Civ World Registration

I'm confused, will this be pay to play (in which case I will likely not be using it) or will it be paid for by selling commercial space or something?

If it is like any other Facebook game it will be free to play, but you can spend cash to get extra items to help you out. And, oddly enough, it tends to really help you progress to spend cash on things. Imagine that! People almost universally claim that they don't spend money on the Facebook games...yet clearly many are, because the profit margins are enormous.

Civ World should be free to play, no idea if they are going to add any possible payments to it or not, and we probably won't know for quite some time until closer to or after release of the final product.

I think some facebook games make you pay for extra features. I know many of the Mafia Wars type games do this.

This'll be my first FB game. Not my first Alpha-testing, though. I look forward to following your lead, greshick.

All you haters: start your own FB hate thread. With your whiney-powers, I'll bet it's the biggest thread in history.

Facebook is simply a very fancy blog with extensive business-networking capabilities. It's ingenious. If any of you had ever had to socialize with another person to get a better job (or just plain get a job), then you know it can be extremely powerful. If any of you had more than 9 RL friends who were in any way better than you, you'd know how important networking and teamwork is to getting ahead in this world.

Just because you have no idea how to use it properly is no reason to diss on it.

Well, it's all nice and dandy, with Civilization Revolution, Civilization V, and now Civilization World, but I would prefer it if Firaxis or whoever is responsible would actually make a new Civilization game. It's been 4 (?) years since the last one... Although I have to admit that Civilization V had some potention. Had, indeed.

It'll be good if you're wiling to drown yourself in DLC.

no, right now I'm too busy with school

signed to OPs group, it looks like quite a few have already. do you think we're gonna get another wave of new signups and converts to the series? i wonder what the new user -> civ 5 buyer rate is.

I have Civ 5. Its pretty good. Nothing amazing, but a couple expansions will yield a brilliant game. I still prefer my civ 3 and 4, but I will say that the new combat system is wonderful.

Fair nuff. I've stalked these forums since BtS so I know what we're in for. Had the same thing watching, say Victoria 2, or even MW2 in that the game itself has very clever ideas and the 'engine' behind it is fine, but the tweakable stuff is just plain wrong (ICS, tech tree beelines etc). Loved the gameplay but so dissappointed with the trimmings so far.

I think you are confusing Facebook with Linkedin. The latter is specifically for professional/buisness/etc connections, unlike Facebook which, while it can be used for that, is generally not and tries to do many other things like mass advertising (it also is a constant target of scams (indeed the founder of Zynga (Farmville, etc) admitted to using scams to get money when he started Zynga) and there are tonnes of applications, etc that are really just data mining user's information).

And you could really use a less-condescending attitude, there is no need to fling around baseless accusations and insults.

darn it i ddn't get the email and they said they allready chosed :(
what about you guys?

No e-mail for me either. Where does it say they already chose, though?

CDZ was ignored, in a blatant display of their disregard for good-tasting spam :shake:

Then who did get in?
