We do not understand why the number of students need be limited to 20. In the interests of uplifting Guangxi culturally and scientifically, we will institute for a special scholarship to see to it that some of Guangxi's best and brightest may get a chance to study in Britain.

As for the English language question, we are unsure how we could help.

Germany would like to note that we will be maintaining the sanctity of the Spanish Monarch's territorial claims, and any nation infringing on them, be it colonial or European, without the express consent of the Spanish Monarch will find itself in a state of war with the German nation.

This is irrelevant. You must understand (as we have made clear many times before) that the Manniskorstag operates on the exact same principle and with the exact same procedure as the Imperial Rikstag had. You additionally understand that reversing the Revolution is something we could not do if we wanted. There are elements of the Revolutionary Government and its Manniskorstag that would prefer we not negotiate entirely. We do so under duress, and out of our profound love for the Fatherland. The compromises we have already proposed are regarded universally in our nation as extravagant and extremely generous. We can do no more.

@Jason the King, the head of the Imperial Rikstag has been referred to as Chancellor since its establishment.

Turkey was not part of the negotiations with the now ended state of Chaldea. We do not recognize those claims, as the territory was Turkish long before your oppression began. We will not give up our lands.

Certainly. We have a duplicate of our message right here:

As we have for several years in the past, we implore you to accept these extremely generous terms offered by the Stockholm Government.

We say so with the hope that there will be reconciliation within the Scandinavian polity. However, if you are unwilling to change your stance on this matter, then we will move onto a next step, of recognizing the independence of multiple nations with Scandinavian heritage, and working to establish friendly and functional relations between our respective governments.

OOC: Your leader is Emperor Harald II of the house of Holstein-Gottorp, who is the cousin of the King of Vinland, Ingvar. The House of Bernadotte, which ruled OTL Sweden at this time, never arose due to Scandinavia never losing Finland and the lack of a certain Corsican Corporal in this timeline.

For a bit of Royal History, Harald I reigned until 1852, and as he had no sons was succeeded by his daughter Kristina II. Late in Kristina's reign in 1892, Vinland's domestic autonomy, which had grown throughout her reign, advanced to full independence. Preferring to establish a native monarchy (and perhaps wanting to avoid having a senile head of state), a cadet branch of the Scandinavian Royal Family was established as the Royal House of Vinland, adopting the name 'Gyllensvärd'. Thus did Ingvar I Gyllensvärd (the firstborn son of Kristina's younger sister, whose name I unfortunately do not know, or possibly hasn't been written in the NES yet) become the first Monarch to reign from Nya Stockholm.

Meanwhile, Kristina II passed away some time between 1892 and 1900, whereupon she was succeeded by Harald II, Ingvar's cousin. Harald reigned in Stockholm until the Proletarist Revolution, and which point he and his government fled to the Scandinavian Kongo. Ingvar remains a close friend of Harald, and you can read some of their written correspondence here. Both of them were born in the Scandinavian capital, and have been close friends throughout their lives. Harald may be a decade or so older, but I am not certain of his exact birthdate.

Lord of Elves, if you could provide some timelines of Scandinavian Royal History, that would be great. Otherwise, I'll ask for permission to make something up and have you check it over to make sure it contradicts nothing in the canon of updates predating 1900.

At any rate, I'm confident in writing about my own royal family. Our general timeline goes as such:

Ingvar (born 1869) married Lilian (born 1877) in 1896. Their children are Margareta (born 1896), Hendrika (born 1898) and Markus (born 1902). Markus is the Crown Prince of Vinland and heir apparent to the throne, but at age 47 Ingvar's likely still got a few decades left in him.

Actually, interesting question; what are the ruling dynasties of the various nations of Europe and America?

We know that Brazil's is 'do Brasil', because they specifically changed it away from the Portuguese dynastic title of 'de Braganca.' We can assume that that hasn't changed much.

So who is ruling Britain? Paris-Burgundy? Spain? Germany? Italy? We can't even be sure of Russia.

