brazil on the offending party.

We offer trade with all nations in the region.

CC: The Catholic League

With the recent wars and the direction the pope has been heading, Portugal does not see the Catholic League going in the way that we had hoped. We believe it is straying from the true path that God has tried to put us on and therefore can not continue to remain in such a group, Portugal is hereby leaving the Catholic League.

We back Sweden in this affair and believe Madagascar's actions are completely unfair and unneeded. Portugal is hereby condemning Madagascar by refusing trade as well as suggesting to other nations around the world to do the same, until they open their ports to trade with Sweden once more.

The Imperator is intrigued by your offer. The Roman Empire will sell these troublesome lands to Kiev for [200 EP] to be paid over the course of five years. We would also desire that a treaty be signed that would guarantee Kiev's support of the Roman Empire in the event of war with an unholy enemy. [See map for territories to be sold]

Aside from defeat on the battlefield (and Roman soldiers are far superior to Hungarians, take note), the Imperator will sell Serbia to Hungary for [300 EP] to be paid over the course of five years. [See map for territories to be sold]

We wish to assure the Cairo government that the Roman Empire has no aggressive territorial intent towards the Caliphate with the construction of our border fortifications. They are merely a defensive precaution. We hope that peace will continue between the Roman Empire and the Mamluk Caliphate.

Let the trade flow between us then!

To: Portugal and Sweden
From: Madagascar

We haven't actually closed our ports to anyone. Sweden is simply insisting upon taking our land for their own purposes, which we will not abide. We have constantly offered to continue trade and commerce, but their insistence on something they do not deserve is making a simple process into a complex one.

We can only respect your... Immutability. In the interest of peace and good will, we offer the following compromise:

1. The Malagasy monarch and her court will guarantee safe harbor to all Swedish ships, their crews, and all goods, produce or other luggage within.

2. The Malagasy monarch and her court will guarantee the use of Malagasy harbors for trade and commerce by Swedish merchants.

3. The Malagasy monarch and her court will guarantee freedom of trade by Swedish merchants, in equality to their Spanish, Portugese, British (etc.) counterparts.

If your intentions are as pure and honest as you continuously exhort, we believe you will find this compromise perfectly acceptable.

Seeing as Madagascar and Sweden have come to terms with their problem(s) we see it fit to resume trade with Madagascar and retract our former statement towards the rest of the world, however is something else occurs we will still be backing Sweden.
