Cats for me. I like dogs too, I just happened to grow up with cats. I know a lot of people think cats are too aloof or distant, so I guess I'm just not so needy that I need an animal to make me feel validated. ;)

I used to be a dog person. But then I was given a kitten...

The rest is history. Right now my current cats are snoozing on my bed. At some point the younger of the two will get up and crawl into my lap and up on my shoulder. To properly balance will require me to hold her with my left hand/arm, thus leaving me one hand for typing.

I bet you didn't know that I do a lot of my CFC posts one-handed. :crazyeye:

Similar here. But my cat doesn't like being on laps, carried, or on shoulders unless we are moving. The cat does like being on the upper shelf of my computer desk, though, so that he can get attention and playtime while I'm on here.

Another advantage with cats: You know all those hard to get to nooks and crannies that you have a hard time dusting? Well worry about them no more, because the kitty can take care of that. (Okay, maybe that isn't an advantage...)

If I wanted a moving piece of furniture I would have bought a Roomba.

Sure, why not?

Cat. You can't control the cat.

I guess I'm comfortable enough with myself that I can cope with the emotional engagement one gets from a dog.
Adults have grown up enough to deal with responsive and pleasant creatures. Only children love soft toys that don't actually engage with them.

How ridiculous. Cats engage emotionally with their owner, it's just more subtle. I don't need a creature slobbering all over me to feel loved. A gentle rubbing on my leg & looking up at me with squinty little eyes is enough for me.

I just want to say even though I prefer most dogs over cats, I hate attack dogs. And don't tell me it's the way the dogs are raised. Pit bulls are menace to society. Read this article if you don't believe me.

Pit bulls are one of the best breeds (along with labs).

May as well point to an article where a person was mauled by a pack of Negros & use it as an excuse to be racist.

Dachsunds are frequently insane. I had a coworker whose wife had a dachsund. If they forgot to close the bedroom door before leaving the house, the dachsund would eat the pillows.

Wow, touched a nerve there, did I? Try being an adult and relax a little bit, it was a joke. ;)

cat + nooks and crannies = cat fur in nooks and crannies

It's the way the dogs are raised. Your article doesn't even address that.

I trained my cat to stay off anything higher up than the floor, so it doesn't bother me when I'm on the computer.

Bad children, get the spoon!

It is totally u to the owner on how they are raised up. Even the most gentle breed can become vicious if they are not treated properly.

The second sentence is absolutely correct. Aside from that correction, however, I agree with Disgustipated. A mistreated gentle breed is going to be a menace. However, Pit Bulls are a menace even if they're treated well. I know from another person's sad experience (wouldn't own a Pit Bull if I was paid). Either environment or inborn traits can make a dog dangerous.

I just like voting in polls. It's an individual preference like Cherry vs. Apple pie. Prefering either doesn't make one wrong, right, more or less mature or secure. I own one of each. I live a little out of the city, so cats for mice and a larger dog for other animals. As a pet, either can be best.