Thus far I'm willing to go with what you've said, as we've discussed the difficulty in establishing a historically-plausible royal house for Scandinavia. Empress Christine II's reign technically preceded Emperor Harald's, when she was crowned Queen-Empress (that being the title prior to the political integration of Norway and the Act of Union) after her father Gustavus Adolphus' death. Gustavus Adolphus' reign was troubled chiefly by the First Pomeranian Crisis, when Sweden had delegated the oversight of the Pomeranian provinces to its ally Prussia, and Prussia had betrayed Sweden and used its newly-acquired resources to foment disorder in Swedish Livonia. While the First Pomeranian Crisis was easily resolved by the complete annihilation of Prussia as an existing state, that clearly did not resolve the Pomeranian issue once and for all. Gustavus Adolphus' increasingly-frail and potentially senile state was blamed for Sweden's lack of success in the War of the Catholic League, which he and military royalists always maintained was a victory for Sweden over the Papists of Spain and Rome, but many always felt differently.

When Gustavus Adolphus died, Christine II ascended to the throne. In order to cement Sweden's relations with Poland, who had been its ally in the war against Prussia, Christine was married to the Polish crown prince. The monarchy remained static for some time thereafter, until the Norwegian Union Crisis. Emperor Harald I of Scandinavia was regarded by Norwegian nationalists as the rightful king of an independent Norway, and during the Union Crisis, Christine interceded to keep Norway in the nation and arranged to marry Harald I. Until Harald I's death, Harald and Christine ruled as cogency monarchs, "Emperor Harald I and Empress Christine II, King of Norway and Queen of Sweden".

Up to and after Harald I's death, Empress Christine's reign was marked with the transition of Sweden from an absolute monarchy with all power resting in the hands of the monarchy and a set group of landed and military aristocrats to a parliamentary monarchy, and a unitary, democratic state with the inclusion of Norway. She is revered as a figure of modernization and liberalization, and her separation from the events of recent history makes her similarly beloved by Scandinavian proletarists, who regard her as an example of a "good monarch" as opposed to Tsarist tyrants.

It occurs to me that it is entirely possible, Lord Iggy, that the sister you're talking about was the subject of a failed royal marriage between Sweden and Portugal sometime in the late-1840's/1850's. It's additionally entirely possible that she is an offshoot of the same branch that would later be made the royal family of Pomerania.

EDIT: The liberalizations and the Act of Union made, as I recall, Scandinavia the first parliamentary monarchy in Europe to the exception of Britain.

OOC: Holstein-Gottorp is just as silly as Bernadotte because there's no way that Holstein-Gottorp could possibly have had any importance in the eighteenth century in the absence of Russia.

As for Paris and Burgundy, as far as I can see the throne has descended in the direct male line of the House of Paris ever since 1830, with one other member of the family at any given time holding the throne of Piedmont at the appointment of the King of Paris and Burgundy.

Right, so the official name of the ruling family of the FBC is the House of Paris.

I'm kind of tossing up between Spain's ruling family being the Hapsburgs or a native Spanish family. See, in 1830, Spain was officially the Empire of Holy Spain, with some sort of title granted by the Pope himself (considering he took it away after Spain refused to join in the Italian revolution.) This makes me think that the Empire of Holy Spain was some kind of analogue to the Holy Roman Empire. Its possible that the kings of Spain ended up inheriting the title of Holy Roman Emperor, but it slowly faded into insignificance because the Spanish were the premier world power and the only remnant is the papal dispensation of the title 'Holy' and the title 'Emperor.'

Thus, it seems like the Emperors of Spain are Hapsburgs in this timeline. Or am I misunderstanding something.

Honestly, we can kind of choose whoever we want to be royal families. If we want the Avesnes or something to be the royal family of Germany, there isn't a lot to say we can't. History diverged very early here, its near impossible to say with any certainty what could have or would have happened between the POD and 1830. I just like trying to be thorough and I don't like the 'butterfly effect so whatever I want goes' approach. :p

The Emperor of Spain is fron the family of the Trastámara, direct descendants of the Catholic Kings through their son Juan.
