Capto Iugulum

OOC: two main fronts in OTL WWI was messy enough with old tactics meeting the new technology. We are ten years early, but almost as advanced militarily. This seems like it will be a multilateral truly global war, and about 10 times bloodier. If Constantinople is taken into account... CHARNEL HOUSE EARTH

To: The World
From: The Roman Empire

As much as it pains us to see the world going to war without Rome being able to stand by its allies, we are in no position to wage war with foreign nations. As such, as of now, The Roman Empire declares its NEUTRALITY in the war fast unfolding. We applaud our allies for doing what they believe is right for the world, but we will not be joining them, as the terms of our alliance is to declare war on other nations in defense of our allies only.

As we can anticipate that the English Channel will be a hotbed of conflict in this war, Flanders declares that all warships passing through Flemish territorial waters must notify the Flemish Navy, and that Flanders maintains the right to use military force at its discretion in defense of its sovereignty and people, at sea in addition to on land.

To: Flanders

Of course we will respect your territorial integrity. And of course we will notify you if our ships happen to pass through your territorial waters, but we don't expect it will be needed.

To: Netherlands

We thank you for your reassurances, and hope all nations will prove to be as trustworthy as yours.

We are interested in taking you up on your offer of Destroyer Improvement Level 1 in exchange for 50 EP.

Why would you waste money on anti-air measures when such a thing isn't even realized?

But nobody's actually even discovered military aircraft yet. Nobody's even thinking about it, considering no nation has started researching it yet. :p

To Austria
From Milan

This message has come to our attention from you:
The Kingdom of Austria must announce that it will be defending the Pope through any means necessary. With that, we declare war on Naples.
The wording of it makes it seem as if Naples declared war on the Pope, which is untrue. I am just pointing something out.

According to the terms of the Treaty of Peking, we hereby declare war upon the Empire of Japan

To Scandinavia, Vinland, USA
From the Confederation

As far as we can see, Scandinavia isn't actually at war with the USA. :p

OOC: Ugh I feel stupid now...I'd assumed for some reason that someone must have something by now since it had been a few years since the first flight in Britain. I just looked back and it even says on the first page "No Air Force Units can be designed at this point in the NES." Oh well, I'll just redesign it.

Having casually observed that the independence of the Holy See was being brutally attacked by a bunch of anti-clerical savages and ignorami, and that the dastardly Neapolitans were being aided in their persistance in error. Pope Leo prayed in the confessio of St Peter for the deliverance of God.

Funnily enough his prayer was answered and His Holiness was struck by a bolt of inspiration. The Pope was changed, illuminated, made strangely antipodean in his manners.

He emerged from the confessio and proclaimed unto the world

-

Urbi et Orbi

Brothers and sisters in Christ. As you may well know the Holy See has previously declared war on the Neapolitans in an act of medicinal correction for that nations grievous errors, in the hope that their people may be freed from the tyranny of its secular rule and brought into the illuminating light of Truth, which is found only within the divine and Catholic faith and also in the hope that our fellow inhabitants of the Italian peninsula may be as one nation under the Church, ruled by right governance by the principles of subsidiarity and justice.

However Naples in an act of error has chainganged the honest state of Milan into this war, and perniciously sought aid from the Empire of Brazil. To this end the successor of Peter can respond only as is the will of Christ.

We thus excommunicate the leaders of Naples and Brazil, and proclaim that for all the faithful they shall not be obliged to obey their decrees, or their laws. Indeed should Brazil not reconcile itself to the Holy See, and should Naples not cast off the yoke of its apostate government, divine favour shall be his to any who overthrow these regimes who have violated the sanctity of Holy Mother Church and brings right governance back to the peoples of Brazil and Naples

To Milan, we understand the defence treaty which bound you to Naples, and point out that it is now fulfilled. We offer peace to you should you be willing to take it in the understanding that Milan out of no malice sought harm to Holy Church. But should you persist in this egregious and indeed infernal attack on the liberty of the Holy See, it shall be clear that you are in league with Satan and his apostate host, and truly held in thrall to the malicious powers of hell beyond all hope of recompense. Should you fail to accept peace, the government of Milan shall be anathematised and it shall be so that all right thinking men should be morally obliged to cast this infernal regime out by holy war in pursuit of the justice of the Lord.

His Holiness the Pope

I join the game as the Papal States ;)

Also I request my stats if they are available, as a recent entrant It would be good to be able to get up to date on everything before I go ordering anything.
