Capto Iugulum

To King Giovanni II

-

A time of consideration will be permitted by the Holy See only if Milan accedes to a cease fire during the consideration period. Failure to refrain from hostilities against us will be seen as reflective of lack of right intent and a sign that the Papal States should take all possible measures to ensure the restoration of right government in Milan.

~ Pope Leo XIV

Gratias on the stats.

There are two at the moment (aggressor on left)
Pope vs. Brazil, Naples and Milan (Milan (me) and Pope have a cease-fire agreement right now)
Austria vs. Naples

FROM GENOA
to the Papal States:
In support for the cause of the statuesque we will join your war against those who encourage the nationalist in order to grow in power for themselves. And hereby

to Naples (and Milan if they are at war with Papal States:
We declare war on your.

to Milan:
No longer than an year ago you have threatened to war with us if we were not to close nationalistic newspaper in our country, and now you support them? That is just so unstable from you.

to Sardinia and Tuscany:
We declare support for Tuscany and demand, together with the Confederation, that Corsica will pull out.

To Genoa
From Milan

At the moment, we are not at war with the Papal States, there is a cease-fire. And we were supporting Naples because of diplomatic agreements, not their beliefs. However, we are looking over our reports, and find the odds not in our favor.

(OOC: let me read this whole thread to find what you are talking about. this is why I hate joining after a game starts...)

OOC: Erez, you know that it's Sardinia that invaded Tuscany, not Corsica?

Sardinian troops were sent to Tuscany last year to bolster the forces of the monarchy and prevent a complete collapse of order, which would invariably lead to some form of nationalist government. However, we see that the affairs in Tuscany have been straightened out and our presence is no longer needed. Therefore, Sardinian troops will be withdrawing this year.

As for you demand for reparations, we refuse. Under normal circumstances we ourselves would demand reparations, but the current situation in Italy means we have little time for further hostility with your nation. Yet the fact that Tuscan troops fired upon Sardinian soldiers, sent out of goodwill to aid in restoring stability, before attempting to use diplomacy to diffuse the situation, clearly shows that it is Tuscany that is in the wrong, not Sardinia.

Your blatant attempts to bring about Italian unification is an affront to the freedom of Sardinia and every other Italian state. As such, we declare war against Naples.

To: Everyone
From: Peru

Peru was not behaving rationally when we declared war on Brazil. Thus, we rescind our declaration of war and declare war on Spain etc.

ooc: Next time I'll at least skim my nation's history. /derp

To: Genoa
From: Naples

It is very disappointing to hear that you declare war on us when the press that started this was originated within your very own nation. However, as you have I hope this war to be short and without very much Italian bloodshed.

To: Italy
From: Naples

All the nations that have decided to join with Austria and the Pope, we hope you realize you're supporting those who wish to see Italy held from it's true power and potential. we're not just talking about a unified Italy, we're talking about a free Italy. An Italy that isn't ruled in fear because we are split, but one that, even if it's not unified, stands by it's neighbors and repels all threats. One that stands together and could swing the power of the world in it's favor. Yet things are how they are apparently.

To: All Italians
From: Naples

Now is the time, we need you to rise in the name of a free Italy! Don't allow the Pope to rule over you all with a false fear of God! Don't allow a non Italian nation to rule over your Italian brothers in Venice, strike those tyrants as well! You must rise against your rulers that would hold you down, that are ruled by fear and wont act out against the oppressive foreigners! We need to put in leaders that will lead your nations with strength, not fear; that will allow you to speak your mind, not stay in the dark silently; that want to see a strong Italy, not one that can be walked over by outsiders! Now is the time fellow Italians, show that we are NOT afraid of those that seek to strike fear into our hearts and hold us down!

At least the world knows Peru sticks by its commitments.

to Naples
from Genoa:
It is one thing to support free speech, its a whole other thing to support a unified nationalistic Italy. The only thing unification would bring is blood. Blood of Italians.

to people's of Italy:
Deny the Nationalist ways! They have brought us nothing but deaths! Italy is fine! It never needed to be united. We are strong in kingdoms, and we can ally. But a nationalistic unification would bring nothing more than the fury of the world. Italy is merely a geographical expression.

To: Genoa
From: Naples

You do realize the reason this whole thing started was because we allowed the press to open in our nation, so then the Pope declared war upon us and accused us of wanting unification. We have said we want a free Italy, a strong Italy, we have said a unified Italy would be strong but that wasn't the reason we wanted to go to war. Now with all Italy against us because of the Pope not wanting free speech in Naples with the press we were said to have wanted to unify Italy, and with the kingdoms of Italy against us we will use what options we have to defend ourselves. Yes a unified Italy would be stronger then just Kingdoms and Naples would like to see Italy unified and if the rest of the kingdoms of Italy don't want that, we will go to the people and see if they want freedoms and a united Italy, or to be separated and oppressed forever.
