I’ve never heard about this. Can you explain? For all the talk of a modern or a southern African civ, I'm surprised that there hasn't been any mention at all of Botswana and Seretse Khama. Turning of the world's poorest countries into one of if not the most prosperous country in Africa with the continent's oldest continuous democracy is quite a herculean achievement!
Edit: Looked into him, it’s pretty cool. He seems to have been the Southern African equivalent of Thomas Sankara in terms of what he achieved (albeit a proponent of a very different political and economic system). I’d personally prefer to see the Shona in that region but I’d take Botswana led by Khama
I think we have enough more interesting possible Civs to explore in Africa or even South America than another modern nation like Argentina or South Africa. This is Civilization, not Realpoiltics![]()
Civilization persists to the modern day, and both civs in question are undoubtedly extremely influential in the modern day (and have been since their independences). South Africa was a nuclear power (they disassembled their nukes but nonetheless, that speaks to their magnitude on the world stage). Argentina is a regional powerhouse. There’s a number of civ’s I’d like to see first, sure, but let’s not act like recent history doesn’t also develop civilizations.
