Civ3 1.29 beta 2

Tertium datur: user error. ;)

Babylon will build a bank in 2 turns. This suggests, that you already have accumulated quite some shields. If you got any of these shields from
  1. cutting forrest
  2. hurrying some cheap unit
  3. disbanding a unit
[/list=1] the city cannot build any wonder or palace.

DOPE! You learn something new every day. I have been disbanding pikeman after building musketman. I didn't think the game determined how past shields were aquired.
SORRY ABOUT THE POST, PLEASE DISREGARD MY LAST POST.

Strange thing to do!

Why not upgrade the pikes to muskets and build something else? It's usually more cost effective to upgrade an old unit than to build a new one from scratch. That's why the experts all disconnect resources to build older units and then reconnect to upgrade them. You don't get very good value if you disband units.

Hot keys use qwerty layout even though OS is set as Dvorak. I sort of remember this problem during 1.21g beta and final version of that patch fixed this problem.

Any plans to fix this or do I have to live with it?

I feel stupid, but for OSX, but which file do you open to use the 1.29f beta? I've opened the two new files, but I still can't open the Demogame file. Help!!??

Do you mean you want to open an existing scenario, or a previous game file? If you are trying to load a Democracy Game, I haven't tried before, but I just downloaded one I found called Turn 9, for a Romans game about 1365 AD. I put the downloaded game file in the Saves folder in my standard Civ3 1.29 game folder and used Load Game to start it up. It opened and ran OK.

Not quite. As it happens, you've got an LCD with a maximum resolution of 1440x900. You can't support a resolution greater than that, but you can use any that are less, even if they're the wrong aspect ratio. In other words, the vertical resolution of 1024 is greater than 900, so you need to pick one that fits in both directions. I'll add all those iMac flatscreen resolutions back into the app for the next build so this won't be a problem in the future.

Hello!
This is my first post. :D
Brad, I'd just like to say thank you for the time you have put into working on the Mac patches. :goodjob:

Yes those oddball resolutions would be greatly appreciated for us Powerbook users.

Is it just me or did the beta patch disable the CD check? Would it count as a bug or new feature?

I dont mean to be pushy or ungreatful (cuz Im not...Im VERY greatful you did this much), but I was just curious if you were still working on the 1.29 patch.

I also, not wishing to be pushy, but desiring to let Brad know that his hard work will be appreciated by a large number of individuals, would like to see a build of the 1.29 beta which supports odd-shaped resolutions.

My girlfriend just got a new 17" iMac you see, and unpatched-Civ looks so beautiful on all that screen space, but we need to use the patched version to play GOTM... and I do not believe it is proper to cramp the glorious Korean empire into my old screen.

Let's see, the only real issue left is this screen resolution thing, right? If so, then yeah, I should be able to bang out a final version of the patch within the next 2 weeks.

Your girlfriend isn't the only one with a beautful 17 inch iMac...I have the same thing:D.

So 2 weeks eh? Wow, awsome. Thank you so much! We all owe you man!

Brad, you're the best! I recently got a 17" PB and it'll be sooooooo nice to have a full-screen civ3! (It's the same resolution as the 17" iMacs, right? 1440 x 900 ?)

I installed the beta2 patch for the first time last night and had a Unexpected quit crash within the first few turns. Sorry but I don't have any saved games. I haven't tried to run it again. This is a completely unmodded game, standard map, pretty much all the default settings. I can't remember the last time I had a crash with 1.21, maybe never (the previous crash log entry was from November).

I do run the game with no CD, but with a mounted disk image named "Civilization III"

The crash log follows.

A question, the answer to which I think I'm not going to like: so yeah, it's good to be caught up with the pc-folk, in terms of versions, and wake all is nice and fortify all is nice too. All very nice. But what about move all?? (Or, move all units of the same type, whatever.) This was perhaps the most important feature improvement in the pc v1.29. It made industrial-age wars okay to sit through. Please tell me this feature is there, there's a keystroke-combination I'm ignorant of. 'Cause if not I'd say we don't have real version parity.

Don't get me wrong: I don't mean to sound ungrateful, even though I do. It's great that these new verrsions have been made, and I appreciate that they've been done for free. I'm just asking if the feature is secretly there and, if it's not, requesting it be added in a future revision.

Forget PTW, forget Conquests. I just want group move!

If it's supposed to be in Mac 1.29 but isn't, then that's clearly a mistake. If someone can confirm the omission (and let me know what you'd normally do to activate it) then I'll fix it.

Command-J works fine here to move all the units in a stack of one type.

Warning: they all remember where you asked them to move to, even if they have different numbers of move points left on this turn. They'll go as far as they can this time and then make or complete the move automatically in the next turn(s). This can split your stack.

I don't think there are many PC shortcuts missing from the Mac version, though I seem to recall that one of the PC versions has a shortcut for moving a whole stack of multiple unit types, but I haven't found that on the Mac. Command is the clover-leaf key, and replaces the Control key for several of the shortcuts on the Mac.

So Brad with the new patch that you have coming (final) will Civ3 operate in full screen on my 20" cinema screen from Apple (1680X1050) I think?
