Just saw confirmation on NASA TV that Cassini has successfully completed
its orbital insertion burn and is now in Saturn orbit. [party] :bounce: [dance]

Here's to international cooperation, and a successful mission.

This is great news!

Bout time too. Can't wait till Huygens gets to Titan.........to bad that's not till much later

omg NASA didnt screw something up this time ITS A MIRALCLE

time to really make fun of NASA

when they launched the second mars lander the person who made it set up the program to measur in metric system while the person setting up the program to send orders and signals from here on earth set that up to measure standard measurements this is why the thing went slamming into the martian surface WOW and these ppl are suppose to be ROCKET SCIENTISTS got to an idiot to be a rocket scientist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All it shows is that Murphy's Law is in no way restricted to the atmosphere or gravity well of Earth.

NASA must have left the sums to the boys at ESA this time ;)
Cassini's already provided me with a new desktop picture - here's hoping for some more

And Cassini's mission will last 4 years. We'll be getting new info on Saturn into 2008!

Any chance that Hygens could contaminate Titan with earth bacteria? I suppose it's too cold and the type of bacteria on Hyugens wouldn't be methanogens, but did they take any precautions?

Behold, the power of Google:

Apparently the short answer is "Ummm, nope."

I bet they never make that mistake again.

I wish the U.S. would quit our stupid standard system and adopt the metric system like everybody else. People would get used to it in under ten years.

However, I'm willing to bet that if such a bill were introduced in Congress it would be denounced by some Congressmen/women as "unpatriotic".

Amazing how some European members can turn virtually anything into an anti-American thread.

Nah, it's not that they screw things up, lots and lots of space agencies do that. The only reason NASA screws up more deep space missions than anyone else is because they're pretty much the only ones to do deep space missions!

No, it's not a miracle if NASA stuff works. It's a miracle if iNASA stuff doesn't cost billions to make it work!

But, don't worry about the huge costs, in a few years Burt Rutan will have it all figured out. ;)

Doesn't Britain use our measurement system as well? Or did they switch over?
Yeah, it's just us Americans now. I make it a habit not to use it though. I try to use things in terms of metric.

Eventually, America will lead those provincial, beknighted countries of the rest of the world back to the glory of Standard measurement! :goodjob:

WtG Cassini and NASA!!

Upon reflection, I withdraw all enthusiasm from that sentence above. Carping over inconsequentials is beneath me. NASA failed us when they stopped going to the moon, and until regular flights resume, and a permanent presence is established, they shall remain in my strongest disfavour.

I don't see why people make fun of NASA's failures, cause your just one step away from laughing at the Challenger and the Columbia.

Ya know as for measuments I can't help but to turn KPH into MPH and to turn my height and weight into pounds and feet. I still do distances in kms though

Well done NASA! I really appreciate the american spacefaring efforts. That's a real contribution for the good of mankind and about the only thing an US-American can be proud of.
Now I wish they would just spend a little less on war and military and a little more on crewed spaceflight. Send a man to Mars and I regain my belief that the USA is a good country.

Perhaps what happened to the Challenger and the Columbia happened because they start with a "C"..
Bring Cassini home before it blows up! :mischief:

I was born into meters and KG, so that never bothered me.
When I see inches or feet, I can translate quite easily, but when I see pounds - that's when I blow up!

i hate to burst ur bubble but i am an american but i make fun of america alot especially NASA and bushey-the president

by the way i have a very fine line between makeing fun of them wasteing money and screwing up measurements and unmanned junk blowin up but if u think any sane person in there right mind would EVER make fun of people dieing u have problems
