[NFP] Civilization VI: Possible New Civilizations Thread

Maybe, but aside from their profitable trade with the Dutch the Iroquois had a tendency to take things rather than ask for them. :mischief: I have a hard time seeing them as a trade-centric civ. More like a tall agricultural/industrial civ with a heaping helping of raiding (not really a Domination civ, though--the Iroquois were more about raiding and pillaging than conquest).
Would you rather me say the Sioux/Lakota with their acquirement of horses and gunpowder weapons? :p

Here is a distribution of current units in the game, plus some speculation in colour.

Numbers in the center include ALL units. UNIQUE rows include only unique count. Hulche and Llanero have been noted but not added to the count.

Some concepts:

NA:
Musketman Replacement Unique Unit. Costs no Niter but may only be acquired with Gold. Weaker and cheaper than the Musketman. Killing another Post-Renaissance Land Unit grants a free Unique Unit of this type. (Zombie modifier from Red Death)

Vietnam:
Recon Units have Stealth in Forest/Jungle/Marsh Terrain
OR
Unique Unit has Stealth in such terrain. May plant traps. Replaces Ranger.

Mong Dong Unique Unit may plant traps in Coastal Tiles. Triggered only by enemy units at war.

Assyria:
Unique Light Cavalry unit. Unlocks with Animal Husbandry.

Unique Siege Unit
OR
Leader/Civ: Siege Unit related bonus.

Portugal
Naval Ranged Unique Unit one Era earlier. Doesn't require Niter.
OR
Renaissance Naval Melee Unique Unit (No uniques of that type yet). May build Feitoria (Coastal Fort).

Byzantine Empire:
Classical/Medieval Naval Melee with Range: 1.

Leader: May purchase the Unique Unit of Civilisations you have an Alliance with, with Gold. Usual restraints apply (unlocked required Tech/Civic, enough Strategic Resources, etc)

NA:
Musketman Replacement Unique Unit. Costs no Niter but may only be acquired with Gold. Weaker and cheaper than the Musketman. Killing another Post-Renaissance Land Unit grants a free Unique Unit of this type. (Zombie modifier from Red Death)
By NA I assume you mean North America? This sounds like it could be a good Iroquois UU.

Considering we only have one siege unit replacement which isn't in the ancient era, or a catapult replacement, I think this would be the best bet maybe over another cavalry unit.

Also I see you have Ethiopia having an Industrial Era UU, supposedly the Mehal Sefari. I'd personally like it to be a Classical Era Shotelai, but I could also see the Mehal Sefari becoming a leader UU if Menelik II is the leader.

Edit: Also don't we technically have a medieval naval ranged and naval raider with the Jong and Barbary Corsair? They are just earlier replacements of the frigate and privateer, unless you count that as a unique Renaissance unit replacement.

It's trickier with units in the civics tree, but you're right.

yeah the mehal sefari is definitely a leader uu if we get menelik

This sounds perfect for Byzantium! I am sure the name "Varangian Guard" would be perfect for this ability; would be really cool to play as too with different Civs in the game for different units to use every time!

And now a game with 12 different Byzantine Empires, with no other empires to buy UU from :goodjob:

How about no? :p
I've changed my mind.
I think that would be a great leader ability for Kublai Khan: Silk Road.

It would synergize well with Mongolia's Ortoo and even China's Dynastic Cycle.

For my part, I tend to subject all these suggestions to what I think of as the "Russian battleship" test. Take the following sentence:

"Russian battleships were spotted sailing southwards."

That seems a perfectly reasonable sentence. You see that, and it doesn't give you pause. Now substitute any other national adjective in place of "Russian". "Portuguese battleships were spotted sailing southwards." Perfectly OK, nothing odd about that. "Byzantine battleships were spotted sailing southwards." That's a bit more tricky. But I can credit that if Byzantium hadn't been knocked over by the Turks in 1453, Byzantine battleships would certainly have been a thing. "Iroquois battleships were spotted sailing southwards." Now that does bring me up short, and the same with Cree battleships, to be honest. "Inuit battleships were spotted sailing southwards?" - no, no no!

To be fair at least the Inuits did built more boats than other civilizations in the game. :mischief:
But I still agree with the statement.

I don't follow. What's that test supposed to achieve?

The criteria of what should possibly be a civilization in the game is what I understood it to be.
